Chapter 13.1 - Frustrated Heart
“No, I….”
A burning sensation spread over my wrist. For a moment, my mind went blank, possibly due to the heat.
While I hesitated about what to say, Ian spoke first.
“It was a slip of the tongue.”
On his face, which seemed a little impatient, I saw a fleeting expression that had hardened. It seemed wrong to brush it off as just a slip of the tongue when his expression weighed on my mind.
Was he upset?
After all, it was the prince’s face, and I had touched him too casually.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t realize it could be unpleasant.”
“Don’t apologize.”
“No, this is my fault…”
“It wasn’t… unpleasant.”
Ian, who was tracing his own cheek, looked somewhat dazed. He blinked several times in confusion before finally meeting my gaze.
“Are you okay? Is the wound fine?”
“I’m fine.”
When our eyes met, Ian cleverly lowered his gaze as he responded. His long eyelashes, swaying gently, cast a shadow across his sculpted face.
How could anyone say that face had a faint impression?
With a mournful atmosphere adding to it, Ian’s face was almost too handsome to describe.
Could he be the type who can’t objectify himself?
“And your impression isn’t faint at all. The confusion earlier was probably because there was an issue with my memory…”
“I didn’t know I held onto things so long. I suppose I want to leave a deep impression on someone like you, senior.”
After all, Ian was serious about training and wanted to keep sparring with me.
He probably wanted to make a good impression.
“I haven’t confused you with anyone else since then.”
“Then why only with me…?”
Ian, who had been continuing with an impatient expression, suddenly stopped talking. The door to the training hall opened with a creak.
“Rose?”
It was Edwin who appeared. As I sighed in relief, he approached, his cloak fluttering, narrowing his eyes as he looked back and forth between Ian and me.
“What are you two doing here?”
“We were sparring.”
Since I had no other excuse, I honestly told him, and Edwin’s eyes widened.
“You sparred? With Klein?”
“Aren’t you planning to stay at the dorm tonight, Ed?”
“Well, I am, but…”
I quickly picked up the sword that had fallen at my feet and sheathed it before walking over to Edwin.
“Let’s talk on the way. We’ll go ahead, newbie.”
“Wait, Rose. You need your cloak.”
I took the cloak Edwin handed me and turned to remind Ian, who was still standing there absent-mindedly.
“Make sure to treat the wound.”
After confirming that Ian had faintly nodded, I walked out of the training hall.
“What’s going on? Sparring? You don’t usually spar with the members.”
“Well, that’s…”
Edwin, who had hurriedly followed me outside, waved his hand in the air, urging me to speak quickly.
I chuckled at his flapping gestures and explained what had happened.
“Aha, so the one who confessed was someone else, and Klein asked you to spar, but you misunderstood that as a confession?”
Edwin, who had stopped in place, laughed hard, clutching his stomach.
I knew you’d react like that.
“Shut up, Ed. This is right in front of the dorm.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I missed the right timing.”
Edwin shot me a look as if he thought there was more to the story, then wrinkled his nose.
“Yeah, you were too embarrassed to say it right away. Is that it?”
As if to prove he’d guessed right, Edwin’s eyes suddenly glinted with a new thought.
“Klein’s skills seem fine, huh?”
“Huh?”
“You didn’t just agree to spar with Klein because you misunderstood, did you?”
Well, that’s true.
I nodded without hesitation.
“Objectively, Klein’s skills are among the top in our order.”
“Really? If you say that, I guess I’ll have to step up my game too.”
Just as I was about to respond, I closed my mouth. I couldn’t bring myself to say that Ian’s skills were superior to Edwin’s, especially with him right in front of me.
As if he understood my silence, Edwin playfully clenched his fists.
But there was something off about his walk. When he stepped on his left foot, it seemed like he hesitated for a moment.
“Why are you walking like that?”
“Looks like I can’t fool your eyes, Rose.”
“Well, that’s true…”
I picked up the sword that had fallen at my feet and sheathed it before walking over to Edwin’s side.
“Let’s talk on the way. We’ll go ahead, newbie.”
“Wait, Rose. You need your cloak.”
I took the cloak Edwin handed me and didn’t forget to give Ian a parting reminder.
“Make sure to treat the wound.”
After confirming that Ian had faintly nodded, I stepped out of the training hall.

“Did you get hurt?”
“I just slightly twisted it.”
During the last monster subjugation, Edwin had injured his left ankle when attacked by a monster.
