Chapter 103: 103 Awaken
The 27th floor of the dungeon... after some time and effort, Altair's group of four finally arrived.
It was a familiar location. It was here that the valiant Bete had once kicked a ground dragon to death with a single strike. Altair and Saeko had also spent an entire month grinding monsters in this area.
Now, Altair was back, this time accompanied by Ais and Lefiya.
"All right, we've arrived. From here on, all the monsters that appear must be defeated by you alone, Ais. Just like how Bete once did," Altair instructed.
"I understand," Ais replied, her expressionless face as calm as ever.
"Well then, let's begin."
Since Ais was nearby, Altair activated his commentary skill but set it not to trigger its full effects. This allowed him to speak normally in the dungeon. His time in the Iron Fortress had indeed helped him better master his abilities.
With the arrival of adventurers, the dungeon was activated, and monsters began to emerge from the walls. They weren't the floor boss ground dragons, just regular monsters.
For Ais, these regular monsters were a simple matter of a few slashes. Like Saeko, Ais followed the path of speed and agility rather than raw strength.
As the Sword Princess moved ahead, preparing to fight, Altair casually retrieved a mat from his spatial pocket, shook it out, and spread it on the ground.
He sat down naturally, just as he had done on the 17th floor.
"Uh... are we really doing this here too?" Lefiya asked, her face marked with exasperation as she watched Altair's casual actions.
"Of course. The upcoming battles have nothing to do with us," Altair replied.
"But… will Ais be all right by herself?"
"This is part of Ais's training. We shouldn't interfere."
Altair, as the commentator, couldn't step onto the battlefield himself! His role was to stay on the sidelines and provide commentary.
"Saeko, if any monsters come near us, I'll leave it to you."
"Leave it to me!" Saeko responded confidently.
While Altair could participate in battle if needed, he chose to entrust this responsibility to Saeko, who readily accepted it.
With everything ready, Altair turned his attention to Ais, who had already begun her fight.
"The Loki Familia's Sword Princess, Ais Wallenstein, a level-5 advanced adventurer. She wields wind-based magic: Ariel."
This was publicly known information. Anyone with even a passing familiarity with Ais would know about her magic... it was her signature skill.
"One could say that Ais's mastery of wind is extraordinary. Her powerful wind magic allows her to dramatically increase her speed and sharpens her sword, enabling her to tear through the defenses of her enemies with ease. Even though she's not particularly strong in terms of raw power, her swordsmanship combined with wind magic compensates for that perfectly!"
"Huh? Altair-san, you're really knowledgeable about Miss Ais's abilities," Lefiya said, sounding a bit surprised.
It was true that many people knew about Ais's skills, but for someone from another Familia to understand them in this level of detail bordered on insider knowledge.
"With Ariel activated, Miss Ais can take down these monsters with just a single slash!" Altair explained confidently.
Hearing this, Ais hesitated for a moment during her sword swing. She took a step back, glancing at the monster before her. Altair's words had given her pause. Ariel was a magic spell with a limited activation time and a cooldown. Did she really need to use magic against these small fry?
"When Miss Ais activates Ariel, her agility and dexterity attributes receive a significant boost. These monsters won't be able to keep up with her speed at all. They'll just stand there, waiting to be slain. To put it simply, they'll only have one option: surrender to death!"
The moment Altair finished speaking, the monster facing Ais suddenly gleamed with alertness. Its movements became noticeably more agile.
Ais furrowed her brow slightly at this unexpected development but didn't let it distract her. After all, a monster on the 27th floor posed no real threat to a Level 5 adventurer like her.
As for the magic Altair mentioned, Ais still felt it was unnecessary against such weak opponents.
With a swing of her right hand, Ais aimed her sword at the monster. However, what should have been a straightforward hit was dodged at the last moment as the monster twisted its body in an unexpectedly precise maneuver.
Ais's eyes widened slightly, but what happened next left her genuinely stunned.
After dodging her attack with a subtle twist, the monster lifted its knee and aimed directly at her chest with a sharp strike.
A monster… using knee strikes?!
Ais was shocked, but her extensive combat experience allowed her to react quickly. She raised her arm to block the attack and simultaneously pulled back her momentum to minimize the impact. Her body recoiled slightly as she reduced the force of the blow.
The monster's knee collided with the armor on her arm, and Ais used the momentum to create distance. She landed a few meters away, her eyes wary as she observed the monster. It lowered its leg slowly, staring coldly at her.
This is strange... too strange.
How could a monster use martial arts?
"Oh, lucky break for that monster!" Altair commented cheerfully. "It managed to dodge Miss Ais's attack, but it won't matter much. That was just a fluke. Her next strike will undoubtedly annihilate it! Sure, the monster moved in an unusual way just now, but there's no way it can actually perform pankration!"
"Pankration? What's that?" Lefiya asked curiously.
"A highly advanced martial art!" Altair explained.
But before their conversation could continue, Ais's next attack was dodged again. This time, the monster countered with a flurry of punches and kicks.
It even performed a move where it supported itself with its hands on the ground, raising both legs into a wide spinning kick aimed directly at Ais.
This time, Ais wasn't fast enough to block the strike and was sent flying by the monster's kick.
Fortunately, she adjusted mid-air and landed on her feet safely.
How is this even possible?!
Though she didn't speak, the expression in Ais's widened eyes said it all. The monster in front of her had now settled back into a proper stance, even adopting a combat-ready posture as if preparing for another fight.
Is this… still a monster?
Ais tightened her grip on her sword, momentarily unsure of how to proceed.
But the monster wouldn't give her the luxury of time to think. It charged straight at her.
Seeing the monster rushing toward her, Ais clenched the hilt of her sword and activated her magic.
"Awaken!"
A glowing azure light enveloped Ais as her spell Ariel activated!
