Chapter 90: Chapter 90: An Honest Beast – Three-Tails Isobu
After finally escaping the single life, Kakashi gently picked up Rin, and just like that, the raging storm… stopped.
A ray of warm sunlight broke through the clouds, casting golden light over the calm lake surface.
But that calm didn't last.
The moment felt too perfect. Too peaceful. And the Naruto world doesn't do peaceful for long.
Suddenly, the lake beneath them began to churn violently.
The land beneath Kakashi's feet shook, then started to rise like some kind of budget elevator.
A massive shadow rose from the center of the lake.
Kakashi narrowed his eyes.
Out of the water emerged a giant, turtle-like monster—its body as large as a mountain. Three massive tails swayed behind it, splashing water like a toddler in a tub.
So… the "island" they were standing on?
Yeah. That was the Three-Tails' shell.
"Well, that's mildly alarming," Kakashi muttered, deadpan.
"Little brat, you carry a familiar scent... what's your story?"
Isobu twisted his long neck, his voice a lazy, thunderous rumble. If a mountain could yawn mid-sentence, that's exactly how he sounded.
Familiar scent?
Kakashi's mind flicked into overdrive. He transformed his chakra briefly—first into the wild and gritty feel of Shukaku, then into the calm, composed flow of Gyūki.
"Is that what you're sniffing out, Isobu?"
He raised an eyebrow, tone casual.
"Kid… why do you have Shukaku and Gyūki's chakra?""And how do you know my name?"
For a moment, Isobu's sleepy eyes widened with pure disbelief.
Since the time the Sage of Six Paths split the nine of them, he'd only ever been referred to as the Three-Tails. This was the first time—a human—knew his actual name.
"Well~" Kakashi tilted his head, "let's just say I'm the reincarnation of the Sage of Six Paths. Inherited a few memories and all that. Believe it?"
It was a throwaway joke, really. He couldn't exactly say "Oh, saw it in a cartoon."
But Isobu's reaction was unexpected.
"I believe it."
Kakashi blinked.
Wait, seriously?
To Isobu, this wasn't far-fetched. Only his fellow tailed beasts and the Sage himself had ever known his true name. Now here came this human kid, not only calling him by name but also showing chakra of two of his siblings.
Sure, Isobu wasn't the brightest of the nine, but if Gyūki and even that raccoon rascal Shukaku accepted this guy… then he must be legit!
Kakashi scratched the back of his head.
"Well now I feel bad. Does this count as tricking an honest beast?"
He paused."…Nah. That was more of a misunderstanding. I never said I was the Sage, just… you know, reincarnation. Totally different."
Clearing his throat, he got serious again.
"Isobu, there's something you don't know. A powerful enemy is targeting all of you—the tailed beasts."
"They plan to hunt you down, one by one, and revive the Ten Tails."
"And I want to stop that."
He looked down at the unconscious Rin in his arms.
"She's my most important companion. Will you lend her your strength and open your heart to her?"
Kakashi kept his tone steady, though he was already planning how to negotiate if Isobu refused. After all, he was asking a tailed beast to trust a human again.
"…Alright."
Kakashi blinked again."You sure you're not the Tailed Beast of Plot Advancement?"
But Isobu didn't hear. In his mind, Kakashi's face had already morphed into that of the old Sage. The words of farewell from long ago echoed in his ears.
Everything just… made sense.
Meanwhile, in a quiet corner of the Pure Land...
An old man in white robes sipped tea calmly while observing the ninja world through a ripple in space-time.
Suddenly—
PFFT!
He spat out a mouthful of tea, coughing.
"What the hell?!"
Sage of Six Paths' eyes bulged.
"I've been reincarnated? Since when?!"
He looked again. Kakashi. Gray-haired ninja. Single eye. Definitely not him.
And yet… this kid had the chakra of multiple tailed beasts. And now he was impersonating him.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, the old man stroked his beard and chuckled.
"Interesting. A ninja with no special bloodline, yet mastering multiple powers and clearly understanding what he's doing…"
"Maybe the ninja world is about to get exciting again."
Back in the mortal realm—
"Then can you help me remove the tailed beast influence from Rin?"
Kakashi asked with a slight smile.
Isobu gave a lazy nod. "Already done."
Apparently, Rin's transformation had triggered due to emotional instability, not a deliberate attempt to use Isobu's power. And now that she'd been calmed by Kakashi, the connection had naturally faded.
"Thanks, Isobu."
Kakashi looked down at Rin with warmth.
"Let's go, Rin."
"…Mmm~"
Rin moaned softly.
Her face flushed as she lay in his arms, her body feeling light, her gaze meeting Kakashi's with embarrassment and affection.
Kakashi's smile curved lazily.
Cradling her, he took a confident step forward—
—and the next moment, they returned to the real world!
"Hm?"
As soon as he reappeared, a flood of memories rushed into Kakashi's head—courtesy of his now-dissipated clone.
His face changed.
Without hesitation, he took Rin's hand, activated Flying Thunder God, and appeared directly in front of Obito.
"Kakashi!"
Obito's eyes widened.
The clone had told him everything—and now he couldn't hold back.
He rushed forward and pulled Kakashi into a tight embrace.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! It's all my fault…"
Tears streamed down Obito's face. His Sharingan was deactivated, eyes red from crying and guilt.
Kakashi gently patted his back.
"It's not your fault. I saw everything through the clone. Don't beat yourself up."
His eyes, however, flicked toward the white humanoid figure lying on the ground.
Its chakra was sealed by the Four Symbols Seal. No more Earth Style jutsu for that one.
Tobi.
He had tried to forcibly take Obito back to the cave.
Now he lay defeated—sealed and silent.
Kakashi tilted his head at the motionless body and muttered:
"Not so funny without your mask now, huh?"
