Kakashi Masters All Elements, Rewrites the Ninja World for Rin!

Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Infiltrating Mist

Soon, Kakashi and Shisui appeared at the dock where the captured ships were stored.

After all, to reach the Land of Water, taking a boat was the only viable option.

Unless, of course, you wanted to run across the ocean on your feet and die of chakra exhaustion halfway there.

And two random ninjas jogging across the sea like it's a casual morning jog? That would practically scream, "Please ambush us, we're lost tourists!" to the Mist Village's maritime patrol.

Once detected, the enemy would be on them faster than you could say "We screwed up."

To avoid such a scenario, Kakashi had strapped Samehada to his back and used a transformation jutsu to disguise himself as Fuguki Suikazan—also known as the Watermelon Mountain Pufferfish Ghost.

Lucky for him, the real Fuguki ran off so fast during their encounter, his own mother probably wouldn't believe he died.

As for Shisui, he transformed into a generic-looking Kirigakure Chūnin who had died during a skirmish.

After all, if "Fuguki" picked up a lackey along the way to help him sail a ship, no one would bat an eye. Elite swordsmen could do as they pleased, and rank had its privileges.

Soon, a small warship was selected and launched with Shisui at the helm.

When exactly did he learn to pilot a boat?

Was there a "How to Sail for Dummies" manual at the Uchiha compound?

Note to self: if we survive, invite Shisui to go fishing.

"Kakashi-senpai, what exactly are we going to do?"

Shisui asked while maneuvering the ship across the sea with surprising ease.

"Well, we're going to infiltrate Kirigakure and find Rin."

"So unless it's life or death, don't reveal your identity."

"Also, starting now, no real names."

"You call me Master Fuguki. I'll call you… Shun."

"If everything goes to hell and you need to call for help, just scream 'Silver Fox.' Got it?"

"Understood, Master Fuguki!"

Shisui immediately adapted to the role.

Smart kid.

If it were Obito, I'd have to repeat it five times—and he'd still probably screw it up.

And if it were Guy?

Let's not even start. That man would shout his jutsu names louder than a rock concert in the middle of a stealth op.

Enemy: "Who are you?"

Guy: "Nice try, evildoer! Behold—LEAF GREAT WHIRLWIND!"

...

Still, even smart kids like Shisui can be too trusting.

Danzo manipulated him like a puppet in the original timeline, which is honestly tragic.

There's nothing wrong with being kind—but assuming others will play fair is how you lose both eyes and your life.

Maybe after we rescue Rin, I'll take more time to keep an eye on this kid.

With the sea breeze howling around them, Kakashi stood at the edge of the deck, staring at the endless horizon, lost in thought.

...

"Master Fuguki, we've reached the shore!"

"Huh? Oh, nice job, Shun!"

Kakashi snapped out of his thoughts.

During their journey, they'd encountered several Mist patrol ships.

But as soon as they saw the giant Samehada strapped to his back and recognized the infamous Kisame, they saluted and moved along.

No one even dared to suspect a disguise.

Samehada couldn't be faked. And no one would dare imagine that the legendary swordsman had been taken down by a mere Konoha Genin.

Please. The Seven Ninja Swordsmen weren't exactly disposable.

Plus, word had already spread that Kisame was returning with urgent business for the Mizukage.

So naturally, nobody looked too closely.

"Let's go."

Kakashi stepped off the boat and onto the shore of the Water Country.

Rin, wait for me.

...

They darted through the woods at full speed, the trees blurring past.

Sunrise turned to sunset, and then back again.

They barely stopped to rest, pushing their chakra and stamina to the limit.

Finally, by the evening of the third day, Kirigakure was in sight.

The Land of Water was naturally remote, encircled by ocean. The village itself lay hidden deep within the largest island.

Its isolation, combined with the strict Blood Mist policy of the current Mizukage, made Kirigakure something of a mystery.

Even Danzo's precious Root operatives knew very little about its inner workings.

But make no mistake—Kirigakure was still strong.

At this point in time, the village hadn't yet been corrupted by Obito.

The Blood Mist system was still brutal by any measure, but it hadn't descended into pointless genocide.

Its purpose, twisted as it was, aimed to create elite ninja.

Obito's future interference would turn that brutality into chaos—but for now, Kirigakure was a sharp, deadly blade aimed outward.

And now Kakashi and Shisui were walking into it.

One wrong move, and it was game over.

"Shun," Kakashi said, gazing at the village hidden in the mist, "we might die in there. Nervous?"

"Why would I be?"

Shisui blinked, then gave a relaxed, honest smile.

"Heh. You've got guts."

"Don't worry. As long as I'm here, Kirigakure isn't stopping us."

Kakashi gave his shoulder a pat.

A flicker of power passed through that touch, and Shisui felt the weight of it.

Kakashi-senpai… had gotten stronger again.

"Master Fuguki, you've returned!"

A voice pulled them out of the moment.

It was a village guard, saluting with exaggerated enthusiasm.

"Mm."

Kakashi gave a lazy grunt, not even bothering to explain himself.

And that was fine.

From what he'd learned, Fuguki wasn't exactly a social butterfly.

He had the attitude of someone who'd drowned their empathy in a vat of shark blood.

Which meant Kakashi didn't need to put on a show.

He strode past the guard like he owned the place.

Shisui, catching on, followed a few paces behind—shoulders slightly hunched, eyes downcast, just another disposable grunt drafted into service.

The guard, seeing this, gave him a look of shared misery.

Classic lower-rank bonding.

Kakashi didn't look back, but from the change in atmosphere, he knew exactly what Shisui had done.

Details make the difference, Kakashi thought, a rare flicker of appreciation in his eyes.

With a teammate like this, I won't have to waste time cleaning up sloppy mistakes.
