Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Obito’s Return

"Shun, need a hand?"

After dealing with the two clan leaders, Kakashi turned to look at the figure dancing across the battlefield like a ghost in flames and called out casually.

"Already done with your enemies? You really live up to your name, Senior Silver Fang!"

Shisui blinked back into view, glanced over at the battlefield where Kakashi stood calmly, and instantly understood what had happened.

"In that case... looks like I can stop holding back."

There was a clear note of admiration in his voice.

Until now, Shisui had been conserving chakra, weaving through the battlefield with his Body Flicker Technique, ambushing targets with lethal precision. Dangerous, yes—but efficient.

But now, with Kakashi's situation under control, he no longer needed to hold back.

With a decision made, Shisui formed a seal with his left hand, and his right swung the blade down smoothly.

Raging flames burst to life along the edge of the sword, fanned by the wind, twisting and roaring with frightening intensity.

This was Uchiha Style: Sword Leaping Flame, a devastating fusion of Fire Release and Wind Release.

If a senior was stepping up, then he, as the junior, would bring out his best too.

"Uchiha Style: Halo Dance!"

His real body, along with eleven flickering afterimages, each released a scorching stream of flame toward the sixty remaining Kaguya warriors.

The enemy barely had time to react. The blinding halo of fire disoriented them, their vision swallowed by white-hot brilliance.

Realizing there was no time to dodge, the Kaguya clan members hardened their skin with layers of dense periosteum in a desperate defense—triggering their bloodline limit in an instinctual surge for survival.

Bones exploded from their bodies with unnatural strength.

Dead Bone Pulse: Karamatsu Dance!

But Shisui wasn't aiming for those with hardened defenses. He shifted mid-attack, targeting weaker enemies with surgical precision.

Twelve of them had no chance to react.

Twelve blazing flames struck them down from the sky, the heat burrowing into their bodies like wildfire.

They screamed.

By the time the flames consumed them, their defenses had shattered—leaving them wide open.

In that instant, Shisui's form flickered, and he appeared among them like death itself, ending their lives with ghost-like efficiency.

Kakashi nodded approvingly, arms folded, and muttered to himself.

"Remind me to ask for that recipe later… braised spareribs with extra crisp."

He cracked his neck like he was waiting for coffee to brew.

Just as he was about to step in to wrap things up and get Shisui and Rin out of there, he felt something.

One of the Flying Thunder God marks he had set—miles away—flared to life and started moving toward him. Fast.

Unnaturally fast.

Obito?

A chill passed through Kakashi's mind.

That kind of movement had to be White Zetsu's doing.

Which meant Obito… or rather, Tobi, was on the move.

Which meant… a Madara trap was probably brewing.

But then again, Rin's seal had already been broken, and the Kaguya remnants were barely a threat at this point.

What were they up to now?

Kakashi narrowed his eyes, letting his usual sarcasm fade into a low hum of caution.

He needed to prepare for the worst.

Elsewhere, underground and cloaked in darkness, Obito was pushing himself harder than ever.

Faster. Faster.

He had to reach them in time.

Kakashi. Rin. Please be safe!

"We're almost there. Kakashi and Rin are just ahead," said the curly-headed White Zetsu clone beside him.

Releasing the possession, Tobi emerged from Obito's body.

"I'll stay here," Tobi said. "Wouldn't want to ruin the reunion."

"Thanks, Tobi," Obito called, already leaping forward without a second glance.

"Kakashi! Rin! I'm here to save y—!"

He skidded to a stop mid-sentence.

There, in the open, Kakashi stood with his hands casually stuffed in his pockets, nodding in approval like a film critic judging a genin's performance. Rin was beside him, perfectly fine.

Obito blinked, following Kakashi's line of sight—only to spot Shisui effortlessly holding off a dozen Kaguya with bone mutations like it was a dance.

Despite the chaos, it was clear Shisui was in control.

Where was the danger?

Obito stood dumbfounded, a cocktail of confusion and relief washing over him.

The relief settled first—seeing his best friend alive and well caused the pressure in his chest to finally ease.

Then came... a small wave of regret.

If only Kakashi had been in danger. If only he'd arrived dramatically at the last moment—rescuing them in a blaze of glory.

Maybe then… maybe Kakashi and Rin would see him differently.

"Obito!"

Rin's voice broke through his thoughts.

In the next breath, she was in front of him—hugging him tight.

"You're finally back! I thought you had already..."

Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke.

"Welcome back, Obito!"

After she released him, Kakashi stepped forward and casually pulled him into a brief one-armed hug.

"Good timing, hero."

Obito's eyes grew moist. A thousand thoughts swirled in his head, but in the end, he could only whisper:

"...Yeah."

"Where the hell have you been?" Rin said, wiping her tears and giving him a light glare. "Tobi and I were worried sick!"

Obito scratched his head sheepishly. "Heh... it's a long story. I'll explain later."

He could hear the worry behind her words. That made him smile.

"Wait—why are you guys even here? And why is Shisui the only one still fighting?"

"Oh, that?" Kakashi shrugged.

With his usual nonchalance, he explained the situation, glossing over his own feats with typical understatement.

"Since you're back, why not kick back and watch the kids work for once? Kinda nice seeing someone else stress out on the battlefield for a change."

He patted Obito's shoulder as he spoke. He could feel the lingering sense of loss in his friend.

Obito turned quiet.

So… my place in Minato-sensei's squad… was taken by Shisui?

Logically, he understood.

If a ninja disappeared mid-battle, the village would naturally consider them dead. Replaceable.

But still...

"Heh… see? Told ya."

"You're not as special as you thought. Just a tool. One they can toss the moment you disappear."

That chilling whisper echoed in Obito's mind.

A voice he had hoped to silence…
