Kidnapping the Heroine at the Start

Chapter 5: The Pretender Appears

"Got it. Tell the guys not to go head-to-head with him. Stay safe, and if it gets out of hand, use your weapons."

Lin Han's tone was calm and composed over the radio.

For a moment, Old Six was stunned.

Young Master… actually cares about us?

In the past, whenever assassins came knocking, Lin Han was always the first to run, never sparing a single thought for his bodyguards' lives.

This shift in attitude… felt strange.

But regardless, it was a good change.

A warmth spread through Old Six's chest, and his determination hardened.

If this guy had the guts to barge in, he must have been absolutely confident in his abilities.

And Old Six's instincts—honed through years of experience—told him this opponent was far more dangerous than any assassin or hitman they had faced before.

His hand was already hovering over his gun, ready to shoot at any moment.

Luo Bingyan had also overheard the radio conversation.

She frowned. "Are your guys up to the task?"

"You doubting my strength?"

Lin Han raised an eyebrow as he pulled a pistol from the tea table drawer, casually loading it with bullets while smiling. "You think he can block this?"

Luo Bingyan was no stranger to guns—her own security team carried them.

But as a young woman in her twenties, she didn't fully grasp their actual lethality.

She insisted, "What if even that doesn't work?"

Lin Han grinned mischievously. "Oh? You worried about my safety?"

"Don't flatter yourself!"

Luo Bingyan's face flushed slightly, but she quickly put on a cold, stern expression.

"I'm just worried about getting caught up in the mess. Honestly, I hope that scumbag kills you faster—it'd rid the world of a disaster. If that happens, I'll even throw a celebration banquet!"

Lin Han laughed. "Then I'll look forward to your banquet."

Her insults?

They were nothing to him.

Before, if she had said something like that, he would have lost his temper immediately, his face darkening with rage.

Hell, he might have even taken it out on the assassin, chopping him to pieces and desecrating his corpse.

That was the old Lin Han—petty, ruthless, and vengeful.

Now?

He couldn't even be bothered to argue back. Not worth his time.

Luo Bingyan frowned.

Something was wrong.

In the past, Lin Han would've exploded at her words.

But now? He laughed it off like it was nothing?

How?

Had he been pretending all these years?

But why would he fake being a deranged lunatic?

Luo Bingyan's head spun with confusion.

Lin Han, meanwhile, ignored her thoughts completely.

He already knew—she was just curious because she couldn't get a reaction out of him.

Smirking, he continued cleaning his Desert Eagle.

"In the basement, I've got a stash of semi-automatic and fully automatic rifles. 7.62 caliber. Even a god would get turned into swiss cheese if they walked into that.

And this guy? He's just a man."

"Oh."

Luo Bingyan responded absentmindedly.

Lin Han walked over to the window, pulling back the curtains to observe the scene below.

His fingers tapped rhythmically against the window ledge.

He was calculating—running through every possible scenario.

This was his first direct confrontation with a protagonist.

He had no idea just how strong the "Protagonist Halo" was.

Would he have a chance to kill Ye Fan now and eliminate future threats?

Luo Bingyan, curious, walked up beside him.

Seeing the chaos in the courtyard below, she scowled.

"Enemies storming your house even when you're just sitting at home… Just how many horrible things have you done, you scumbag?"

Lin Han grinned shamelessly.

"Heh, thanks for the compliment."

Luo Bingyan's glaring eyes practically screamed, "Shameless bastard!"

Down in the courtyard, the bodyguards stood their ground, tense and ready.

They weren't reckless—they didn't charge in blindly.

Meanwhile, Ye Fan stepped out of the car with a bright, carefree grin.

There was no fear in his eyes.

Instead, they burned with excitement.

"Hello, everyone~" Ye Fan smiled casually, as if he were just dropping by for tea.

"Relax, I'm just here to rescue someone."

His cheerful tone was a complete contrast to the fact that he had just rammed a car through the gates.

Like he was just paying a friendly visit.

Lin Han's eyes narrowed.

This f*cker is asking to be punched.

If it weren't for his protagonist plot armor, this kind of behavior would've gotten him killed 800 times already.

"Eh?"

Luo Bingyan squinted at Ye Fan, finding him… somewhat familiar.

At this point in the story, she had barely interacted with him—only catching glimpses of him in the company.

She had seen him a few times, but never paid much attention.

"Hmm? You know him?"

Lin Han pretended to act surprised.

Luo Bingyan brushed her bangs aside, thinking for a moment.

"I think he works at my company… Oh! That's right! He's a security guard. His name is… Ye something… Ye…?"

"Ye Fan?" Lin Han "helpfully" reminded her.

"Yes! Ye Fan!"

Luo Bingyan suddenly remembered, then turned to Lin Han in confusion.

"Wait… how do you know him? And why is he coming after you?"

Lin Han smirked.

"Oh, I knew his name… but I didn't know he was working as a security guard for you. Damn, girl. You sure have some guts, hiring a guy like that."

Luo Bingyan frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Lin Han said nothing.

Instead, he grabbed a stack of documents from his desk and handed them to her.

"With the Lin family's intelligence network, finding someone's real identity is a piece of cake.

And let me tell you…

This guy isn't some 'small-time security guard'.

He's actually the leader of a notorious mercenary group from the Middle East.

He's killed hundreds of people.

As for why he's targeting me?

Probably because I'm too handsome, and he's jealous."

Lin Han smirked, rubbing his chin.

That part…

Was actually true.

Ye Fan wasn't ugly.

But next to Lin Han?

He was a solid second place.

Luo Bingyan shot him a side-eye.

This guy is way too narcissistic.

But as she flipped through Ye Fan's dossier, her expression grew colder and colder.

There was a ruthless mercenary hiding in her company… and she had no clue.

This crossed a line for her.

No way in hell was Ye Fan working a security job for fun.

He was clearly after something.

In the original plot, she would have forgiven Ye Fan after he heroically saved her.

But now?

There was no kidnapping.

No rescue.

Her perspective on him had completely changed.

Lin Han smirked.

Ye Fan was still down there, showing off, completely unaware that the woman he was so desperate to "save"…

Had already written him off as a threat.
