Judgement Executioner: The Sin Collector System

Chapter 5: Submechina

Elias has somehow managed to escape and stumble into a alleyway, the cut he received drained him of life and he collapsed. With the last breathes in his lungs, he cursed his life and died and the new Elias was born some time afterwards.

Elias was never a good man, at least not to his family. Whatever resistance he served all perished at the hands of that strange black substance.

This meant that the new Elias was born with a new role exactly, to be a...

"What am I supposed to do now?" He had no idea what to do with his new life. "Am I meant to be a grim reaper? But what does that even mean."

"I have no experience with family for me to be a father now, what sort of reincarnation bullshit is this?" He almost pulled his head out.

His body was a walking killing machine with metallic implants, "This wasn't why I chose to come back, this must be a shitty joke."

Just then there was a soft knock on the window, Elias was startled. The apartment room was several feet high, there was no way someone would be at the window— knocking.

He was alarmed when a bird flew into his window, tearing through the curtains, it looked like a black raven.

"What the fuck!" He jumped back out of fear as she bed flew into his face, it let out a loud caw. He covered his face expecting the fury of claws on his face.

But the world fell silent...

Elias waited for a few more seconds before dropping his guard and looking around his room for the bed but it had somehow vanished. His eyes managed to catch sight of of a folded piece of parchment left on his bed. It was thick and black with no stamp on it.

Elias could feel his hairs standing on his skin as he addressed the matter before him. "What the fuck is going on. First reincarnation then grim reaper powers, a crazy black blob and now a creepy ass bird dropping letters. Where the fuck did I get sent to?"

It took him a minute to approach the parchment. When unfolded, the letters burned themselves into the air— literally:

"You are summoned to the Submechanica. Do not be late. Your sins are watching."

Elias trembled, he was not sure which of the two had him speechless. The floating words that appeared in thin air or the point that his sins were watching.

A moment passed and a gear — small, silver, engraved with a single eye — rolled from the parchment and embedded itself in his palm.

Elias could have sworn that it was not there a moment ago.

"Its a portal key," the Broker said, his voice drifting from nowhere carried by an eerie wind. "They're expecting you."

The eye on the gear blinked and the gear turned in his hand, a second later a portal tore reality like a paper seam. The world twisted around him. Steam howled into his face. Gravity stuttered.

And he fell upside down, the gravity collapsing in on itself, he screamed and called out for help but there was no one around to hear him.

Everything was happening too fast, and in a few seconds the world stopped spinning and he was face flat on the ground.

He had emerged into a cathedral of metal and misery — miles below Veilhallow's surface. Pipes coiled like serpents across the ceilings. Gears the size of carriages turned endlessly. Hanging lanterns burned with black flame but still gave a ghostly white glow.

Elias emptied the little meal he had eaten unto the ground as he climbed unto his feet, trying to stop his world from turning. When he had settled he looked at the humongous structure before him and marveled at the sight.

He knew he should have felt frightened but instead he felt wonder and astonishment towards to creative structure before him.

But his time of surprise was disrupted by another presence.

"Welcome to the Submechanica," said a voice beside him— he recognised it to be the cold hollow voice of the Broker, hooded and faceless. A mystery hidden within the dark depths of his face.

Elias was too disoriented to be frightened, he simply looked at the broker and kept mute.

"This is where the Sinners gather."

The broker's words struck him deep in the chest.

The broker started to walk into the cathedral where two stone statues in the form of armoured knights stood by the massive door. They moved like they were alive and pushed the door open.

As Elias ran after the man he could feel the huge knight statues staring at his soul. "Where the fuck are we going? I need answers please."

The broker spoke, "To see the mortem caste."

"The what?" Elias asked.

The broker said nothing more to put his troubled mind to rest no matter how hard he tried. He was afraid he would face something he was not prepared for, and honestly he was not prepared for anything this new world had in store for him.
