Chapter 111: A Medical Check-Up
Meanwhile, after spending the entire afternoon gaming, Jian Sichun and Zhu Lingjie arrived at Shi Hai’s home for dinner, only to discover that he wasn’t there.
When they asked, Shi Meng informed them that her brother had gone out earlier in the afternoon to meet a friend.
Shi Hai… meeting a friend?
Oh, could it be that man named Chu Chen?
If he’s meeting a man, it’s probably nothing to worry about… right?
Yet, Jian Sichun couldn’t shake an inexplicable sense of unease. Even as she sat down for dinner at Shi Hai’s house, her thoughts were elsewhere.
This was the first time since her rebirth, apart from attending university classes, that she had been separated from Shi Hai for such a long time.
When she was gaming or consciously choosing to take some time apart from him, her attention would shift, and she wouldn’t feel any particular reaction.
But the moment she became aware of the fact that “Shi Hai has been away from me for a long time,” her dependency issues began to flare up.
Jian Sichun constantly craved Shi Hai’s attention.
She wished for him to look at her every minute, every second.
This was, in fact, the real reason she loved cosplaying—dressing in various outfits solely to keep his gaze fixed on her.
She didn’t hesitate to use every means possible to please him, willing to do anything for his affection, care, and protection.
And Jian Sichun never felt that this was wrong. She didn’t believe her dependency was some deep, blind, or excessive need.
Of course, much of this was because Shi Hai was an incredibly tolerant person.
If she were apart from him for too long, she would call him incessantly—sometimes up to 20 times in an hour. Most men would have felt overwhelmed and wanted to break up long ago.
After all, not everyone can dedicate all their time to their girlfriend. There’s always time spent with friends or moments where one just wants to be alone. Overbearing closeness can often feel suffocating.
But Shi Hai had the ability to fully accept all of Jian Sichun’s whims, agreeing to and accommodating her every request.
This was why Jian Sichun, who had initially only shown slight yandere tendencies, became entirely devoted to one man once she fell in love.
And Shi Hai was the kind of steadfast man who would never allow a yandere to spiral into darkness.
He wouldn’t fear her, avoid her, or find her troublesome. On the contrary, he would love her, care for her, and protect her.
Thus, Jian Sichun found happiness.
But this also resulted in her becoming completely consumed by Shi Hai, her yandere tendencies growing more severe to the point of no return.
In other words, she had reached the classic “I would rather die than to live without you” stage.
After falling for Shi Hai, Jian Sichun even stopped reading romance novels or watching romantic dramas.
Because whenever she did, she would inevitably picture the male lead as Shi Hai, get lost in her own memories, and realize she hadn’t absorbed any of the plot.
And honestly, she didn’t need to look to dramas for sweet romance.
Her real-life relationship was far sweeter than any drama.
She could spend every hour of every day by her lover’s side—how many drama couples could claim that?
But now, she couldn’t do that anymore…
Jian Sichun knew that as someone no longer his girlfriend, she couldn’t selfishly demand that he report his whereabouts to her every moment of the day.
But knowing didn’t mean she could control herself.
“Why isn’t he back yet…? What could Shi Hai possibly be doing?”
This was the 18th time that evening Jian Sichun had asked about Shi Hai’s whereabouts.
And, once again, it was Zhu Lingjie who answered.
“Maybe he’s busy…”
“Do you think he won’t come back tonight?”
“Maybe… but if he wasn’t coming back, he’d probably let his family know.”
“But he hasn’t made a single phone call yet… So, he’s probably coming back tonight, right?”
“Probably…”
“Then why isn’t he back yet? Could something have happened to him?”
“Well…”
The truth was, Zhu Lingjie shared a similar sense of dependency.
However, Zhu Lingjie had devoted herself entirely to Shi Hai, seeking nothing in return.
Whatever Shi Hai chose to do with her was entirely up to him; she would never—and dared not—try to investigate his movements.
But that didn’t mean Zhu Lingjie didn’t feel anxiety and fear.
Her fear was that, what if Shi Hai never came back?
Just imagining that possibility made her shiver uncontrollably…
All she could do was try to console herself and force a faint smile as she said:
“That shouldn’t happen… After all, Shi Hai is a very sensible person. Nothing will go wrong,” Zhu Lingjie said, trying to sound reassuring.
“Ha… I hope so,” Jian Sichun sighed as she sang in an off-key voice, “Come~ back~ to me~ I can’t bear this alone~.”
It was driving her mad.
<+>
These two crazy women…
In the living room, Shi Meng was starting to lose her patience.
She had heard the same conversation so many times that evening her ears were about to sprout calluses.
Shi Meng was also worried about her brother, but she wasn’t acting like the world was about to collapse, unlike these two.
In fact, she suspected her brother had gone to meet a woman.
Though Shi Hai had told her before leaving to save him some dinner, she recalled him carrying a bag when he left. That suggested he might be staying over at someone else’s house.
Shi Meng didn’t mind, though—she had already come to terms with her brother having a harem.
That was why she invited Jian Sichun and Zhu Lingjie to stay for dinner: to keep them from running off to disturb him.
Still, she worried that her brother might be meeting the wrong kind of woman…
When her brother came back, she was determined to ask him who he had met. It was for his own good—she couldn’t let him be deceived by a bad woman!
Meanwhile, Liu Zhenshan, observing their behavior, felt relieved.
It seemed they truly cared about Shi Hai, considering how concerned they were about his whereabouts.
‘Excellent! The harem plan is looking promising!’ she thought, nodding in satisfaction before heading off to bed. Of course, she still wore her stockings to sleep, planning to leave them for her son to wash tomorrow as a reward.
By 10:30 p.m., Shi Hai still hadn’t returned, and Jian Sichun finally lost her patience.
She pulled out her phone, ready to bombard him with calls.
Just as she pressed the call button, they heard the sound of the front door unlocking.
Shi Hai had finally come home!
Jian Sichun immediately jumped up and ran to the door to greet him.
“Welcome back! You’re finally back!”
As soon as Shi Hai opened the door, Jian Sichun appeared, charging at him with such enthusiasm that he reflexively leaned back in surprise.
Shi Meng and Zhu Lingjie also came to the door.
“Brother, welcome back.”
“Welcome back…”
“Oh… You were all waiting for me?” Shi Hai asked, slightly amused.
Jian Sichun put her hands on her hips.
“Of course! We’ve been here for ages! So, where were you? You didn’t even come back for dinner!”
“I just went to Senior Tian Shui’s house,” Shi Hai replied casually.
“What?! You went to Senior Tian Shui’s house?!”
Jian Sichun repeated his words, suddenly realizing something was off. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
“You went to that vix—uh, Senior Tian Shui’s house?!”
Shi Hai saw no reason to hide it and responded calmly, “Yeah, her house is quite big.”
“Did you get tired and stay the night too?”
This wasn’t right.
Something was definitely not right.
“No way… Let me see!” Jian Sichun exclaimed as she started reaching for Shi Hai’s clothes.
She was determined to give Shi Hai a “check-up” on the spot.
She had to check for any signs of hickeys, scratches, bite marks, or other “evidence.”
“Uh… What are you doing?” Shi Hai asked, taken aback.
“I suspect that she’s already done that to you!”
