Is this really a Game?!

Chapter 1194: Changing Strategy: Attack the Core!

Reign frowned, obviously not pleased that his swords were barely able to leave scratches on the silvery chitin of the insectoids. He quickly realized that he wouldn't be effective in this battle if he relied on his swords as the armor of the monsters was very dense and resilient, a perfect counter to his blades, even with his immense strength and great control and skill with them. Therefore, he let go of them, wrapped his hands with black lightning, and clenched them into fists.

"Blunt force!" Reign shouted, his mana-enhanced voice echoing through the huge chamber. "Focus on breaking through that chitin of theirs with blunt force, sharp weapons won't cut it!"

"Greenie, use that hammer of yours to smash them apart, Tank, the other side of the axe will probably be more effective, as well as the shield, Wolf, just hit them with that sword and smash and burn em, Uncle Jin, your punches and kicks will be tested today!"

"As for the others, just use your powers as best as you can, and if you must, use your fists or a weapon we have in our inventory, don't try to stubbornly try to get through their defense with your usual weapons!"

"Got it!" Wolf replied as his flames roared brighter, the heat around his sword intensifying as he swung his sword, hitting one of the insectoids with a torrent of fire that caused the silvery chitin to turn darker while being burned by the flames.

"Tested, huh?" Jin asked as he smirked before cranking his neck and fists, then exploding forward, not allowing Reign's remarks to pass.

Jin moved like a bullet, his body faintly glowing with golden energy as he poured his mana into the entire body, using his ability as well to make himself akin to a living bomb as each strike would carry not an explosion with it, but the impact, vibrations, and the sheer strength that an explosion had with it.

In order to do so, he was actually setting off explosions inside his body, which would probably make everyone think of him as a lunatic if they heard it, but the truth was that it was not that dangerous to him. In fact, if a regular person who had the ability tried it, they would blow themselves up, or at least a limb or two.

But Jin was different. Not only was his hand-to-hand proficiency at Rank SS, but his body had been greatly changed by his ability, as well as his mark, after having both for a long period of time. Detonation explosions inside his body were akin to boosting his attack with mana, there were barely any side effects for him.

And just like that, Jin closed the gap between himself and one of the monsters, his fist quickly colliding with the creature's silvery chitin with a deafening crack, sending a ripple through the body of the insectoid before it was blown backward, the tough armor dented deeply from the impact and blood escaping through small cracks that had formed on its body.

"What do you think, passed your test?" Jin asked with a smirk, shaking his hand slightly as golden sparks from what looked like miniature explosions around his fist crackled around his knuckles.

"Not bad, but let's see how much more you can do." Reign said with a smirk as he moved as well, eager to start fighting the monsters with his bare hands as more of the silvery bastards started appearing around the core.

The rest of the team followed Reign's advice, adjusting their attacks to blunt force in order to be more effective against the insectoids. Tank flipped his axe, using the back as the weapon to deliver crushing blows to the monsters, each strike causing cracks to appear while he also bashed them with his shield, not giving them any time to respond to his attacks, causing their elongated, sharp limbs to scratch on the shield without causing any damage.

Greenie did nothing as his fighting style was already perfect for fighting the monsters. His raw strength and huge hammer allowing him to deal good damage to the monsters that were trying to use their high speed to their advantage in order to deal with him.

More and more of the silvery insectoids started appearing, and they were soon completely outnumbered, with the monsters having more than double their numbers, and more were still appearing.

Laura and Mia switched to providing support, Laura used her demonic energy to wrap around the insectoids to immobilize or slow them down, allowing the others to have a breather or exploit their situation to dish out more damage while Mia's frost made parts of the floor where the insectoids slippery, making so that their sharp limbs didn't have an easy time moving, not to mention that she also used the frost to slow them down as well.

"Shadow!" Reign shouted as he dodged a spear-like leg of an insectoid before slamming down on it with his elbow while simultaneously bringing his knee up, breaking the limb over his knee.

Shadow quickly spread his arms, sending his darkness surging around him, vines of darkness emerging and coiling around multiple insectoids, slowing some down as they managed to wriggle themselves out of the grip, or slash the vines apart, while other were unable to do so.

Reign grinned as another limb of the insectoid stopped a mere inch from his face, grabbed by the vine. He then kicked off the ground and struck the insectoid's face with his knee. The monster had already opened its mouth and spread its mandibles, but the lightning-powered knee was able to break the mandibles and dent the face.

The one who felt the worst, however, due to the fact his fighting style was a complete and utter missmatch against the silver insectoids was Beast.

As an archer, penetrating through the defense of the opponent, aiming at the gaps of the defense and taking them out from afar was his specialty, but against these monsters, he was unable to do so.

How could one use blunt force with arrows after all?

Worst of all, he was also using wind, an ability that was also not suited for fighting against such monsters. Aelrinder was in the same boat as him, he also used wind, and he wielded a spear, which was also not effective against the insectoids as well.

But at least Aelrinder could do something. He was using the blunt end of the spear to hit the monsters, using his spear more as a cudgel than a spear. That came with a problem, however, as he could unintentionally cut himself if he grabbed the spear near the end, where the blade of the spear was.

He used the wind to boost the speed of his attacks and soften the chitin before the spear struck it. The wind coiled around the shaft of the spear, creating a layer of wind around it that would hit the enemy first.

In that fashion, Reign and the others were slowly but surely chipping away at the silver insectoids.

Still, their numbers were not going down in the slightest. Each silvery insectoid they killed was replaced by another that fell down from above the core of the chamber.

It soon became clear to Reign and the others that they won't be able to furst defeat the insectoids and then destroy the core. They had no idea just how much power the core held, but they doubted it had less than they had, which meant that if they continued fighting like this, they would just exhaust themselves and be forced to run away or use their marks.

"We push forward?" Shadow asked as Reign sighed and nodded his head before kicking away a limb of an insectoid.

"That's the only way to get through this, we have to push to the core and attack it while simultaneously defending against the insectoids."

"They will probably attack us in a frenzy when we do that, the core will most likely do something, perhaps make them go in a berserk state or something similar in order to stop us from attacking it," Beast added as they all stared at the core with grave expressions.

They were already having a hard time fighting the insectoids, and if they assaulted the core, the battle would turn much more dofficult, the insectoids didn't care if they died or not, after all, and the only thing on their mind was to kill them.

If the only thing on their mind was to defend the core with any means necessary, then they would become even crazier, making them much more dangerous.

"We all push forward with full force, upon getting close, quickly form up, Laura and Beast will be in the middle and should only focus on the core, Aelrinder, you will do the same, use that wind to bombard the core!"

"As for the rest of us, we defend against the insectoids, and every chance we get to strike the core will be used, don't hold back, the faster we destroy it the better!"
