Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 62 Abyss

Lu Yu randomly chose a direction and moved forward without knowing how long he had walked when a miraculous scene appeared before his eyes.

A tremendous dividing line appeared before him, splitting the entire ocean in two, one side was the blue Sea of Thunder, and the other was a Sea of Blood filled with grievances.

At the intersection of the two, there was a vast abyss with an astounding aura emanating from it.

Lu Yu carefully observed the abyss, and a look of shock gradually appeared on his face as he suspected that the abyss might have been cleaved by a single sword strike.

A sword that divided the heavens and earth, and after so many years, it had not allowed the two sides to converge, only to gaze across the abyss at each other. What magnificent power it was, and what kind of existence possessed such strength.

"There are famous Sword Immortals in the world, but none could achieve this extent. Why does the aura of this Sea of Blood feel so familiar? It resembles the Sea of Blood of that old ancestor, but with an added sense of brutality." Lu Yu muttered to himself.

He stepped over the abyss, and an astonishing Sword Intent came forth. Lu Yu felt as if he were witnessing the apocalypse, the collapse of all realms, and the extinction of all things, which involuntarily caused cold sweat to stream down his face.

Withdrawing the step he had taken forward, he slightly sighed and said, "The Path of the End, could it be that Shangqing Saint?"

In his knowledge, only that saint, who possessed the Zhu Xian Sword Array and symbolized the end of the world, could have such accomplishment. Thus, he was perplexed, unsure if the saint had come to slay Leize or to resolve this Sea of Blood.

As he was silently contemplating, a familiar figure appeared before him—it was Iron-Crutch Li, the first to enter.

He looked disheveled with scorched marks on his body. Seeing Lu Yu, he was very pleased and said with a smile, "Daoist Lu, I'm just one step behind you,"

"Daoist Li, what happened to you? You look so disheveled." Lu Yu also asked with a smile.

"Ah! It's hard to say, just bad luck. As soon as I arrived in this world, I fell into the midst of a group of Thunder beings and almost got killed by these little creatures," Iron-Crutch Li said with a sigh.

"Oh! So there are creatures in this world. I didn't see even one along the way." Lu Yu was genuinely intrigued, as he had never seen the Thunder beings that Iron-Crutch Li mentioned.

"How else do you explain bad luck? These Thunder beings are few in number but gather in groups. It was just my ill-fate to encounter them," Iron-Crutch Li sighed.

Hearing this, Lu Yu couldn't help but laugh. Iron-Crutch Li really was unlucky, encountering the rare Thunder beings.

"Luckily, although I am physically disabled, I'm not slow at escaping; otherwise, you would've seen more than just me being disheveled." After saying this, he took out a gourd, opened the mouth, and lightly uttered towards the sea surface: "Quick!"

Three figures then emerged from the gourd and landed on the sea surface, it was Yu Ji and two others who Iron-Crutch Li had previously captured.

As soon as the three emerged from the gourd, they curiously surveyed their surroundings. Nan Hua was the first to react, and he greeted Lu Yu and his companion, "We have seen the two Immortal Chiefs, thank you Immortal Chiefs for the help, allowing your disciples to witness such wonders."

Iron-Crutch Li responded with a smile, "No need for formalities, it was but a small effort. The entire Taoist Sect is one family, helping you is my duty as an elder."

At this moment, Yu Ji, the most curious among them, noticed the abyss in front of him. Intrigued, he stepped into the abyss.

Everyone then noticed Yu Ji standing motionless on the spot, with large beads of sweat continuously streaming down his face. Lu Yu, having had a previous experience, could naturally guess what Yu Ji was enduring and immediately took action, pulling Yu Ji out of the abyss.

Yu Ji was drenched all over, as if he had been pulled out of water, his face still showing a panicked expression, gasping for air heavily.

"Thank you, Immortal Chief, for saving my life." Yu Ji gasped as he bowed in gratitude to Lu Yu. He knew that had it not been for the Immortal Chief's immediate intervention, he would have been utterly destroyed by that terrifying Sword Intent.

"What happened to you, looking so dispirited?" Nan Hua and Zuo Ci asked concernedly.

"It was terrifying, this endless abyss was actually slashed open by a single person wielding a sword. The Sword Intent left behind almost destroyed my spirit. Had the Immortal Chief not acted promptly, today might have been my end," Yu Ji said, his face still showing signs of fright.

Yu Ji's words made Nan Hua and Zuo Ci stop in their tracks. They had also planned to step into the abyss to see for themselves, but now they simply couldn't move forward. Since Yu Ji, whose strength was comparable to theirs, had nearly perished, the same fate probably awaited them as well.

"Whose Sword Intent was left behind that possesses such formidable power?" Iron-Crutch Li became interested, knowing that although there were many Sword Immortals in the world, he had never heard of anyone capable of releasing such Sword Intent. His words were directed to Lu Yu, who had been to this place before Lu Yu and presumably had already explored the abyss.

"The Sword Intent is pure and contains the path to the end; apart from Lord Lingbao, I cannot think of anyone else," said Lu Yu.

"Lord Lingbao, indeed only he could wield such strength to deliver such a blow," Lu Yu and Iron-Crutch Li conversed softly.

The voices of Lu Yu and Iron-Crutch Li, though soft, sounded like a thunderclap to Yu Ji and the other two—it was Lord Lingbao, one of the three Pure Ones of Taoism, a symbol of the world's end, undoubtedly a legendary figure. They never imagined they would have the fortune to witness his handiwork.

Yu Ji instantly lost his previous dejection and said with a proud look to Nan Hua and Zuo Ci, "Imagine, I too was struck by Heavenly Venerable."

They were all raised in the Taoist tradition, and the Three Pure Ones are a fundamental part of their faith. Being able to personally witness the traces left by such a figure was an unparalleled honor for them.

"To think it was the work of Heavenly Venerable, how disrespectful of us," they remarked.

Iron-Crutch Li did not respond to their conversation but said to Lu Yu, "Since it is Lord Lingbao who has acted, if I can't personally experience it, I might live in regret forever. Allow Lao Lee to properly experience the work of Heavenly Venerable."

After saying this, Iron-Crutch Li, leaning on his crutch, stepped into the abyss. Compared to Lu Yu, Iron-Crutch Li, who was more prepared, seemed to fare much better, showing no sweat on his face, though that could also be because he naturally perspired less. "Indeed, it was Heavenly Venerable who acted, only he possesses such fearful Sword Intent. Just at that moment, I felt as if I saw a treasured sword appear at the horizon, and with a single strike, it split the ocean," Iron-Crutch Li exhaled deeply and said to Lu Yu.

He cupped his hand over his eyes as he gazed toward the distance, silently estimating the span between the sides.
