Chapter 1334: Revenge of the Lioness
'Screw it. I owe it to my brothers and sisters in surviving long enough to bury their regrets in the skulls of these kaijin bastards,' Lyona concluded. 'What do I need to do?'
[Well, since you already agreed to my assistance, all you need to do is sit back, relax, and... actually, that's terrible advice. You're about to be infused with the same type of power as these assholes, and that power is incredibly reactive to emotions. You know that feeling of rage, justice and indignation currently coursing through you?]
'Yes.'
[Ride that shit.]
'Oh...banging.'
...Now back to real time...
CLANG!
[HAHAHA! BULLSEYE!]
"Holy shit..."
"Oh no..."
As Lyona impacted the minecart and became buried by its payload, the slaves that weren't closely related to her simply looked over for a brief moment before bringing their attention back to their original task.
Cases of abuse and death occurred regularly in the [Mines of Malevolence], but that didn't make their occurrences any less tragic.
If anything, the survivors and observers simply thanked their lucky stars that they had yet to suffer from such a fate.
As for those related to the victim, they understandably wept and grieved.
^Lyona...no...^
Watching from the sidelines, yet too afraid to intervene, was one such person.
[Huh? What's wrong, cow? Grieving for your fellow slave?]
The cow in question was actually a buffalo Bloodliner slave named Taurna.
She and Lyona were essentially sisters in all but blood, and had been raised together in the [Mines for Malevolence] since they were babies.
Unlike Lyona, though, Taurna wasn't as strong willed despite being raised by those same brothers. In fact, she greatly relied on Lyona's strength to be strong herself.
As such, seeing her sister get crumpled like a paper doll by the vicious Mange, caused Taurna to fall to her knees in despair and tears.
However, that sadness was only for a brief moment.
^Lyona...^
Staring at the crumpled and buried form of her childhood friend, something Taurna snapped.
And from his mental snap, something that was locked in her blood finally began to stir after so many years of dormancy.
^You stupid dog...^
Enraged by the sight of her friend's death, Taurna rose to her feet as her aether circulated wildly and took the form of sparks of lighting arcing across her flesh.
Not only that, but the horns growing on the side of her head began to glow with a dark golden light.
[Oh? Has the cow gone mad too?] Mange laughed. [Looks like someone needs to be broken.]
^MOO!^
Emboldened by rage and empowered by the blood in her veins, Taurna rushed forward with the intention of tackling Mange into a cavern wall and hopefully splatter the bastard into a fine, bloody paste.
That wasn't going to happen, though.
During Taurna's suicidal charge, Mange simply empowered his whip with [Chaos] once more and lashed out.
In a matter of moments, the whip was going to make contact with Taurna's head and split her right down the middle, the ballad of this would-be avenger ending prematurely and with the phrase, "And then the foolish cow was split in twain."
Outside the notice of both slave and kaijin, though, a certain lioness was stirring.
Taurna's charge had been so loud and eye-catching, that Mange failed to notice that Lyona wasn't rendered unconscious or dead after impacting the minecart.
In fact, if he had been giving a damn, he would've noticed that the chunks of ore that she was buried under had started to fall apart and reform into a carapace that covered her arms and head.
Not only that, but these chunks of stone were starting to radiate with the power of [Chaos].
[Die!]
Mange brought down his whip, with the full intent of killing Taurna in an instant.
However, before the inevitable could happen, the unexpected happened instead.
[Stone Lion's Rage!]
[OOF!]
^Huh?!^
As Mange was about to bring down his whip, Lyona suddenly impacted him from the side with an intermediate Ethereal-grade aether art that was suffused with [Chaos].
The art itself was fairly flashy, as it enabled the user to coat themselves in a thick armor made of stone that vaguely resembled a lion statue, but the addition of [Chaos] made the art even deadlier.
^Lyona?!^Taurna exclaimed with surprise at the sight of her sister suddenly coming back from the dead and managing to land a hit on Mange.
A real hit, no less.
The sound of crunching bones and battered flesh was hard to ignore, especially when it came from a source that everyone thought was invincible.
Beyond the immediate group of slaves that Lyona and Taurna were a part of, slaves from other groups and even the kaijin couldn't help but be shocked by the sight.
"Did...did she just injure an overseer?!"
<Holy fuck, they bleed?!>
~That girl...she's just like those warriors from the other day!~
[Did that little bitch just use Chaos?!]
Needless to say, Lyona's actions were hard to miss.
[Bah!]
Mange let out an ugly yowl as he recovered his footing and converge his [Chaos] towards his freshly broken bones.
The three-faced kaijin showed signs of cycling for a brief moment before he managed to restore the damage.
That stated, Mange didn't appreciate actual battle damage being inflicted by a mortal slave.
[How the fuck did you do this, you fucking bitch of a cat?!]
Lyona didn't immediately provide an answer when this question was posed.
Instead, she made sure to close the between herself and Mange before answering while throwing out a heavy stone-covered fist directly into the latter's sternum.
[BECAUSE FUCK YOU THAT'S HOW!]
...
[I didn't even have to tell you to say that...I just knew we were going to get along great.]
'Yeah, well, I've been holding on to that rage for a little over fifteen years. Felt good to finally say it out loud.'
[I figured...oh, by the way, the next time you fight one of these freaky bastards, you might want to destroy their core, after removing it from their body.]
'Uh...okay, why?'
[Because they'll split off into their original components and give other kaijin opportunities to profit from their deaths.]
'Doesn't that means I can just destroy their cores while they're separated?'
[I...huh.]
...
When Lyona's fist impacted Mange's sternum, the kinetic force of her punch had actually penetrated the flesh and shattered the [Core] that was beneath the surface.
[GRK!]*3
The effect of this attack was almost immediate, as Mange began to fall apart while being sent flying towards a wall.
By the time impact had occurred, Mange had already divided into a fox-like kaijin, a dog-like kaijin and a wolf-like kaijin.
On top of that, all three of the canine-like kaijin appeared to have a bad case of mange.
With her target now shattered into pieces, Lyona took the chance to catch her breath.
^Lyona!^
^Huh? Taurna!^
During this time, Taurna decided that now was a good time to ask what had happened to her.
^Lyona, how the hell did you—^
Unfortunately, she was interrupted.
[Alright, that's enough of that!]
From other parts of the mine, hostile appeared one after the other and surrounded Lyona and Taurna in a menacing manner.
Judging from the way they were circulating their [Chaos], they were aiming to turn this situation into a "no survivors" deal.
[Alright, slaves,] a kaijin that resembled an axololt declared as they took the lead.[If you don't put up a fight, we'll make sure your deaths will be as swift and painless as those three failures.]
[AAAAAAHHHH!]
[Mostly pain—]
^FUCK YOU!^
Before the axolotl could finish making his threat, Lyona simply rushed forward and jammed her fist through the poor bastard's torso.
Although, punching through the bastard wasn't all she did.
Before the eyes of all the kaijin present, Lyona was clearly holding betwixt her stoney claws, a solid gold orb that seemed to be composed of a three or so screaming faces of beast.
This sight, needless to say, enraged and frightened the surrounding kaijin.
[Oh, what the fuck?!]
[She's got his core. She's got his fucking core!]
[Alright, little cat. I suggest you put down the Core before you do something that you're going to regret.]
^Oh?^ Lyona asked with a mocking tone. ^You mean like...this?!^
BANG!
[GAH!]
[Chaos] suddenly surged through her limbs before focusing into her claws and injecting itself directly into the [Core] in her hands.
The sudden influx of energy caused the pilfered [Core] to immediately explode into a million little pieces.
As the [Core] disintegrated into nothingness, the kaijin impaled on Lyona's arm began to fall apart into its base animals.
Granted, nobody paid attention to these dying beasts at this time.
All the kaijin were busy focusing on Lyona.
...
"How the fuck did you know that this crazy girl was going to pop up like that?"
"I didn't," Zhen Xing admitted. "I just know the crazy motherfuckers that can make such people appear."
"Huh?"
