Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Yagura Karatachi, Mizukage

"Shun, hurry up. We've been compromised for half an hour already."

"We could get intercepted any second."

Kakashi darted through the dense mist of the Land of Water, with Shisui trailing behind. The moment they left Kirigakure, he had been pushing hard—because the message from his clone had already arrived.

In that relay of fading memory, he'd seen those cold, glassy eyes.

Yagura Karatachi.

If Kakashi's instincts were right, the Fourth Mizukage wouldn't just sit this one out.

Think about it—if someone waltzed into your village and snatched a Tailed Beast under your nose, would you still have a job in the morning?

"Hehe… Why the rush?"

A soft voice, almost playful, rang out in front of them.

"If you came all the way to the Mist, why not enjoy our warm hospitality a little longer?"

Kakashi halted instantly, senses on high alert.

In the mist-shrouded path ahead stood a boy with seafoam green hair, eerie violet eyes, and a cross-shaped scar under his left eye. The staff in his hand twirled idly, topped with a strange flower-shaped crest.

If it weren't for the unnerving chakra and that faint murderous aura leaking off him like cologne, you'd think he was just a local school kid waiting for the bus.

"Didn't expect the Mizukage himself to show up. I'm flattered."

Kakashi's tone was casual, but his eyes stayed sharp, scanning their surroundings.

"No need to look. My men were too slow, so I got bored and came ahead."

Yagura offered an amiable shrug—like they were chatting in a marketplace, not about to kill each other.

Kakashi locked eyes with him. One thing was clear: If they couldn't get past him, there was no leaving this country.

"Shun. Take Rin and go. I'll handle him."

He didn't hesitate. Unstrapping Rin from his back, he passed her gently to Shisui.

"No, Senpai! You go—I'll stop him!"

Shisui refused instantly. This wasn't up for debate in his mind.

Kakashi exhaled through his nose. He respected that loyalty. He really did.

But they didn't have time for sentiment.

He leaned in, whispered a few quick words, and handed over a marked kunai.

"But—"

"Companions trust each other," Kakashi cut in with a rare softness.

"Now run before I change my mind and hand you Rin and the Mizukage."

Shisui understood.

He nodded, slung Rin onto his back, and dashed away in a blur.

Swish!

Yagura moved, striking downward with his staff.

Clang!

Kakashi intercepted the blow mid-air, blades sparking on contact.

Shisui vanished into the mist.

"Why resist?" Yagura said softly, withdrawing his staff. "I've already locked down the Land of Water's borders. He won't get far."

He looked genuinely disappointed—like someone had just canceled his favorite TV show.

Kakashi didn't reply at first.

Then his head tilted.

"Just out of curiosity, how old are you, really?"

Yagura blinked, a little thrown off. "Huh? Why?"

Kakashi shrugged. "You've got this terrifying dictator energy, but also the vibe of a kid who just got told he can't have dessert. It's confusing."

Yagura chuckled lightly, amused instead of offended for once.

"If I didn't know better, I'd think you were flirting."

Kakashi blinked. "Oh, sweetie, I only flirt with people who aren't trying to kill me."

"Anyway, it's getting late," Yagura said with a sigh, raising his staff.

"Let's finish this."

Water Style: Water Mirror Jutsu!

Ripples spread from the top of Yagura's staff, forming a swirling mirror of chakra-laced water.

Kakashi's own reflection stared back—except it didn't stay in the mirror.

It stepped out.

"Ah. Great. A surprise clone of me. That's not creepy at all."

Kakashi watched himself—well, Mirror Kakashi—twirl a kunai in eerie silence.

Guess that ruled out any illusions.

Time to drop the charade.

Bang!

A puff of white smoke erupted as Kakashi shed his transformation, revealing his original self.

Silver hair. Slim frame. Unimpressed expression.

"Oh? So young!" Yagura's smile returned.

"You're really just a kid…"

He wasn't lying. According to the intel from his men, the one who had massacred the Seven Ninja Swordsmen wasn't some grizzled Jōnin—but this scrawny silver-haired teen.

But that record was no exaggeration. With all seven attacking him, this boy had killed one and escaped.

Yagura knew exactly how strong the Seven were.

For this child to pull that off?

It wasn't genius—it was unnatural.

Monstrous.

A threat that couldn't be allowed to grow.

With that thought, Yagura moved, his Mirror Kakashi joining in.

"Really?" Kakashi muttered.

"You're the Mizukage. Of a major village. And you're tag-teaming a high schooler?"

"You want backup dancers too? Maybe some fog machines?"

Of course, neither answered.

"Alright. Party tricks over."

"The Third Gate—Gate of Life: Open!"

"Byakugō no In—Release."

"Sage Mode—Activate."

"Lightning Style Chakra Armor—Online."

A surge of chakra exploded around him. Veins bulged. Lightning crackled.

Ink-black runes surged across his skin. His body glowed faintly, humming with power. The diamond mark on his forehead shone like a cursed jewel.

His eyes narrowed.

Compared to the battle with the Seven Swordsmen—this time, there would be no backup from Konoha.

No Minato. No Guy.

Just him. Alone.

But unlike last time, he hadn't drained himself to the edge of death.

Thank Uncle Dai for that. The man really knew how to make an entrance—and a one-way exit.

Now, Kakashi had enough chakra left to be dangerous.

He just needed to stall.

Or kill.

Both were fine, really.

"If I win this," Kakashi muttered under his breath as lightning flared up his arms, "someone better buy me ramen for a year."

Yagura and his mirror copy lunged.

And Kakashi, smiling ever so slightly, leapt to meet them.
