Chapter 186: Chapter 158
After that day, Geto Suguru was constantly on the move.
He requested more missions from the higher-ups than usual, consulted with Zoro, and put more effort into his Haki training. He also squeezed in foreign language studies and began training to control more and more intricate curses at once.
When Satoru asked, half-complaining, what was keeping him so busy, Geto replied with a carefree smile.
"I'm going to overthrow the higher-ups."
"Wow."
"And beyond that, the jujutsu world too. Overthrow might be too strong a word; reform is more fitting. What I want is not destruction but rebirth."
I'll change everything, from start to finish. Suguru said, in a light tone, words that were anything but light.
"In the current jujutsu world, everyone is being asked to sacrifice."
The strong, the weak, sorcerers, non-sorcerers.
You, me, Shoko, Riko, and Zoro too.
Fortunately, none of the people close to Geto had yet been forced to make a truly significant sacrifice.
Before such a day comes.
"I want to change the jujutsu world."
His blue eyes examined his friend's pupils. Those firm eyes contained the usual kindness, now mixed with a determination that wasn't there before.
"For the weak?"
"No. For everyone."
"Hmm. You used to say we needed to defeat the strong for the sake of the weak. Has your thinking changed?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because there are people who are both strong and weak. I want to protect those people."
"...What kind of nonsense is that? How can someone be both strong and weak?"
"I didn't know either, but it turns out they can."
Geto turned his gaze to the classroom window. Beyond the glass, Zoro was wrapping a scarf around Megumi's neck.
Understanding dawned on Gojo's face, making him frown.
"Hey, how is he weak?"
"He's young."
"He doesn't seem mentally young at all."
"Even so, his physical age is only eight."
A society that requires a child to sacrifice themselves to be maintained can't be right. At Geto's firm words, Gojo frowned but didn't argue.
"So, how has your thinking changed?"
"I need to make it so that no one needs to be defeated, and everyone can be protected."
Being born a non-sorcerer isn't a sin, and neither is being born a sorcerer.
The current jujutsu world is wrong to demand endless sacrifices from those born with the power to protect others just because they were born with it.
In the meantime, special cases like Zoro or Toji, female sorcerers, or non-sorcerer-born sorcerers, no matter how much they devote and sacrifice, don't get the recognition they deserve.
Geto Suguru intended to overturn all of that.
Gojo, now intrigued, leaned his chin on the desk.
"So, what's the plan?"
"I need to get rid of the higher-ups. Not just by using force, but with proper evidence and justification. Then I'll establish a new Jujutsu Council."
The jujutsu world, after all, is a world comprised of sorcerers and those related to jujutsu.
The current Jujutsu Council, which demands constant sacrifices from sorcerers for the sake of non-sorcerers, isn't a member of the jujutsu world.
Moreover, it's a council that discriminates, is incompetent, and monopolizes power, having accumulated much resentment and dissatisfaction.
'With the proper justification and a substitute organization, most sorcerers would immediately turn their backs on the council.'
Geto opened an English conversation book as he spoke.
"There is so much to do. To reform the jujutsu world as soon as possible, I need to stay busy."
The first priority is to reduce the number of curses. As Zoro said, dealing with the higher-ups in the midst of such busyness would place a heavy burden on the remaining sorcerers.
'I also need to find people to staff the new higher-ups.'
Geto was considering foreign countries as a place to recruit new personnel.
'Japan might have a higher number and stronger sorcerers compared to other countries, but sorcerers do exist elsewhere too.'
He was also considering the idea of importing cursed tools for money. Hence, he had started studying foreign languages.
'It's also worth considering the help of the Ainu Jujutsu Union, another group of sorcerers active in Japan.'
Their power could help fill the manpower gap created by the absence of the higher-ups.
If Geto could control curses precisely and individually, he might be able to entrust them with significant curse exorcism duties. For this, the development of his techniques was essential.
Even after removing the higher-ups and establishing a new council, numerous problems would remain. Negotiating with the government to ensure continued financial support and addressing long-standing systemic issues would be necessary.
Frequent errors in grade assessment.
Discrimination based on gender, family background, and the presence or absence of techniques.
The insane practice of sending minors on life-threatening missions and then executing them if things went wrong, among other things.
Listening to Suguru's endless list, Gojo made a weary face.
"Are you going to do all that by yourself?"
"That's impossible. But I will need to work the hardest."
Suguru had no complaints about this. It was his vision of the world, so he had to create it.
Gojo, looking sulky, threw out a comment.
"What about me?"
"...?"
"Aren't you going to include me?"
"Do you want to help?"
"Why would you think I wouldn't?"
"You're not interested in this kind of thing."
Suguru said, somewhat sullenly.
Satoru had no interest in politics. The reason was very simple: Gojo hardly ever faced anything he couldn't do on his own. Forming groups and making plans were unnecessary for Gojo Satoru.
No matter what kind of politics someone engaged in or what organizations they formed to create a society, hardly anyone could touch Gojo, let alone harm him.
'At most, only Zoro and Toji-sensei.'
Even then, Toji had fallen far behind Gojo since he awakened his Reverse Curse Technique. He could only 'touch' him with Heavenly Restriction, not win or fight on equal terms.
"Are you going to help?"
"Why would you think I wouldn't? Of course, I'll help."
Satoru pouted as if he were sulking. Seeing this, Geto Suguru smiled slightly.
"Thank you. Really."
"If you're grateful, five birthday cakes this time. Not all at once, but one every week for two months."
Listening to Satoru's demand for weekly cakes, Geto shook his head. Yet, a smile never left his face.
...
On December 7, 2007, Gojo Satoru's eighteenth birthday,
Geto explained his plan calmly to the gathered juniors, teachers, and acquaintances celebrating Gojo's birthday.
Shoko said, "Looks like I'll have more work for a while," lighting a cigarette. Yaga muttered, "God damn." Toji remained impassive, and Zoro just raised an eyebrow without much reaction.
Mei Mei laughed and said, "If Geto-kun can give me more money than the current council, I'm on his side." Utahime, skeptical, asked, "Is that even possible?"
Haibara gave a thumbs up, saying, "As expected of Geto-senpai! Great idea!" Nanami nodded, agreeing, "This damn jujutsu world definitely needs a change."
Surprisingly, even Naoya was very positive.
Given his close ties with the jujutsu elders, Naoya should have been most opposed, but he immediately agreed with Geto's plan to establish a new council.
"Because of those idiots who can't put anything in their heads, strong people like Toji-kun and Zoro-kun don't even get a proper grade. Those fools should just die as soon as possible—"
"Hey, that's enough."
"Why, Satoru-kun? It's true."
Not everyone agreed with Suguru's plan and ideals, nor did they all believe it could be realized.
Still, everyone who had shared Suguru's youth was there.
Feeling that everyone present would celebrate when his dream came true,
Geto Suguru realized that he had indeed chosen the right path.
...
Whether someone sets a dream or not. Whether they strive for that dream or not.
Time flows inexorably, unchanged.
December 22, 2007.
Zenin Megumi's fifth birthday passed.
December 31, 2007.
Zenin Toji's thirtieth birthday also passed.
Finally, January 1, 2008.
The new year arrived.
And on that day, Zenin Megumi manifested his innate technique.
The supreme technique that the Zenin clan had longed for.
Ten Shadows Technique.
