Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 44: Demon Lord

At this moment, the Demon Lord was very curious about Lu Yu, as simply suppressing Fortune and Destiny with his Innate Spirit Root was not enough to escape his invasion—there must be some secrets unknown to others.

"Since it's just an avatar, I might as well explore and see for myself," the Demon Lord muttered to himself.

As his voice fell, his pitch-black figure seemed to turn ethereal and slowly penetrated from above Lu Yu's head—an eerie scene unfolded within the undiscovered White Skeleton Cave, which would have terrified any ordinary person who saw it.

Just then, a sea sparkling with starlight blocked the Demon Lord's path; he knew this was the foundation of Lu Yu's cultivation, protecting his dreams and mind.

However, the great disparity in their realms meant such obstructions were insignificant in his eyes; with a faint smile, a wide path of shadows appeared over the tumultuous sea.

The Demon Lord walked leisurely on the path of shadows; the sea, as if enraged, sent giant waves sweeping towards him, but as they neared the path, they were blocked by an invisible barrier and could not advance any further.

Dark clouds began to gather overhead, with violent winds howling and thunderclaps roaring. A bolt of lightning struck down from the sky but still failed to come close to the Demon Lord's body.

This was Lu Yu's subconscious reacting to the Demon Lord's invasion, starting a counterattack, and all the manifestations within his mind were the results of his cultivation.

The Demon Lord looked up at the dark clouds and the continuously falling thunder, laughing as he said, "The aura of Heavenly Punishment, sadly it's not mature enough."

Sensing that these measures were ineffective against the Demon Lord, the dark clouds overhead began to disperse, revealing a dazzling light that flickered and seemed to hang in the sky like a sun.

The Great Dao Treasure Vase, Lu Yu's Life-bound Magical Treasure, finally demonstrated its power at this moment, inherently possessing the ability to suppress evil.

The Treasure Vase radiated endless brilliance in that moment—a Light of Merit and also a light to drive away demons.

Faintly, one could see the convergence of myriad rivers, the roaring great river ascending into clouds and mist, with thunder and lightning, and descending as rainwater to silently nourish all beings. The Great Dao of water manifested here, and at the same time, a glow of Buddha Light faintly appeared behind the vase.

The light shone on the Demon Lord, emitting a sizzling sound, like a red-hot iron block hitting the water, continuously releasing black mist from the Demon Lord's dark figure, yet all this still could not stop his advancing steps.

Still maintaining his leisurely pace, the Demon Lord slightly lifted his head and said lightly, "Quite interesting."

In the Demon Lord's strides, the seemingly boundless sea had now reached its end, with a dense fog obscuring the path ahead.

This was a mental barrier belonging to every creature, something very familiar to a Lord of the Heavenly Demons; thus, the Demon Lord did not care. What he cared about now was what kind of scene he could see through this white fog and what secrets it might hold.

"Let me see what kind of secrets you still hide behind!" The Demon Lord's tone carried a rare hint of curiosity and excitement.

With a gentle wave of his hand, the dense fog parted to both sides, revealing a path. The Demon Lord stepped onto the path, and the fog gradually engulfed his figure. The sea calmed once again, as if nothing had ever happened.

Having passed through the vast white fog, a brand new world appeared before the eyes of the Demon Lord.

Skyscrapers constructed of steel and concrete, cars moving everywhere, and omnipresent televisions—this bizarre world stunned the mighty being.

Having lived through countless years, he had never seen a sight like this. Every vision completely overturned his imagination, and this world, flourishing to the extreme, was so different that it caused the feared Demon Lord to stand frozen in place.

"No, this world lacks transcendence, and my power is fading." The Demon Lord muttered to himself, his words tinged with fear.

He was afraid. Without the power of transcendence, what could a once omnipotent Demon Lord have left? At this moment, his heart was filled with confusion.

"No, this is a decline in power leading to an unstable state of mind. I never thought I would one day encounter this so-called demonic obstacle. Even without power, it doesn't matter.

As long as I understand my true heart and can fathom others' intentions, I can still manipulate people's hearts." Worthy of being a being close to transcendence, in just a moment, he had stabilized his mind again and even refined his state of mind further. If this incarnation of his could get out this time, then the Demon Lord would become even more formidable.

Having stabilized his mind, the Demon Lord didn't rush to find Lu Yu's whereabouts but instead started to look around with interest, curious about this bizarre world.

By this time, the Demon Lord was no longer shrouded in blackness, emanating a creepy aura. The disappearance of his transcendent power caused him to gradually lose his uniqueness, turning into a regular human form.

Passing by the roadside, he heard a couple quarreling.

"I'm telling you, I'm definitely going to sort you out today. You really have gone too far," the husband shouted angrily.

"Hit me then, if you dare! If you don't hit me today, you're not a man," the woman responded defiantly.

"Alright, you asked for it. I'm going to kill you today—don't pull me back," the man yelled frantically, but he hesitated to take action. People around him were persuading him, since it's better to demolish ten temples than to destroy one marriage. Many couples have drifted apart over trivial matters.

However, at that moment, someone in the crowd suddenly said, "No one is holding you back!"

As soon as these words were spoken, the man could no longer pretend, and driven by anger, a crisp slap rang out immediately.

"You dare to hit me, I'll fight you!'" the woman's eyes reddened, and she grabbed the man's hair. The couple instantly started fighting, leaving the bystanders in shock.

Meanwhile, the Demon Lord who had spoken, strolled away leisurely, humming a tune he had just heard on the street, swinging away nonchalantly.

On the majestic riverside bridge, a young girl stood in despair, the wind blowing her hair tips, yet unable to bring her back to her senses. At this moment, all she wanted was to end it all.

The crowd had already gathered around, and a negotiator was patiently talking with the girl, hoping to dissuade her from suicide through his efforts. People around were also trying to help the child out of her plight, while the police had already started preparing various life-saving tools.

As the girl seemed to regain hope to live through everyone's efforts, a soft voice at the riverside said, "If you want to die, why not do it sooner and stop wasting society's resources."
