Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Such Talent, How Could He Be a Military Doctor?

"You're right."

"Such talent cannot remain confined to the logistics corps."

"I will personally petition the King to acknowledge his military merits and request his transfer to the main army as an officer, not as part of the logistics corps," Wang Jian said decisively.

The logistics corps and the main army might share a similar structure, but their status and prestige were worlds apart.

The logistics corps handled menial tasks like managing supplies and transporting the fallen. Though technically part of the military, they were more akin to conscripted laborers with military registration.

By contrast, officers in the main army held real power and authority. For someone like Zhao Feng, who had displayed such extraordinary valor, remaining in the logistics corps would limit his potential. A transfer to the main army would ensure his abilities were fully recognized and utilized.

"Such a remarkable individual I'm truly curious to meet him," Wang Ben remarked with a smile.

At that moment, a voice came from outside the tent.

"Report!"

"Military doctor Chen has sent an urgent message!"

The commander of Wang Jian's personal guards entered quickly, holding a bamboo scroll in his hands.

"Military doctor Chen is the direct disciple of Grand Physician Xia and the chief physician of our Lan Tian camp. For him to send an urgent message, it must be significant," Wang Ben commented.

"Indeed," Wang Jian agreed, taking the scroll from the guard.

As he read, his expression grew increasingly peculiar.

"Father, what's the matter?"

"Did something happen in the medical camp?"

"I heard that Yanyan nearly lost her life to Bao Yuan. It was only thanks to Zhao Feng that she survived," Wang Ben added, concern evident in his voice.

"Yanyan nearly died at Bao Yuan's hands?" Wang Jian's expression darkened as he asked.

"Father, the personal guards I sent to protect Yanyan informed me discreetly," Wang Ben replied, his tone cautious.

"During the battle, Yanyan pursued Bao Yuan too aggressively. Her overconfidence led her into an ambush by Bao Yuan's guards. If Zhao Feng hadn't arrived in time and killed Bao Yuan, she wouldn't have survived."

"This girl has no idea how dangerous the battlefield can be, yet she dares to chase glory recklessly," Wang Jian said, his tone a mixture of anger and concern.

"Father, what does the urgent message say? Military doctor Chen rarely sends reports," Wang Ben quickly redirected the conversation.

"This Zhao Feng... truly an extraordinary man," Wang Jian remarked with a hint of admiration.

Wang Ben looked puzzled.

"Military doctor Chen is requesting Zhao Feng," Wang Jian explained with a smile.

"What does he need Zhao Feng for?" Wang Ben asked, bewildered.

"Zhao Feng is skilled in medicine. He developed a technique called the 'suturing method' and introduced a method of sterilization using fire," Wang Jian explained.

"These innovations have dramatically improved the survival rate of seriously injured soldiers. In situations where only one in ten would typically survive, Zhao Feng's methods have saved over 200 out of 220 critically injured soldiers."

"Only a dozen succumbed to their injuries."

"That's... miraculous!"

"Saving over 200 severely wounded soldiers is a feat unheard of!" Wang Ben exclaimed, his astonishment evident.

"If not for this, military doctor Chen wouldn't have sent an urgent message," Wang Jian said, his tone serious.

"Zhao Feng is truly remarkable not only is he a warrior of unmatched bravery, but he also possesses life-saving medical skills," Wang Jian said with a mixture of awe and curiosity.

"But father, such a talented individual cannot be confined to being a military doctor!" Wang Ben quickly argued.

"Medical skills can be taught and passed on. If military doctor Chen has already learned Zhao Feng's methods, then having Zhao Feng in the medical camp or not makes little difference."

"However, Zhao Feng's unmatched combat prowess is irreplaceable for the Qin army. A warrior like him cannot be allowed to stay in the medical camp!" Wang Ben said earnestly.

Wang Jian chuckled.

"You think I'm a fool? If I let such a brave warrior remain a military doctor, even Meng Wu would mock me."

"Then, father, if Zhao Feng is transferred to the main army, I want him in my command," Wang Ben said with a grin.

Wang Jian laughed.

"You're ambitious, but your current command is only auxiliary, not front-line. Even if Zhao Feng joins the main army, he'll likely be assigned to Li Teng's division."

"What about after Han is defeated?" Wang Ben pressed, unwilling to give up.

"We'll see then," Wang Jian replied, his tone lighthearted.

But his expression soon turned stern.

"The near-disaster at Yangcheng, with almost 10,000 hidden Han troops, could have severed our supply lines if not for the bravery of the logistics corps. The consequences would have been unimaginable."

"This ambush at Yangcheng could have been avoided. Li Teng's greed for glory is to blame, and he must be held accountable," Wang Jian said coldly.

"Send my orders to rebuke Li Teng and record this offense. If he makes no further mistakes during the campaign, this can be forgiven. Otherwise, he'll face severe punishment."

"Yes, father!" Wang Ben responded immediately.

"Good. Additionally, report the situation to Xianyang so the King is informed of the battle's developments," Wang Jian instructed.
