Chapter 11: Looking For A Way Out
Ye Chen looked at Su Mengxin with curiosity. "Oh yeah, how did you end up getting kidnapped by those people?"
Su Mengxin furrowed her brows, trying to recall. "I remember attending a party, but there were too many people crowding around me. It made me uncomfortable, so I stepped outside to get some fresh air. That's when someone grabbed me from behind and covered my mouth with a handkerchief soaked in something. When I woke up, I was in a container truck with a group of armed men."
Ye Chen nodded. "I see. Do you have any idea why they kidnapped you?"
Su Mengxin shook her head. "I'm not sure. Maybe they wanted money or something else." She sounded uncertain.
Ye Chen smiled reassuringly. "I understand. You must be hungry. Here, eat this roast chicken."
He handed her a piece of roasted meat. Su Mengxin hesitated for a moment, unsure if it was safe to eat. Seeing her reluctance, Ye Chen took a big bite himself, chewing with exaggerated enthusiasm.
Su Mengxin couldn't help but laugh. "Pfft! You eat like you haven't had food in days."
She then brought the meat closer to her nose, inhaling its rich aroma. It smelled delicious. Taking a cautious bite, her eyes widened. "This is really good!" She took another bite, then another, enjoying the meal without worrying about appearances.
After finishing their food, they continued talking, sharing stories and laughter. Ye Chen even cracked a few jokes that made Su Mengxin laugh more freely. Before they knew it, they had grown quite comfortable with each other.
Ye Chen saw an opportunity and discreetly absorbed Su Mengxin's (Yinqi).
"Alright, we should get down and find a way out of this forest," Ye Chen said, standing up.
Su Mengxin suddenly remembered they were still in a tree. Looking down, she realized they were at least 15 meters off the ground. She frowned, wondering how Ye Chen had carried her up here when she was unconscious.
Ye Chen extended his arms toward her. "Come on, I'll carry you down."
Su Mengxin blinked in surprise. "Like… like a princess?" Her face turned slightly red.
"Of course," Ye Chen said with a grin before scooping her up effortlessly.
Before she could protest, he jumped down. "Ahhh!" Su Mengxin shrieked, instinctively burying her face in his chest.
After a few seconds, the wind rushing past them ceased, and they landed smoothly. Su Mengxin opened her eyes, relieved that they were both still alive. "Ye Chen! You almost scared me to death!" she scolded, her heart still pounding.
Ye Chen chuckled. "But we're safe, aren't we?"
Rolling her eyes, Su Mengxin followed as he started walking. They needed to find a way out, and following the tracks left by their attackers seemed like the best option. In truth, Ye Chen could easily fly out of the forest, but he didn't want to reveal his abilities to Su Mengxin just yet.
Su Mengxin still had a cloth draped over her body for warmth. After a few minutes of walking, they reached the battlefield where Ye Chen had fought earlier. Su Mengxin gasped at the sight of lifeless bodies scattered across the ground.
Curious, she turned to Ye Chen. "Did you do this?"
Ye Chen hesitated before replying, "Not exactly. I fought them and left for a few minutes. When I came back, they were all dead. I think their own people turned against them."
Su Mengxin studied his face but didn't press further. "I understand. Either way, you had no choice. If you hadn't fought, you might've been the one lying here instead."
Ye Chen nodded appreciatively. "Let's keep moving. If we follow this trail, we might find a way out."
They walked side by side, navigating through the dense forest. Suddenly, Su Mengxin let out a small cry and stumbled.
"Ahh!" She fell to the ground, wincing.
Ye Chen immediately rushed to her side. "What happened? Are you hurt?"
She winced, trying to move her foot. "I think I twisted my ankle." Her expensive shoes weren't suited for trekking through rough terrain.
"Hold on, I'll help you." Ye Chen gently took her foot and started massaging it, his fingers expertly kneading the strained muscles.
Su Mengxin let out a small gasp before biting her lip. "Mmm… That actually feels… really good."
Ye Chen smirked but kept his focus. "Of course. I know what I'm doing."
After a few moments, he looked up. "All done. Try standing up now."
Su Mengxin nodded and carefully got to her feet, but as soon as she put weight on her foot, she wobbled. Ye Chen reacted quickly, catching her by the waist before she could fall.
"Are you okay?" he asked, concerned.
"I… I'm just a little unsteady," she admitted, holding onto him for support.
Ye Chen sighed. "Looks like you won't be able to walk properly for a while. How about I carry you?"
Su Mengxin's cheeks turned slightly pink. "Won't that be a burden on you?"
"Not at all. Besides, if we don't hurry, it'll get dark soon." Ye Chen knelt down, waiting for her to climb onto his back.
After a moment of hesitation, Su Mengxin sighed and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Alright… just don't drop me."
Ye Chen grinned. "Never. Hold on tight."
With Su Mengxin securely on his back, he continued walking through the forest, determined to find a way out.
