__________
The reason why the two did not rush to attack each other was not only because they wanted to observe each other, but also because of their reserve as strong individuals.
Now, the formality of exchanging names had been completed, and neither side had any intention of reaching a compromise or avoiding disputes.
With that, there was no longer any reason to avoid fighting.
A flash of lightning streaked across the sky, and at a speed beyond the limits of human vision, the distance between them was crossed in an instant. The tips of their guns collided!
_______
Author's message: Rhongomiant is the spear wielded by Arthur in Arthurian legend. In the Battle of Camlann, the final chapter of the Arthurian saga, Arthur used this spear to pierce the rebellious knight, Mordred.
_______
A sound reverberated through the air, like the roar of a massive bronze bell struck violently, spreading in all directions with a deafening buzz.
It felt as though the entire space's air was compressed and then suddenly exploded, sending waves of air rolling outward from the point of impact, raising clouds of dust.
It seemed as if even the forest outside trembled, the leaves rustling, while the ground beneath the two combatants' feet dented from the shockwave.
This was merely the result of a collision of their gun tips.
In this first contact, Shalltear found herself at a disadvantage.
Arthur's strike carried more force than she had anticipated, knocking her back hastily. Seizing this opportunity, Arthur charged forward without hesitation.
The first blow, as swift as a meteor, pierced Shalltear's shoulder, leaving a bloody hole. Without a moment's pause, Arthur stepped forward, aiming to follow up with a second strike.
At that moment, Shalltear regained her balance in midair and swung her empty hand.
Wall of Stone!
A massive stone wall emerged from the ground, blocking Arthur's path. The wall collided with the opponent's spear and shattered easily. However, the knight's attack was delayed by only a second.
But that was enough.
Magic surged through Shalltear's body, condensing into a fiery, almost purple-red flame. In the blink of an eye, her dress vanished, replaced by a full-body armor of ochre-red.
The failure of her first attack was not due to her weakness but her carelessness. Since arriving in this new world, she had not encountered anyone strong enough to pose a serious threat, leading her to misjudge Arthur's strength.
She fought without even activating her strongest "Valkyrie" state, and was wounded by the enemy the moment the battle began. If it had been Ainz or Aya, they would have likely reflected on themselves first.
It was unfortunate that Shalltear had not yet realized this. Her mind was filled with fury. She activated a special skill to revert the wound on her shoulder to its state before the attack. She extended her spear to block Arthur's strike.
Using negative magic like [Greater Lethal] could also heal the undead Pelia, but there wasn't enough time. With her limited window of opportunity, Shalltear chose to cast the strengthening magic [Force Sanctuary].
This time, the collision of their weapons was even, as Shalltear's "Valkyrie" state allowed her to catch Arthur's strike. Both were evenly matched in strength. This judgment was made simultaneously by the two combatants.
They each took a step back, then stabbed at each other with their spears once again. Arthur turned his head, the wind pressure from Shalltear's spear grazing his ears. Shalltear, in turn, raised her hand armor to block the silver spear's attack.
A silver arc of light flashed by, and Shalltear felt as if her chest had been struck by a hammer, staggering back a step.
The next moment, she saw the source of the heavy blow: it was Arthur's knee, striking her breastplate with powerful force.
"Is this even possible?" Arthur sighed in astonishment as his fist, wrapped in a silver-white gauntlet, neared Shalltear's face.
The air twisted, and a shockwave exploded outward, with Shalltear as its epicenter. The knight reacted swiftly, pushing off the ground with his right foot and leaping back to avoid the range of the explosion.
Shalltear activated her special skill again.
Impure Impact Shield!
Just as Arthur stepped back, another explosion rang out.
[Maximize Magic Force Explosion]
Shalltear cast the spell and waved her hand again.
[Maximize Magic Vermilion Nova]!
First, a momentary explosion, then a scarlet flame engulfed Arthur's entire body. This was how it should have been.
It was as though a gust of wind surrounded his feet, and Arthur's already dazzling speed increased even further. He easily escaped the range of Shalltear's magic.
If the attack doesn't hit, no matter how powerful the magic, it remains ineffective.
Gritting her teeth, Shalltear raised her spear again.
Realizing that her magical attack had little chance of succeeding, Shalltear shifted her focus back to physical combat.
The spear in Shalltear's hand was an artifact-level weapon. In addition to its basic attributes, it had the special ability to restore the wielder's physical strength based on the damage inflicted.
In a prolonged battle, the advantage of this feature would grow, tipping the balance in her favor as the battle wore on.
However, there was a prerequisite: she had to be able to inflict damage.
Arthur swung his spear, sending it flashing through the air. In an instant, the spear's body gleamed with light, like the corona of a rising sun.
Shalltear stepped back, the tip of the spear grazing her nose. She quickly raised her spear from below, and a pool of blood appeared in the air as several bloodthirsty blades launched toward Arthur.
Arthur raised his left foot and stepped on the shaft of Shalltear's spear, using his silver spear to shatter the blood blades. Then, with his left foot as a pivot, he swung his right leg and kicked upward!
His entire body spun with the force of the kick, resembling a silver battle axe that swung heavily toward Shalltear's face!
Shalltear raised her arm to block, but the crushing blow paralyzed her entire arm. With a roar, she thrust her spear upward, sending Arthur flying through the air.
As if anticipating this, Arthur maintained his balance midair and immediately raised his right foot again, without hesitation!
From top to bottom, with the force of gravity, he delivered a strike that seemed capable of splitting Mount Huashan in two!
'Just fight with your spear properly!' Shalltear roared in her heart, activating her Impure Impact Shield once again.
She wasn't pushed too far back by the shockwave, but the distance was perfect for spear combat. She quickly adjusted her stance after landing.
Then, a silver-white light seemed to fall from the sky, and Arthur swung his spear, launching a rapid series of stabbing attacks!
Shalltear's spear was unrelenting. Scarlet waves erupted from its shaft, and sparks flew as their weapons collided!
The silver-white and purple-red figures moved rapidly across the battlefield like bolts of lightning, speeding, colliding, separating, and colliding again.
It was an intense and fast-paced battle. Every clash was close combat, yet it was over in an instant. The sound of metal striking metal rang through the air as sparks flew, and waves of force spread outward.
The speed of both combatants had long surpassed human perception. Whether moving or attacking, all that could be seen were the afterimages they left behind, followed by thunderous explosions.
Mixed in with the chaos were bursts of magical energy, along with large-area destructive spells aimed at overwhelming their foe.
It was as if two Valkyries from mythology were locked in a duel.
Unable to land a decisive blow, Shalltear gritted her teeth. After dozens of exchanges, she realized this fact.
Each time she attacked, Arthur responded flawlessly. If her strike was enhanced by magic or even blessed with further power, Arthur would either dodge or block it with his weapon. For more casual probing strikes, Arthur would always counterattack.
