Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Retreat and Kidnap!
"Not good, retreat quickly!"
Fuguki Suikazan, standing at the front, could no longer hold back and urgently called for the remaining four to flee.
Are you kidding? In less than three seconds, they'd already lost two members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen!
If they stayed here any longer, they'd all die!
However, Fuguki didn't get the response he wanted. He turned around abruptly—
Only to find that the other three had already dashed toward the beach, ready to flee across the sea.
What a bunch of cowards.
He cursed inwardly and prepared to flee himself.
Sizzle!
His eyes widened in disbelief. He looked down at the lightning-wrapped arm that had pierced clean through his chest.
"Didn't you guys just have fun kicking me around a minute ago?" a cold voice spoke from behind.
"Wh...when?" he gasped, voice trembling, full of disbelief.
How the hell did this guy appear right behind him from over a hundred meters away?
"Oh, just your bad luck—you happened to stroll right where I left my Flying Thunder God kunai earlier."
The calm, slightly amused voice made the hairs on his neck rise.
"Flying... Flying Thunder God? That's—That's the Yellow Flash's technique..."
"Yup. He's my teacher."
"So that's how it is..."
Fuguki's voice trailed off as his consciousness faded. Then—silence.
Kakashi calmly pulled his arm free and glanced ahead.
Just beyond, Ghost Lantern Chōjūrō—transformed into a massive water giant—had already been taken down by Might Duy after a brief struggle.
Poor guy. If he had just made it another thousand meters and dived into the sea, he might've slipped away in that liquefied state of his.
With the Hōzuki clan's secret technique, it would've been really tricky for Uncle Duy to catch him.
Unfortunately for him, just as he reached the shore, Might Duy caught up.
And when faced with Duy's terrifying attacks—so fast they scorched the air—even a liquefied body wasn't enough.
The water giant evaporated. Even the head vanished into mist.
Still, Chōjūrō had lasted longer than the rest. Thanks to that, Biwa Jūzō and Kurosuki Raiga had already escaped far into the distance.
"Uncle Duy, don't chase! Guy's still waiting for you!"
Kakashi quickly called out to the man now standing atop the sea. The blue vapor swirling around Duy's body hissed and sizzled.
He had opened the Seventh Gate, taken out three people, and was clearly at his limit.
If he pushed any further, they might not gain anything—and Duy would die for sure.
At the mention of Guy, Might Duy paused.
Then the blue steam faded. He swayed twice...
And fell into the sea!
"Damn it!"
Kakashi immediately dove in, pulling Duy's body back to shore.
"Summoning!"
Bang!
A two-meter-long Katsuyu appeared in a puff of smoke.
"Lord Kakashi? What is this place?"
Katsuyu looked around. The battlefield was a wreck—scorched earth, cracked rocks, and the scattered corpses of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen.
"Master Katsuyu, please assist with the treatment!"
Kakashi flipped Katsuyu gently and laid Might Duy on her back. His hands glowed green—Healing Jutsu.
Katsuyu immediately began secreting healing mucus, aiding the recovery process.
Under the glow of his chakra, Kakashi scanned Duy's condition.
All the bones in his limbs were broken. Cracks ran along his spine, sternum, and ribs.
Seriously—this guy's skeleton looked like it had been bulldozed.
Kakashi let out a low whistle. "Yikes. No wonder he's considered a legend."
Twenty years of dedication to a technique no one respected—and this was the cost.
No wonder, in the original timeline, Might Duy died kicking the Seven Ninja Swordsmen into the afterlife.
If Kakashi hadn't studied under Tsunade, even he wouldn't be able to stabilize this injury.
Good thing Duy didn't open the Eighth Gate. Otherwise, they'd already be writing his eulogy.
An hour later—
Guy arrived, panting and leading Akamichi Chōza, Uchiha Shisui, and several other Uchiha ninjas.
"Kakashi, are you alright? Where's my dad!?"
Seeing Kakashi standing upright, Guy relaxed slightly. But spotting Duy in treatment brought the panic back to his face.
"Uncle Duy opened the Seventh Gate and killed five of them. He's unconscious, but stable."
Kakashi added nonchalantly, "I handled two myself, so... let's just call it a team effort."
He didn't want to reveal how absurdly effective he'd been on the battlefield.
And when he'd visited Guy's home, with its creaky wood and half-broken furniture, everything clicked.
If Duy retired as the hero who took out five Elite Jōnin, the honors and bounties could change their lives.
Kakashi didn't care for military recognition. As for money...
Well, he liked money—but thanks to what White Fang had left behind, he wasn't exactly strapped.
"What!?"
"Might Duy killed five of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen?"
"That's insane!"
The Uchiha ninjas all began whispering among themselves.
Even for someone with Three Tomoe Sharingan, such a feat was beyond belief.
And Might Duy? Just a Genin known for catching cats and scrubbing the Hokage monument?
"No... if he opened the Seventh Gate, it's possible," said Chōza in a grave tone.
As a direct descendant of a major clan, he knew things others didn't—including the Eight Inner Gates.
At his words, the murmurs stopped. Chōza's word carried weight.
The Uchiha, proud as they were, still respected strength.
Might Duy, a man with no bloodline, had carved his legend through sheer grit. Someday, many of these Uchiha would point to him and say to their children,"Look at Duy. A commoner who became a hero. What's your excuse?"
"By the way, Guy... where's Rin?"
Kakashi suddenly asked, his expression darkening.
If she was in danger, she should've been here.
"That... that…"
Guy, usually full of energy, suddenly looked hesitant.
"What happened?"
Kakashi's voice turned sharp.
"When we were returning, we ran into another squad of Mist-nin. Rin... she took the lead and drew them away so we could escape."
Guy's voice was low with guilt.
He'd intended to take that risk himself. But before he could react, Rin had already sprinted off.
Kakashi's life had been on the line—so Guy made the call to find help first.
"WHAT!?"
Kakashi's eyes widened. His chakra flared, blood boiling.
"Kakashi, don't worry! Another team already went to search for her! She might be back at camp by now!"
Guy tried to console him—though he was trying just as hard to calm himself down.
"No... it's too late..."
Kakashi's voice dropped as he activated the Flying Thunder God's sensing.
Rin's signal...
She was far off—out at sea between the Land of Fire and the Land of Water.
A hundred kilometers away.
Too far. Well beyond his current Flying Thunder God range.
Which meant one thing.
"...Looks like it's time I paid Kirigakure a little visit."
