Invincible by Picking Attributes

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Use of Merit Points!

"One merit point can be exchanged for five free attribute points."

"Ten merit points can be exchanged for a skill point that can enhance any skill."

Hearing this notification and looking around at the wounded soldiers in the camp, Zhao Feng couldn't help but smile inwardly.

"Rescuing people brings unexpected rewards merit points. This is excellent."

After finishing suturing and applying medicine, Chen Fuzi immediately stepped forward to examine the results.

With the wound sutured, the bleeding had almost completely stopped. Combined with the effect of the hemostatic powder, the outcome was even better than expected.

"This suturing technique is miraculous! Did it stop the bleeding just like that? Needles and thread can be used this way?" Chen Fuzi exclaimed in astonishment, staring at Zhao Feng.

"Suturing can naturally stop bleeding, though if the internal organs are severely damaged, it's still a matter of fate," Zhao Feng replied.

"Never mind whether your method of sterilizing blades with fireworks or not just this suturing technique alone is incredibly valuable. My teacher is a renowned master of medicine, celebrated throughout Qin, yet even he doesn't have such methods."

"Young man, are you just a soldier?"

"Did your mother study under a hidden master of medicine?" Chen Fuzi asked in amazement.

"My mother may have had a teacher, but I doubt she qualifies as a great doctor," Zhao Feng replied modestly.

"I just happened to pick up a few things."

In truth, suturing is not overly complex once basic medical skills are understood. Given the dire conditions of this era, precision wasn't the priority saving lives was.

"From what I can tell, this suturing technique alone could establish you as a great doctor," Chen Fuzi said with deep admiration.

"Chen Military Physician, let's not waste time," Zhao Feng interjected.

"Follow me, and I'll teach you this suturing technique as well as the specifics of sterilizing with fire."

Hearing the continuous cries of agony echoing through the camp, Zhao Feng couldn't bear to wait any longer.

"You're willing to teach me this suturing technique?"

"This is an advanced method for stopping bleeding," Chen Fuzi said, astonished.

In this era, there were strict boundaries between masters and disciples. Passing down techniques outside of one's lineage was unheard of.

"I have no intention of hoarding this suturing technique. If it can save countless comrades, it's worth sharing," Zhao Feng said with a smile as he turned to another seriously wounded soldier.

Hearing Zhao Feng's words, a trace of respect flashed across Chen Fuzi's face.

"A secret technique like this is a lifesaving method for the army, and yet he shares it so freely," Chen Fuzi thought to himself, moved by Zhao Feng's selflessness.

"This must be what my teacher meant by a healer's compassion.'"

Without wasting any more time, Chen Fuzi followed Zhao Feng closely. Despite being the most skilled physician in the Bluefield Camp, he now stood beside Zhao Feng like a student handing him blades, medicines, and bandages as needed.

"Chen Military Physician, the blade must be heated until it glows red, then cooled with strong liquor to sterilize it thoroughly. In addition to being used as an anesthetic, liquor can also be poured directly over wounds to disinfect them..."

"As for suturing, you simply sew the flesh together in a patterned manner..."

As Zhao Feng treated the wounded, he explained everything in detail to Chen Fuzi, who listened intently.

This scene did not go unnoticed by the other military physicians in the camp, who watched in shock.

"Isn't that injured soldier treating other wounded soldiers? Why does it seem like the teacher is taking lessons from him?"

"Indeed."

"It looks like the teacher is learning from that soldier."

"That's impossible. Our teacher's skills come from the greatest physician in Qin. A mere soldier teaching him medicine?"

The sight was so bizarre that many were left speechless. However, remembering Chen Fuzi's strictness, none dared voice their doubts aloud, though curiosity burned within them.

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the medical camp, a fair-faced warrior clad in military attire, with hair tied up neatly, strode in, flanked by a few personal guards.

"Who is in charge of this camp?" Wang Yan called out.

A military officer quickly approached, bowing deeply.

"Subordinate greets the Commander."

"What's the situation in the medical camp?" Wang Yan inquired.

"Reporting to the Commander: Military Physician Chen is personally leading fifty physicians in treating the wounded. Thanks to him, many soldiers have been brought back from the brink of death," the officer replied respectfully.

"Good. With Military Physician Chen here, that's reassuring," Wang Yan nodded.

After glancing around, she asked, "Do you know of a soldier named Zhao Feng?"

"Yes, Commander," the officer replied immediately, though his expression turned somewhat peculiar.

"Where is he?" Wang Yan asked.

"He's... teaching Military Physician Chen medicine," the officer replied awkwardly, pointing toward the deeper sections of the camp where the gravely injured were being treated.

Wang Yan turned to look and saw a man, clearly just recently treated himself his upper body still wrapped in bandages, his face stained with dried blood bent over treating another wounded soldier.

To her astonishment, Chen Fuzi, the best physician in the Bluefield Camp, was standing at the man's side like an assistant, handing him tools and medicines.

"What... is going on?" Wang Yan asked, utterly stunned.

"Commander, it's hard to believe, but Zhao Feng has mastered an extraordinary medical technique that even Military Physician Chen deeply admires. Right now, he's teaching it to Chen Fuzi," the officer explained with a smile.

"He's proficient in medicine too? Enough to teach Chen Fuzi?" Wang Yan was utterly floored.

Zhao Feng, oblivious to the attention he was drawing, continued treating the wounded soldiers with focus and determination.

"Successfully treated one person. Gained 1 merit point," the system's notification chimed.

Hearing it, Zhao Feng felt reassured.

The notification signified that the patient's life had been saved. If it didn't appear, it meant the injuries were too severe for his efforts to make a difference.

So far, Zhao Feng has successfully treated ten people, though there were cases where his attempts failed.

"According to Zhao Feng, tetanus doesn't come from the wound itself but from external contamination rust or filth entering the flesh. Heating the blade with fire burns away these impurities, and pouring liquor on the wound also eliminates them," Chen Fuzi said thoughtfully.

"Exactly. By sterilizing and suturing, the survival chances of the wounded can increase by at least 30 to 40 percent," Zhao Feng replied with a smile.

"Listening to your medical insights has been enlightening, Brother Zhao," Chen Fuzi said with genuine admiration.

"You're too kind, Military Physician Chen. What I've shared is merely a theory it's up to you and your team to put it into practice."

"Now, why don't you give suturing a try? I'll handle the cutting, and you can do the stitching," Zhao Feng suggested.

"Very well," Chen Fuzi laughed.

"Today, let us join forces to save lives."
