Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Kiss Seals the Bond

"You—get back in there!"

Clack clack clack—three heavy locks snapped shut in a row. Liu A'dou was locked up tight, all to keep him from sneaking out again.

But for a phantom thief, that was completely useless.

So in the middle of the night, Liu A'dou slipped out once more and found Ada sitting alone, gazing at the moon.

"Long nights, restless minds—I thought I was the only one like this. Didn't expect my dear Ada-jie to be up too," Liu A'dou said, walking over. "Mind if I join you?"

"If I said I did, would you leave? Sit down. It's not like this rooftop belongs to me anyway," Ada replied.

Liu A'dou shamelessly plopped down beside her. He looked up at the sky—the moon was huge and round. "Jie, what are you thinking about?"

"Nothing," Ada said. She was simply enjoying the slow pace of life. Ever since she'd started taking missions, she hadn't had a moment this relaxing. Nothing to worry about, nothing to do, just sitting quietly under the moonlight. "This is the kind of moment where you empty your mind. You should try it."

Liu A'dou gave a bitter smile, then finally gathered his courage. "Jie, I don't think I can be like you... because there's someone I can't stop thinking about. Even when I was unconscious, she never left my mind."

Ada looked at Liu A'dou in silence.

Liu A'dou met her gaze. He knew now was the time for courage. The hymn of humanity is a hymn to courage—and this was the moment to show his.

"I've been thinking about you all this time, Ada-jie. I think I've fallen in love with you."

...

Silence.

Spring hadn't fully passed. The air was fresh. Crickets chirped softly. The moonlight was clear and bright. Nature was full of wonder.

But to break the tension, Liu A'dou's mind betrayed him with a ridiculous line from a well-known nature documentary: "Spring has come, and once again, it's mating season for the animals."

Thankfully, Ada wasn't a mind reader, so she had no idea about A'dou's mental detour.

Ada closed her eyes. That was her answer.

Thump thump— Liu A'dou's heart pounded like a war drum. His face flushed red with excitement. Ada's soft lips looked like forbidden fruit from Eden, calling to him.

He leaned in, lips puckered awkwardly.

This was love—timid, uncertain, rare, and precious. Not everyone finds someone who truly moves their heart. And since he had, Liu A'dou didn't want to miss the chance.

Even better—she accepted him.

Liu A'dou felt blessed.

And Ada was happy too. Her feelings for Liu A'dou had changed completely over the past five months—from seeing him as a clueless boy, to respecting him as a capable phantom thief, to recognizing him as a brave man. Every step along the way had won her over.

She was a moody, seductive spy, used to hiding her true self. No one ever truly understood her. Most saw her as dangerous. Only two men had ever been willing to give everything for her. One was the parted-hair cop—but he was gone. The second was Liu A'dou.

Though young, Liu A'dou had resolve. His awkwardness and maturity blended like the perfect chocolate—bittersweet and unforgettable. Even better than the parted-hair cop.

Ada liked danger. And Liu A'dou was a mystery—was he a fool, a madman, a genius, a hero? Every time he did something reckless, every time he acted silly, every time he peeked mischievously or stepped in to help someone—it all made him more irresistible.

Liu A'dou was a man of many layers. But at his core, he carried the brightest parts of human nature. His constantly changing flavor hid a soft, sweet heart—exactly Ada's type.

So when their lips met, they exchanged a taste of that sugary happiness.

When their lips parted, Liu A'dou twirled his fingers.

A pure white rose bloomed in his hand.

"For you."

So showy and mischievous—but Ada liked it. No matter how Liu A'dou changed, she could always see right through him. Deep down, he was just a big-hearted, honest boy.

The white rose was tucked behind Ada's ear. The two of them sat side by side under the moonlight, hands gently clasped together.

It wasn't until the guards discovered Liu A'dou was missing again that chaos broke out. They scrambled to search the area, and only then was Liu A'dou captured and locked up again—this time with six locks.

Wahaha. The phantom thief scoffed inwardly. These savage women had no clue how to contain someone like him.

But that night, Liu A'dou didn't escape.

He fell asleep with a smile on his face and had the sweetest dreams.

The next morning, the guards were preparing breakfast when they heard Liu A'dou's voice.

"Morning."

They turned around—and saw the door with six locks hanging wide open. Why? How? The guards were on the verge of a mental breakdown.

"I don't think you should be locking me up anymore," Liu A'dou said casually. "After all, I'm going to compete against your princess. You wouldn't want her winning under unfair conditions, right?" Not that they could keep a phantom thief locked up anyway.

"You're right. I can't keep my opponent shut in a room. You should undergo the same training to understand the ancient disciplines," Diana said, just happening to pass by and overhearing the whole thing. She nodded firmly. "Come with me."

The so-called Amazon competition included four events: long-distance running, weightlifting, sword-and-shield combat, and defensive archery.

Liu A'dou spent a day just learning the course—the long-distance run looped around the entire island. He would need a few more days for actual training. Honestly, it wasn't that bad—he'd expected something like walking through fire or scaling blades.

Queen Hippolyta silently gave her approval for the match between her daughter and this outsider. Perhaps she hoped this man would take Diana down a notch. In Amazon society, no one weak could defeat the princess. And those strong enough often held back out of consideration, letting her win too easily. As a result, Diana had grown a little arrogant.

Maybe the queen was hoping Liu A'dou could defeat her daughter and help her realize there's always someone stronger out there.

On the day of the match, every Amazonian woman showed up to watch the battle between their princess and the man. They weren't there for Diana. They weren't even there for the competition. They were there—to see the man.

After all, they hadn't seen one in over a thousand years. These women had been holding it in for a long time.

All four events were scheduled to be completed in a single day, starting at dawn and continuing until late afternoon. No breaks. No food.

Diana was brimming with confidence. She wanted to see what made this man so special. She hadn't yet become Wonder Woman, but even if her reputation as Themyscira's top warrior was slightly inflated, her skills were not to be taken lightly.

Diana was destined to slay gods, born from the grace of Hera herself. She might not be a full demigod, but she was at least one-third divine. In the Justice League, she would one day stand as a core combatant—powerful, strategic, and fearless.

"Men are nothing special. I can't believe I wasted days training for this," Diana thought, already convinced Liu A'dou was just an ordinary guy. Sure, he was male—but still just human. Beating him would be a piece of cake.

In the first event, the long-distance run, Diana quickly pulled ahead by dozens of meters.

Liu A'dou realized he had gone overboard. He really shouldn't have asked the queen for the heaviest training gear. Now he had five hundred jin—over 250 kilograms—weighing down his arms and legs.

Each step sank deep into the ground. He had to constantly use Ripple just to keep moving. But Ripple consumed energy, and the strain disrupted his breathing. Liu A'dou had to stabilize his breath even as his body teetered on collapse.

Five hundred jin. The heaviest he'd ever trained with before was fifty jin. This was ten times more, and the exhaustion was brutal.

But he hadn't taken on this burden to beat Diana.

He did it to push himself—to understand what it meant to awaken the microcosmic cosmos inside his body.

Liu A'dou was here to challenge his limits.
