Chapter 217: CA [217]: The Final Battle and Wishes
Outside Yggdmillennia's castle, the battle had reached a fever pitch.
Mordred's activation of her Noble Phantasm was like a signal, prompting the other servants to unleash theirs in turn.
Achilles deployed his duel field, choosing to engage Chiron in close combat. The fastest man alive forsook his speed advantage to grapple with his former mentor. Meanwhile, Karna unleashed his anti-army Noble Phantasm, obliterating Vlad III in an instant.
Darnic had boasted grandly when Vlad charged into battle, proclaiming him Romania's mightiest hero, bolstered by the highest stat enhancements. In Romania, he claimed, Vlad was invincible.
Then Karna's Noble Phantasm struck, and Vlad was reduced to ashes without a chance to resist.
The terror of the golden spear was unmatched!
Semiramis, commanding the Hanging Gardens, relentlessly bombarded the ground, intent on leveling Yggdmillennia's castle to unearth the hidden Greater Grail.
The Black Faction was in shambles, no match for the Red Faction. Their only remaining servant was Chiron, locked in a wrestling match with Achilles.
As for Caster Avicebron, his greatest ambition was to complete his Noble Phantasm. But his golems, fragile as paper before truly powerful servants, offered little resistance. He perished in the crossfire of an indiscriminate area attack, specifically, when Karna's anti-army Noble Phantasm annihilated Vlad, it conveniently erased Avicebron as well.
The Red Faction held an overwhelming advantage.
Jeanne, caught in the chaos, had no time to pursue Altair. In her mind, the Red Faction's servants were under his control. First, Karna attacked her, then Altair himself attempted to assassinate her, followed by Semiramis's bombardment. Clearly, the Red Faction was his pawn.
With the Black Faction nearly wiped out, save for Chiron, Jeanne felt compelled to intervene to thwart Altair's schemes. She joined the Black Faction, standing against the Red.
Her arrival rekindled hope among the Black Faction. They believed her Ruler-class Command Spells could force the Red Faction's servants to stand down.
Jeanne, at last, entered the battlefield as its arbiter.
Yet her presence didn't shift the tide. Her strength lay in defense, not offense, leaving her unable to gain an edge against Karna.
Desperate, Jeanne prepared to use her Command Spells, but before she could, Amakusa Shirou Tokisada appeared before her.
When Jeanne joined the fight, Amakusa knew confrontation was inevitable. With the Red Faction holding a decisive advantage, only Chiron remained of the Black Faction, and his defeat by Achilles was only a matter of time, Amakusa saw no need to hide. He stepped forward to face Jeanne.
The moment Jeanne saw him, her expression grew complex.
A Ruler with a physical body, unlike Jeanne, who manifested through possession. Amakusa's existence as a Ruler with his own form was an anomaly in the Holy Grail War, marking him as a violator, the true culprit behind the war's distortions.
Amakusa's smug grin contrasted sharply with Jeanne's stunned expression.
Seeing her shock, Amakusa reveled in his position. He was riding a dragon to victory, unbeatable!
But as he prepared to deliver the final monologue of a mastermind, revealing his grand plan to Jeanne, both their expressions froze.
"The Greater Grail!"
"It's appeared, and it's so far away!"
As Rulers, they simultaneously sensed the Greater Grail's presence, but its distance shocked them. It felt as if the battlefield shouldn't be in Trifas but somewhere far beyond.
What was going on? Why was it so distant?
Both Jeanne and Amakusa were baffled, but they quickly made their decisions.
"Find the Greater Grail!"
"Assassin, take the Hanging Gardens to full speed! We must reach the Greater Grail first!"
As the two Rulers set out to locate the Grail, at its actual location, Kairi emerged from the Greater Grail, a satisfied look on his face, casually adjusting his pants like a man leaving a discreet rendezvous.
"Master, did your wish come true?" Altair asked, curious.
"Oh, it's done. I'm itching to test it out right now." Kairi replied.
"Why are you adjusting your pants?" Mordred asked, eyeing his hands with suspicion.
"Uh… it's just part of the process." Kairi said awkwardly, avoiding elaboration. His wish was simple: to ensure his family could produce healthy heirs. As a necromancer, his family's magecraft carried a severe drawback, making it nearly impossible for his lineage to survive. By his generation, he had no heirs, and his Magic Crest seemed destined for another family or a hardy adopted child.
Unwilling to give up, he had wished upon the Greater Grail to alter his family's condition, allowing healthy offspring. The Grail had complied, using its magical energy to modify his body, making him a normal man capable of continuing his line.
"You wouldn't get it." He said, brushing off Mordred's question. She was just a kid, and he wasn't about to explain such matters to her.
He turned to Altair, shifting the topic. "Arthur, your turn. Go make your wish."
"Alright. I'm leaving the outside to you and Mordred." Altair said.
"Father, don't worry! I've got this!" Mordred declared, thumping her chest.
Altair smiled, nodded, and stepped into the Greater Grail.
Inside, he found himself in a boundless garden. At its center stood a silver-haired, red-eyed woman resembling Irisviel von Einzbern, or rather, Irisviel resembled her, for she bore the visage of the Holy Maiden of Winter.
"What is your wish?" She asked, her expression impassive.
Altair didn't hesitate. "I want a holy sword, one capable of slaying gods, breaking all magecraft and magic, bound to me by a life-and-death contract, and able to transform into a silver-haired, clingy, adorable little girl. A sword of the highest rank!"
He finished, heart pounding with anticipation, raising his right hand to catch the sword he expected to appear.
The Greater Grail's will frowned slightly at his eager expression. "The sword you describe doesn't exist in this world, and I cannot create it."
"What?!" Altair's jaw dropped. Impossible! Amakusa's wish to materialize all human souls was granted, but a holy sword was beyond the Grail's power?
"It's not that I cannot create a holy sword." The Grail clarified, sensing his disbelief. "But a sword of the highest rank, a Star-Class Holy Sword, is beyond my ability to produce."
"What about lowering the requirements a bit?" Altair asked.
The Grail nodded. "I can create a lesser sword, but it will take time. However, from your knowledge, I've detected a world with a sword matching your description. I can use my magical energy to create an anchor to that world. With your abilities, you could travel there and obtain the sword yourself. Converting my energy into an anchor would take only a moment."
Altair grinned. "No need to think it over. Send me to that world!"
The choice was obvious, why settle for less when he could travel to a new world and claim exactly what he wanted?
The Greater Grail nodded. "As you wish."
