Chapter 79: Chapter 79 - Jutsu Journal
"So, you're saying he killed the right hand of the Hokage so easily?"
An emasculated skeleton of a man suspended within a six legged metal contraption spoke from the center of a large dark room at the top of a tower. His deep voice carried a strange mixture of weakness and strength. The red-haired man's lower half was surrounded in what looked like bandages, and his hands were encased in metal tubes of some sort. Numerous black metal poles protruded from his back.
"Yes," Konan quietly responded while standing slightly adjacent to the metal contraption. "Jin also said he found the links of Danzo's hand in… Yahiko's death."
Nagato lowered his head further than normal and closed his eyes. After a few moments of stifling silence, Nagato opened his spiral-pattern purple eyes again and asked, "So he is saying that he has done us a favor and obtained revenge for us?"
"No, I don't think Jin would do that," Konan hesitantly responded. Then, when Nagato's eyes turned to look at her, she added, "I think he was just letting me know what happened and left it at that."
"...If you think so, then so be it. Whether or not Danzo died affects nothing on our current path."
"..."
"However, if you do find that Jin tried to obtain some vengeance on our behalf with no ulterior motives, then although unnecessary, his thoughts are appreciated. Even if he has turned down joining the Akatsuki, it would seem he would not necessarily stand against us, either."
Not knowing what else to say, Konan looked down at the tablet in her hand with a distant gaze.
* * * * *
Although inwardly resistant to her orders, Yugao flickered out from the Hokage building after accepting them and landed on the rounded shingles of a nearby rooftop. Her brown eyes scanned the scenery looking for Jin's dark purple hair.
"Where did he go?" She whispered aloud to herself.
Assuming she would be able to find him eventually, she hopped onto from rooftop to rooftop searching for her mission target.
Near the front gate of Konoha, Jin casually greeted the gate guards. One of them gave him a temporary pass due to his current lack of identification once he explained his situation to them. With that in hand, he ambled out through the massive green bamboo gates and along the path back to where Konan and he split up.
Further away from the village, he spread out his Reiatsu in a web to search for nearby lifeforms. Aside from wildlife, he found nothing.
Without a tail to bother him, Jin summoned a barrier board and flew at the speed of a vehicle careening along on the Autobahn.
Before long, he arrived near where he thought he split up with Konan. Unfortunately, because everything around here was thick forest, he spent several minutes trying to locate the life signature of her paper clone even after sending a few messages to her in the chat group.
Finally finding her clone's diluted life signature several minutes later, Jin descended into a thick tree canopy. He floated down and hovered above the heavy undergrowth covering the forest floor. Although he sensed her life force in front of him, he did not see her.
The next moment, Jin raised a brow when a nearby tree scattered into paper squares that looked exactly like the bark of an oak tree. All of the papers released the transformation that made them look like bark and reshaped themselves into Konan.
"That is an impressive transformation," Jin commented.
Konan averted her eyes and responded with a barely noticeable nod.
"I'd imagine you're bored just waiting out here. Would you rather come with me to the village? Bringing you inside for a few days shouldn't be an issue. Could use transformation if you don't want to be recognized."
"I will stay here."
"You sure?"
"They might think you are bringing in a spy."
"Fair enough. If I'm upfront, Hiruzen would probably be fine with me bringing a visitor for a couple days, though."
"..."
Seeing the woman's amber eyes glance at him with a hint of interest before turning away again, Jin offered, "I'll check if there would be any issues and then let you know."
"...Okay."
"Well, leave that for later. I need to start on writing out those Jutsu notes I mentioned in the chat group."
Konan nodded, folded a few hand seals, and unleashed a wind style Jutsu that shredded the thick foliage on the forest floor in a ten meter radius around them while leaving only the sturdier trees behind. The strong gusts blew all the debris away. A circular clearing remained, though it remained covered by the thick tree canopy above.
"Nice. Thank you."
Konan nodded in acknowledgement.
From there, Jin created a table and chairs with barrier magic and sat down. Then, he retrieved a spiral notebook and pen from his inventory. He gestured for Konan to sit in the barrier chair next to him but immediately opened the notebook and started jotting down notes the next moment. Writing hastily so as to jot as much down as he could before forgetting any details made his normally even script to look a little messy.
After a silent observation of Jin's barrier furnishings, Konan sat in the other barrier chair next to him. Her eyes scanned through the notes scribbled onto the page. Upon seeing poorly drawn scribbles of hand signs interspersed in the notes, her lips twitched slightly in mild amusement. Perhaps even a sage could not be good at everything.
Amidst the chirping of wild birds and the occasional passing of other random wildlife like deer, squirrels, or foxes, time quickly passed.
Konan silently watched Jin's hand blur across the pages at breakneck speed while recording all kinds of Jutsus. Some of the techniques were familiar to her, but then there were others such as secret clan Jutsus like the Uzumaki sealing techniques that made her frown.
Particularly noticing Konan clenching her hands together while he was jotting down the Uzumaki sealing techniques, Jin commented, "Perhaps you noticed, but Danzo had all kinds of things he should never have had access to. If not for his hand in the downfall of the Uzumaki, perhaps you would have never encountered Nagato."
Konan frowned but did not say anything in response.
Still jotting down more techniques and scribbled sketches, Jin offhandedly commented, "There are quite a few similar situations he stuck his hand in, unfortunately. The fall of the Uzumaki is just one of the more major ones. World's a better place without him."
"Yes. Perhaps it is."
Eventually, Jin filled up most of the notebook. He didn't know exactly how long it took to write down everything, but judging by the changes in the shadows around them, he assumed several hours.
"Sorry to make you sit here that whole time, but thanks. Happen to notice any issues or mistakes?"
"A few."
Scooching the notebook and pen along the surface of the barrier table toward Konan, Jin asked, "Would you mind amending them for me?"
Konan shook her head and pulled the two items closer. The pages flipped open under her slender fingers. The pen danced across a few of the pages and amended some of the information. Most of the hand sign drawings received absurdly detailed renditions.
Watching the artistic script that looked like calligrapher's dream scrawled out on the pages as well as the absurdly detailed sketches that took her only moments to draw dumbfounded Jin. The speed and artistry combined together did not compute in his brain.
Before long, Konan finished all of the edits she thought herself capable of amending. Most of it included simpler Jutsus disconnected from any bloodline limit or clan secrets, but she at least fixed Jin's horrible drawings to an almost obsessive compulsive extent.
"Wow," Jin mumbled while flipping through the pages after she handed the notebook back to him. "These are incredibly detailed. You're a spectacular artist."
"Thank you," Konan responded in a barely audible voice.
Konan's cheeks reddened ever so slightly, but luckily for her, the tall collar of her Akatsuki robe hid her current expression.
"Thanks for helping with this. Hmmm… Now that I look at all of this again, it'll probably take years to study all of this. I'll need to prioritize. Also, would you like a copy? I can photocopy it when I return to my world so that you can have an exact duplicate if you want."
"No, thank you."
"It's pretty easy to do with the technology in my world if you're worried about that."
"Then… maybe. If it isn't troublesome."
"No problem at all."
"...Thank you."
Nodding, Jin skimmed through all the Jutsus and seals written and drawn in the notebook. Originally, he thought the seals would be impossible to replicate with his drawing skills, yet somehow Konan replicated most of them perfectly according to what he memorized in Danzo's memories. A few of the most complicated seals lacked a few details, but he did not think he would require knowledge of those for now.
'Not like I'm going to make a Jinchuriki any time soon. The Flying Raijin would be nice to have perfectly replicated, but it seemed like it required a lot of prerequisite knowledge first, anyway. Can always go soul form to get it from Konoha's secret scroll at some point if needed.'
Setting aside the seals and Jutsus that did not make sense to learn at this point in time, he focused on selecting a handful of techniques that would prove useful sooner than others. For the time being, he skipped over elemental Jutsu in favor of techniques like Shadow Clone, Multi Shadow Clone, Taijutsu, and Bukijutsu.
"I'm going to practice the Shadow Clones first to hasten my training speed. Mind helping me with it since I'm still unfamiliar with molding Chakra?"
"Sure."
