Chapter 16: Getting back to the Surface
After Ryuu finished off the infant dragon, she came towards me, as I was getting healed.
This time, I was able to see her beautiful face clearly, unlike before when it was hidden under her hood.
She is described as an extremely beautiful girl in the canon, but reading and seeing her in real life are completely different. Her gorgeous blonde hair, like silk, seems to trap the dungeon light in it. Her beautiful ocean blue eyes were examining for injuries.
"Um, are you okay?" I may have stared at her for much longer than I thought I had. As she called out to me again.
"Yeah, I am. Thank you for helping me." I hurriedly added, so she would not get the wrong idea.
"Are you sure? You were fighting that evolved infant dragon. I am not doubting your strength, but it is not an opponent that a Level-1 can fight and come out unscratch." Alise asked more out of worry than out of suspicion.
"He doesn't seem too injured, other than his shoulder being dislocated." The healer who was tending to me explained.
"That infant dragon was strange as well." Ryuu has her insights into the infant dragon.
"Obviously, the infant dragon being on this floor is strange. I am pretty sure even this singing weirdo knows that." Kaguya said with her usual cynicism.
"The name is Arin Kael, Crazy Woman." My retort brought a challenging smirk to her face.
"That as well, but this infant dragon was not fighting solely by relying on its instinct alone. I felt like I was fighting a puppet?" Ryuu said with a little uncertainty.
"I think it was being controlled." My words shocked everyone present.
"Do you mean someone tamed an infant dragon?" Alise asked, slightly shocked, since taming an infant dragon is not an easy feat.
"Yeah, and I think that crystal has something to do with it." I pointed toward the crystal lying on the floor, which Ryuu had left behind as she came to check up on me, right after killing the dragon."
"We will have to get it examined." Lyra quickly runs towards what remains of the infant dragon, scooping up the crystal.
"I think Asfi-san from Hermes Familia would be a good choice for that." Ryuu gave her opinion.
I turned to the group, remembering something. "By the way, did you happen to see a group of adventurers on your way here?" Those idiots were supposed to call for help.
"Yeah, actually—they were the ones who told us about you," Filvis chimed in.
"Oh yeah? I guess they got saved, then." Good. If they'd run away without calling for help, I'd have hunted them down myself.
"Yeah, you saved them, Kael-san. If it wasn't for your heroic stand, they would've died." Ryuu said, her tone sincere.
I didn't bother correcting her misunderstanding of my tone.
If it boosted her impression of me, well... then I was perfectly fine seeing it that way, too.
And it did not seem that the others caught on to my tone either. The one who may have caught on hidden meaning, Lyra, was too busy examining the crystal.
"Just Arin is fine. I don't use honorifics much. So you can drop them with me, too." I said straightforwardly.
"No, that won't be proper for me." I knew she would say that.
"Then I will call you Ryuu, and you can call me whatever you want, how about it?" She thought for a moment and nodded her head. "Yes, that will do."
"Well, if you are done talking, can we go back now?" Lyra, who had been examining the crystal, finally talked.
"Yes, we have found a lot of things to report on. Everyone! let's get back,"
We all started following Alise lead to get back to the surface.
"Guys, he's here!!!" When we exited the dungeon and got back on the surface, I heard the shout of a girl calling out to others. This was one of the adventures that I have saved today.
Following her shout, several people jumped to their feet and came rushing towards me.
"Thank you for saving us!" they said in perfect sync, were they practicing it or what?
"You are welcome." Being thanked always made me uncomfortable. At first, I did not even know what to say. So I settled on my usual reply. To be honest, I was not the type of person who would actively help someone. That is to say i was not a scumbag either if i can help someone and it does not bring any harm to me i will help them.
But I will not actively seek people in need of help. Most of the time, I decide to help someone with one simple criterion, and that is whether I will be able to sleep peacefully or not. If the answer is yes, I would not meddle needlessly, and if the answer is no, then I will get involved.
.
.
.
Or at least that used to be my criterion, but now, the moment I was transmigrated to this world, I have found another criterion, and that is whether the girls that I like would approve of my action or not. And that was also the reason I jumped into this battle. Knowing how dangerous it was.
The guy with who had his arm was broken stepped forward. "I am the person leading this group, If it was not for you, my group and I would have been killed by that infant dragon. We of the Ganesha familia will always be in your debt. If in the Future you ever need our assistance, just say the word, and we will be there."
"Sure, I will remember it. But right now I am a little exhausted, so let's talk later. Alise, Ryuu--everyone--, see you soon."
"Yeah, let's meet again," Alise said.
"Hope the next time you won't bleed my ears with your singing," Kaguya said in her usual voice.
"Ignore her, Kael-san, I like you singing, and I hope I can hear it again," Ryuu said in my defense. I guess she liked music. That's something new I discovered about her. And I wish to continue discovering other new things about her, About Ais, about Riveria, and about Asfi as well.
"Sure, anytime. Ryuu." I gave a small wave and walked toward the manor. Noticing the small wave that Ryuu unconsciously sends my way.
