Kaiju No.8: Devour and Evolve

Chapter 46: If It’s a Kaiju, I’d Kill Them All

Hearing Isao Shinomiya's words, Drake Myers chuckled to himself.

Gen Narumi?

Sure, he was one of the strongest in Kaiju No. 8, but Drake's ambitions went far beyond that.

He didn't just want to dominate the Kaiju No. 8 world—he wanted to become an unrivaled existence across the entire multiverse. If achieving immortality or godhood was possible, all the better.

Isao's Visit

Isao, ever busy, only stayed for about ten minutes.

The bulk of their conversation revolved around two topics: recruiting Drake into the Defense Force and warning him to stay away from Kikoru.

Both were noble ideas—but utterly unrealistic.

Drake's interactions with Kikoru were deliberate. Her tsundere personality and unwavering support for humanity made her a reliable ally.

In the Kaiju No. 8 timeline, Kafka Hibino's generation of recruits were all dependable. They were the kind of comrades you could trust with your life—the perfect start to a classic shonen storyline.

As for the ending? Drake figured he'd deal with that when the time came.

(Isn't it rumored to go downhill? I'll stick to the anime!)

Post-Visit Reactions

After Isao left, Kikoru, Kafka, and Reno couldn't wait to rush back into the room.

All three were curious about what such a high-ranking official had discussed with Drake.

Drake, however, brushed off their questions with a wave of his hand, claiming he was tired and needed to rest.

Kikoru huffed, tossing a disdainful glance his way before leaving.

Kikoru's Drive

Since returning to Japan, Kikoru's life had revolved around training and preparation.

With her father stationed at headquarters, they rarely saw each other. This brief encounter—prompted by Drake—was the first time they'd met since her return.

Isao's feelings about his daughter were complex. He loved her deeply but was harsh in his expectations.

As a member of the Shinomiya family, she had to be strong and humble, striving to be the best in the world.

Kikoru didn't tell Drake that she was heading home. Their interactions would become less frequent as she threw herself into rigorous training, determined not to lose.

Surveillance Remains

Although most of the surveillance on Drake was lifted, a portion remained.

Drones quietly tracked his every move, ensuring no anomalies were missed.

Drake was still under suspicion, after all.

The world was vast, filled with mysteries and inexplicable phenomena.

But it was also small, inhabited by countless ordinary people.

A Quiet Evening

Kafka and Reno, enjoying a rare day off, volunteered to care for Drake.

Kafka, however, couldn't shake his guilt. After much consideration, he decided to confide in Drake about his kaiju transformation.

Still, he wanted to test the waters first.

A Chilling Conversation

As night fell, Drake woke from a peaceful nap, relishing the relief of having his identity confirmed. No longer did he need to worry about being targeted by the Defense Force.

Joining them, however? That was still up in the air.

Drake was more interested in leveraging the Defense Force's equipment to enhance his own abilities. If he wanted to establish his own faction, his current influence was far too limited.

He needed a catalyst to elevate his position.

Kafka's Question

"Drake, can I ask you something?" Kafka said, smiling as he ate.

Hearing this, Reno gulped nervously, his eyes darting between Kafka and Drake.

Kafka was a straightforward, good-hearted man—almost out of place in the modern world.

Yet his sincerity drew equally genuine people to his side.

A Loaded Question

"What's on your mind, Senior?" Drake replied, smiling as he stretched.

Thanks to his devouring ability, his physical recovery was far superior to that of an average person.

Although he wasn't capable of regenerating limbs yet, his wounds were healing steadily.

Drake was excited for the next kaiju encounter. Strength was the ultimate authority—an unchanging truth.

"What if there were a kaiju who only killed other kaiju? Would you fight them?" Kafka asked hesitantly.

A Stiff Answer

"Oh?" Drake raised an eyebrow. "You mean Kaiju No. 8?

"I saw the news. Apparently, it even saved a little girl.

"She asked the Defense Force if they could spare the good kaiju," Drake said, chuckling.

"Haha, yeah! A kaiju that kills other kaiju—it's such a cool idea!" Kafka laughed nervously, scratching his head as his cheeks flushed.

When he transformed into Kaiju No. 8, he had felt hopeless.

But hearing the little girl's heartfelt gratitude had reignited his determination.

An Unyielding Stance

"If it were me?" Drake's expression turned icy.

"If it's a kaiju, I'd kill them all."

The Air Turns Cold

The temperature in the room seemed to plummet as Drake's chilling words hung in the air.

Kafka jumped to his feet, visibly shaken.

Reno's face went pale, his nervous gaze darting toward Drake.
