At the moment the explosive projectile pierced her skull, the Ascalon at Zhang Ge's waist trembled violently.
As if summoned by some force, he grasped the hilt of the longsword without hesitation and drew it from its scabbard.
On the originally plain blade, a milky-white inscription flickered:
"Humanity eradicates savagery, the world protects the weak, the heart is inherently pure."
Ascalon guided Zhang Ge's arm, directing the sword's tip upward. The long-decayed Titan warlord loomed before him, and in comparison, Zhang Ge appeared like Don Quixote charging at windmills.
Then, from the girl's corpse, a translucent, shadowy ribbon slowly detached from the still-bleeding flesh, winding its way toward Ascalon and coiling around the blade.
In an instant, the sword, which had been firmly gripped by Zhang Ge, flew out on its own. Its speed was so great that even Amilia couldn't catch a glimpse of its afterimage. Almost simultaneously with its release, it pierced the Titan's neck.
Something was awakened.
At first, it was the sound of an engine, short and thunderous, like a heartbeat.
Then, on the titan's head, a brilliant blue light lit up from left to right, accompanied by a pleasant, faint buzzing, filling the electronic eyes that had been dim for countless years.
But everything suddenly fell silent again, as if what had just happened was merely an illusion.
Until a deep, distant toll of a bell resounded.
The first toll of the bell: push the pistons and pumps.
From the scabbard of Ascalon, blood suddenly gushed out wildly, surging toward the broken body of the Warlord Titan, filling its numerous damages and wounds. The titan's massive head lowered with the sound of mechanical movement, looking at Zhang Ge.
The second toll of the bell: the followers of the Dawn Cult, who were rushing toward the bottom, all dropped their weapons and began to kneel before their awakening "deity."
The second toll of the bell: press the button, ignite the engine, light the turbine, and infuse life.
The blasphemous symbols were cleansed, the damaged wounds were repaired, and the once battered torso showed no trace of injury.
The ground trembled as the divine machine's body began to rise. The thick layer of soil offered no resistance, and large sections of the ground caved inward, filling the voids left by the titan's legs as they gradually withdrew.
Amid the tremors that made it hard to stand, the titan's first leg stepped onto the ground, followed by the second. Countless clumps of soil were shaken loose by its movements.
Its massive body, blocking the beams of searchlights, cast a colossal shadow on the ground.
The third toll of the bell: the volcano cannon mounted on the Warlord Titan's right arm swung to point diagonally downward. Ascalon, now returned to its simple form, fell at that moment, re-sheathed in midair, and landed precisely in Zhang Ge's hand.
The third toll of the bell: sing in unison, praise the Machine God.
Intense heat radiated from above. Though Zhang Ge seemed unaffected, the gray robes on the surrounding corpses began to spontaneously ignite at this temperature. Amilia frowned slightly, as if realizing something, closed her eyes, and covered her ears.
The next moment, a bright, sun-like light erupted from the mouth of the volcano cannon, bright enough to blind any ordinary person who dared to look directly at it.
A beam of light surged from the cannon's mouth, tracing an upward arc from its point of impact. Anything that came into contact with this beam—buildings, soil, metal, or anything else—was instantly vaporized into free microscopic particles. Yet, even after passing through the deep pit, the light showed no signs of stopping.
It tore through the thick clouds in the sky, and through the straight, ripped opening, the golden sunlight that had been cut off from this place for countless years poured down.
Above the pit, a massive slope formed along the path of the volcano cannon's beam. Countless streams of molten, scorching lava flowed downward, while some areas crystallized under the intense heat, forming reflective surfaces that shimmered with the sun's brilliance.
In a sense, the pontiff had not lied—the travelers had indeed witnessed the dawn.
After completing this, the titan slowly knelt on one knee and extended the un-fired Fury Plasma Annihilator, resting it diagonally on the ground.
For some reason, Zhang Ge even sensed a hint of gentleness in this motion.
He stepped forward, climbed onto the side of the weapon, and seated himself atop the plasma cannon. Amilia followed closely behind, leaping gracefully onto it.
As Zhang Ge settled in, a familiar voice entered his mind—it was the voice of the girl from before:
"I think... I'm still alive? Though this body feels strange, thank you!"
As the voice spoke, the titan rose again and began to ascend the slope toward the top of the pit.
As for Zhang Ge, though he had anticipated it, he was momentarily struck silent by the contrast between the girl's sweet voice and the titan's majestic form.
