Jackie Chan adventures: Demon Lord's New Life

Chapter 35: "The Dragon Slayer's Fall."

As Zhou Lan left the scene, the powerful gravitational force that had weighed on the area gradually faded away with her.

Shendu looked down at the fierce battle raging below. A faint red glow flickered in his pupils.

"So, the Chronicle of Time can actually transform into the Pure Yang Sword, the very same sword once wielded by Lü Dongbin of the Eight Immortals…"

After closely observing the fight for a while, Shendu finally figured it out: the Pure Yang Sword wasn't a real physical weapon at all.

It was actually a manifestation of the broken pages of the Chronicle of Time—no wonder it constantly pulsed with temporal energy.

If that's the case, then the divine weapons of the other seven continents probably come from other shards of the Chronicle of Time, too.

"Now that Zhou Lan's made her move, that so-called Lord of the Demon City won't last long."

With that, Shendu followed after Zhou Lan, guiding his flying cloud as he slowly drifted toward the area where sword light and fire clashed.

Meanwhile, on the ground—

Li Yan had absorbed the life force and magic of every demon from the entire Ancient Asia Continent. His power had skyrocketed to unimaginable levels—enough to affect half the continent if he went all out.

And Ling'er? She was a divine creation carefully crafted by Shendu himself, and her strength was more than a match.

Right now, Li Yan was wielding the Pure Yang Sword, slashing repeatedly and releasing waves of sword energy like he wanted to tear open the sky itself.

"Go!"

With a roar, he swung the sword, releasing a massive surge of demonic energy that shook the heavens.

The sharp sword energy gathered into a long arc of light—like a blazing rainbow—and slashed toward Ling'er's dragon form.

A metallic clang rang out as it struck her scales, echoing across the sky.

"Again?!"

Li Yan grit his teeth. No matter how much power he used, he still couldn't break through the dragon demon's defenses.

"ROAR!!"

Ling'er let out a deafening roar. The air rippled like water as if something invisible was surging around her. Then, out of nowhere, her massive tail—packed with unimaginable force—whipped toward Li Yan at a speed almost as fast as light.

"Tch, annoying!"

Li Yan scoffed, shut his eyes, and synced with the energy of heaven and earth. Then, gripping his sword tight, he slashed sideways.

A huge shockwave erupted. He was blasted backward, flying several meters through the air before he managed to stabilize himself. All the while, the ambient demonic energy surged into his body, reinforcing his strength.

The Demon Capture Array was still active, but it had weakened a lot. It could no longer absorb as much energy from the surrounding demons and couldn't shield him from Ling'er's fierce attacks.

"Fire, lightning, strength, speed, invisibility, water…"

Li Yan muttered under his breath, listing off the divine powers Ling'er had shown.

"You're nothing like those other lizard-looking dragon freaks I fought before."

He spoke toward an empty corner of the battlefield like he was talking to himself.

But suddenly, the air trembled—then a violent gust of wind came rushing in. Li Yan instantly sensed the incoming attack.

He raised the Pure Yang Sword and slashed horizontally.

Dark demonic energy engulfed the blade and collided with… empty air.

A violent shockwave erupted, the clouds within a thousand-mile radius were blown to bits, and the sky turned a pristine blue.

After exchanging a few blows, Li Yan was forced back nearly a kilometer. Before he could catch his breath, a massive fire dragon—nearly a thousand meters tall—came crashing down toward him.

"Ja gnaas nikiwa, ja gnaas nikiwa—!"

Li Yan didn't panic. He quickly began chanting the incantation for the Demon Capture Array again.

In the next second, a mysterious suction force filled the air.

The incoming fire dragon began to dissolve, breaking down into rich demonic energy that Li Yan eagerly absorbed into his body.

But that last attack had pushed the Demon Capture Array to its limit. As the magic circle shattered completely, it could no longer hold up.

Ling'er's dragon eyes reflected the familiar sight. Her invisibility faded, revealing her form once more. She said coldly:

"That cheap trick of yours is finished. You're dying here today—that's an order from the Dragon King!"

Just as she tried to summon all her divine power for one final blow—

Li Yan suddenly let out a cold laugh, raised his sword, and began chanting slowly:

"Demons and spirits, begone. Demons and spirits, begone!"

"Demons and spirits, begone. Demons and spirits, begone!"

As soon as he said it, Ling'er froze in place.

She couldn't feel her divine energy anymore. It was like she'd been locked in place by an invisible force.

The massive power Li Yan poured into the sword left his face ghostly pale, but seeing this dragon demon immobilized made the corner of his lips curl into a mocking grin.

He didn't know why the chant worked—or why it was so absurdly simple—but if it helped him win, then he didn't care.

"Dragon Slayer…"

He whispered, raising the sword high.

With that, a blinding sword light slashed outward—no dramatic weather changes or elemental effects. Just pure, simple, deadly magic.

The sword energy flew through the air.

Li Yan dropped to one knee, barely holding himself up with his sword.

Ling'er finally broke free of the invisible force and immediately sensed danger.

This sword strike was different.

It was deadly.

The pride in her eyes vanished, replaced by overwhelming fear.

Seeing her expression, Li Yan laughed wildly:

"HAHAHAHA! Looks like I win after all!"

"So what if you're strong? That sword strike has ninety percent of my magic in it. There's no way you can stop it!"

"Just accept it—dying is the only outcome for you—wait, what?!"

Just as he was celebrating, his expression froze.

Right before the sword light could strike Ling'er, it stopped mid-air—completely halted.

An invisible gravitational force had formed a barrier around it. The attack was sealed inside, unable to go further or break free.

"Who's there?!"

Now Li Yan understood—someone had interfered and saved the dragon.

"So this is the power that counters demon lords… interesting!"

Zhou Lan descended from the sky, holding out her hand. A tiny barrier hovered above her palm, trapping the deadly sword light in place.

She glanced over at Ling'er, then turned her attention to Li Yan:

"Tell me—where did you get the power of time?"

Then, with a squeeze of her hand, the terrifying sword energy that had terrified Ling'er was crushed into dust.

"Who the hell are you?!" Li Yan demanded.

He didn't answer her question—instead, he tried to get some information himself.

On the outside, he looked calm, but his back was drenched in cold sweat.

Zhou Lan stared him down and said coldly:

"I am Zhou Lan, Sovereign of the Moon."

"Now, little bug, answer me—how did you get time magic?"

The pressure in the air exploded. It felt like the end of the world was descending from the sky.

Once Li Yan realized she was one of the Eight Demon Sovereigns, he abandoned all thoughts of fighting back. The energy radiating from her was enough to crush him like an ant.

Especially since the last attack—powered by ninety percent of his magic—was so easily destroyed.

If he didn't run now, then when?

Instead of answering her, he tried to activate the fusion with the Pure Yang Sword to escape.

But before he could make a move—A beam of pitch-black light shot toward him, moving impossibly fast——and pierced straight through his chest.
