Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Alive
On January 16, 2021 By gutezaguterez0980
I spent about five hours talking with the developers of Nikkendo.
They taught me about the power supply, etc., and we decided on a schedule for the future.
After a short break from the discussion, Jack, who was standing guard outside, came in.
"It's 6 pm. I want you to finish your work. It's time to head to the hotel."
I was a little surprised when he spoke in fluent Japanese.
Well, I can see why he became the bodyguard for the trip to Japan.
Then, a female developer stepped forward.
"Well, then, Lina. Can you give me your contact information?"
At these words, Jack hurriedly interrupted her.
"I'd appreciate it if you didn't exchange contact information without permission."
"Why is that? I can't do my job if I don't talk to her about development from time to time. I don't intend to use it for anything else."
"Hmm…."
Then Jack reluctantly backed down.
Well, I guess he is acting with a certain standard to protect me as the American side.
I think it would be like ... when someone strange tricked me and took me away.
He's just doing the job he's been given.
I wrote down the contact information of my phone and gave it to the developer.
"My contact is here, and I'll make sure it reaches me even if I'm in Mardea. Email only, though."
"Thank you, that helps."
After I managed to secure the lines for Nikkendo and Mardea, I left the development room.
"Good work, Lina."
In the aisle, Maria was waiting for me.
"Thank you, Maria, for guarding me."
"It's okay. You' re talking to Nikkendo's developers on an equal footing. I'm surprised. You're amazing, Lina."
"Haha, I'm just talking about localizing it to my planet. Is my hotel nearby?"
My question was answered in English by Jack, who had regained his composure.
"It's a bit far, but we've got a safe place. It was arranged by the Japanese government. They say they have security in place."
"I see."
It's hard to go to Nara when things are so tightly packed. I'm sure the guards won't leave either.
I decided to talk with them while moving in a car.
"I wonder if I can do some sightseeing in Japan."
Then Jack made a blatantly reluctant face.
"Now that it's your first visit to Japan, the whole country is in an uproar. It would be great if you could stay as safe as possible."
"If it's food you want, I can arrange it."
"Oh, thanks."
It's going to be difficult. I guess I'll just have to try to earn my freedom little by little.
"I'm sorry, we are going to have dinner at the hotel today too. I'm sorry to make you feel cramped."
"No, no. Both of you are doing your job properly"
It's not that they are doing this of their own volition.
Suddenly coming to Japan and escorting aliens all the time would be a very difficult thing to do.
I feel a little bad about that.
When I arrived at the high-priced hotel, a tough Japanese man in a suit saluted me.
This must be security.
After being quickly escorted through the lobby, I made my way to my suite on the top floor.
When I turn on the TV, the news programs are reporting about me.
Also The Internet is abuzz with rumors about me.
"Lina Malderita is definitely in Kansai at this moment!"
It has already been viewed a million times.
On social networking sites, it's all about me.
[I'm really looking for it]
[She can't be there]
[No, she' s in there somewhere. Maybe a hotel now.]
[She might be eating Japanese food right now.]
[If you see a bunch of unnaturally black cars parked together, that's it.]
It's kind of anticipated, too.
On yutube, some people are doing live broadcasts of their search for Lina Marderita.
This means that I won't be able to go out for a while properly.
If I make a bad move, it will affect the situation in other countries. This is not a joke.
Just saying I'm coming to Japan, The Prime Minister rushes in to welcome me.
I am in that position now.
Not just Lina, but treated as a representative of Maldea.
I can't let my personal selfishness cause trouble for people and others country.
As long as I can come to Japan, I have a chance.
Maybe we should meet in secret after things have calmed down a bit and we've gotten things in order. I reconsidered.
After that, I continued to check the Internet, but I couldn't find out if my parents' store was still in business.
My parents don't seem to have created a website or anything, so I have no information.
Instead, I found an interesting name on social media.
Genki Saito, who was my lifelong friend. His nickname is Gen.
It's a real-name site, and they're showing pictures. It's definitely him.
When I was a student. He was the closest person to me.
I decided to send a message to Genki through an anonymous IP from my magic device.
"Hey Gen, give me back the Rockmen X I loaned you in the spring of '94."
This should tell him it's me.
Rockmen is an action shooting game that has been popular since the days of Famicom.
I lent it to Gen, and it's been in his house ever since.
I contacted him and waited for about an hour, then the reply message came.
"Stop the bad jokes. Who are you? How do you know that? He's dead."
It seems that he' s still wary of me. Of course. There was no way they could realistically believe that a dead person could be alive.
"I'm your old friend. The hidden place for your erotic book is between the futons. You like gals, and you said you were going to confess to Kayo-chan, but you never did."
In the meantime, I wrote a bunch of stuff about that guy that only I would have known in my previous life and sent it to him, and he responded again soon after.
"Who are you, seriously? Are you one of his friends?
He seemed to think that I was related to me in a previous life.
I typed more letters and decided to check with him.
"I'm in Japan now. It's difficult now, but I want to return to my hometown eventually. Hey Gen. My mom and dad, are they still alive?"
Then, a little while later, I received a reply.
"…. Oh. I met Yuji Nakata's parents last month, and they're still in good health. I don't know about you, but that's a fact."
When I saw the words, I collapsed.
Yuji Nakata was my name in a previous life.
Mom and Dad, they're still alive.
I'm sure we will meet someday.
It took me an hour to get there by train.
Let's take it slow, keep in touch with Gen and wait for the right time.
I spent the night looking out the window of my suite towards the ground of Japan.
For a while after that, I spent my days going back and forth between the hotel and Nikkendo.
I spent about half a month perfecting a device that converts magic power into electricity.
I was alone with my excitement as I worked in the development room I was given.
But I have to actually test it.
I took the finished product and headed to the room where the developers were.
"Good work. Look, the converter is finished."
"Really?"
We immediately decided to do a test play in front of everyone.
I put a converter between the magic source I prepared and the Nikkendo Swits, and turned on the game console.
Then the logo of Switz appeared on the monitor.
"Oh, Switz is up and running!"
"How's the game?"
When I actually played Hypermaruo, I was able to play it the same way I did with electricity.
In handheld mode, I was able to play the same way.
"Now you can play Switz in Maldea!"
I looked up and nodded at the developer, who looking down at the screen happily.
"Yes. Now all I need to do is convert the video output from Switz to the Maldeans, and We'll be able to play it on our monitor. This is also almost finished at the same time, so I will test it once I return to the planet. I'll manage to mass-produce the magical components of the converter in Maldea."
"Okay. We'll go ahead and localize the software."
After shaking hands with the developers, I had to return to Mardea.
I put the necessary stuff in my bag and said goodbye to the two Americans.
"Mr. Jack. Ms. Maria. Thank you for escorting me this far."
"Yes. I'll let them know you're back."
"Good luck, Lina!"
After the two of them called out to me, I activated the device on my arm.
In the next moment, my figure disappeared from the earth.
