Ippo : The Fists of Renewal

Chapter 4: Episode 2: Progress

One Year Later…

It had now been a year since Ryoji and Miyata had joined the Kamogawa boxing gym. A year of intense training, sweat, laughter, and teasing.

Takamura, despite his eccentric style, had taken the two newcomers under his wing, constantly pushing them further with his unconventional training methods. Kimura and Aoki never missed a chance to tease them, yet a true camaraderie had formed between them all.

The days were filled with grueling efforts but also lighter moments. Sometimes, Aoki would crack jokes to ease the tension, and Kimura would mock the way Ryoji hit the heavy bags, claiming his punches looked like "gusts of wind." These little jabs had become a ritual, strengthening their bond.

Kamogawa's advice during sparring had become crucial to Ryoji and Miyata's development. He constantly taught them how to read an opponent's movements, manage space and distance, and most importantly, stay calm under pressure. The two young boxers absorbed every lesson with dedication.

Then there were the moments when Takamura would silently observe, giving a satisfied smirk whenever his protégés surpassed their limits. Kamogawa, more discreet, often watched from a distance, but he was always there to guide his fighters when they needed it.

Time passed, and with each day, the two young boxers grew stronger. so much so that no one could truly gauge just how much they had improved. Ryoji's transformation was evident. His body had become more muscular, his arms stronger, his silhouette more defined. His punches were more powerful, more precise. But what stood out the most was the fluidity of his combinations, each movement executed perfectly, his body moving like a well-oiled machine.

As for Miyata, he had become even faster. His technique was flawless, and his dodges were surgical in precision. His footwork had never been so smooth, and his timing had become phenomenal.

to the point where Aoki and Kimura sometimes struggled to land a hit on him during sparring.

[ Present Day ]

The Kamogawa gym was lively that morning. Mitts clashed, heavy bags were struck with fervor. Kamogawa and Takamura watched closely, exchanging a few words.

Ryoji stood before Kamogawa, ready to strike the mitts. A palpable tension filled the air, carrying the promise of something exceptional.

When Ryoji threw his punches, they were far from ordinary. Each combination was fluid, fast, and powerful enough to send shockwaves through the air. The mitts trembled under the force of his attacks, the sound echoing throughout the gym.

Kamogawa nodded in satisfaction. Ryoji had progressed faster than he had expected.

Beside him, Miyata was pounding a heavy bag at incredible speed, his punches landing with pinpoint accuracy, as swift as lightning. His agility and speed were a true display of mastery. He was now a formidable force.

On the other side of the gym, Kimura and Aoki watched in amazement. Their progress was undeniable. What they had once thought were mere beginners had now become full-fledged boxers.

Aoki turned to Kimura with a smirk.

"Remember when we used to beat them easily? Now, it's gotten ridiculously tough."

Kimura sighed, shaking his head.

"Yeah, I remember. Ryoji's punches feel like he's hiding bricks in his gloves. One time, he hit me, and I nearly threw up my lunch!"

Aoki burst out laughing.

"It's unfair! That's why I hate geniuses like them!"

Takamura suddenly appeared behind them, leaning in with an amused grin.

"This is a world you weaklings will never understand… Hahaha!"

Kamogawa suddenly stood up, cutting off the conversation.

"That's enough for today. You've all improved impressively. But now, it's time to see who's truly ready to take the next step."

Everyone turned to him.

"Miyata, Ryoji, you're going to spar against each other. For the first time."

The atmosphere grew tense. The two boxers, now stronger and more experienced, locked eyes. Their breathing quickened slightly, but neither moved.

"Get in the ring. Now."

The two young fighters stepped onto the ring, the ropes creaking under their weight. The air was thick with anticipation. Kamogawa stood beside Takamura, watching closely.

Aoki and Kimura moved back, waiting for the showdown to begin. Takamura crossed his arms, his piercing gaze fixed on the ring.

Ryoji and Miyata were ready.

Both were in peak condition. But this was the first time they would face each other.

All around them, the gym fell silent in anticipation.

The fight was about to begin.

"Alright, show me what you've got," Kamogawa said, his voice calm yet heavy with gravity.

The sound of gloves tightening filled the air, and everyone held their breath, eager to witness what promised to be a legendary battle.

The first punch was about to be thrown.

What happened next ... ? no one could predict…
