Killed by the Hero. Reincarnated for Revenge... with a Lust System

Chapter 7: The Revenant’s Squad

The day had risen without me.

I left Althéa's tent in silence, shirtless, my shirt in hand. The air still bit, thick with moisture. A pale mist crawled between the tents like a faceless beast. The camp was half-asleep. But me, I was already far away.

Behind me, she didn't move. Not a word. Not a breath. Just her scent on my skin, her cum on my thighs, and that voice, again, vibrating at the base of my neck.

"You're even better in bed than on the battlefield…"

Lie.

I wasn't good in bed. I just wanted her to remember. To never be able to see me again without feeling my fingers on her throat.

I shoved on my shirt roughly. It stuck to dried blood, to cum, to sweat. I didn't take the time to wash it.

Kal was waiting for me at the edge of the officers' quarter. Standing, upright, his restored shield strapped to his back. He gave me a brief glance, then nodded. Not a word. But I knew what it meant.

He had seen me go in. And he saw me coming out.

Further off, Irla was walking between two rows of tents, a bucket of water in hand. She noticed me. Hesitated. Her gaze slid over me, then she lowered her eyes. No smile. No reproach. But her cheeks were red.

She knew too.

I kept walking.

A sentry stopped me at the entrance of the main square. A girl, no older than Irla.

"Message from General Kaerys," she said, handing over a sealed letter.

I took the envelope. Gray vellum. Black wax. The seal of the double-headed eagle.

I broke the seal with my thumb, unrolled the letter. A few lines, handwritten.

"Appointment confirmed. 11 soldiers under your command. Three days to make them a unit. No failure will be tolerated."

At the bottom, a red-ink signature. Kaerys.

I looked up at the horizon. The mist was starting to lift. The sun was slowly climbing above the tents, baring its first fangs.

Three days. That was little. Too little. But it was all I needed.

[DING — System]

Main Mission: Form a loyal combat coreObjective: unite the 11 squad membersTime limit: 72 hoursReward: +500 Points

I didn't smile. Not even inside. I wasn't surprised.

The system had understood before I did. It wasn't a luxury. Not a comfort feature. It was a blade. Simple. Fierce. Absolute. And I was going to use it.

I folded the letter and tossed it into a brazier as I passed. Then I headed down to the training yard. The men had been chosen—I planned to break them, one by one, before rebuilding them in my image.

The training yard was still empty when I arrived.

A packed-dirt ground, surrounded by wooden targets, a basin of stagnant water, shattered mannequins, and a circle of spears stuck in the earth. In the center, a small fire still smoked. It hadn't been rekindled.

Perfect.

The four veterans were already there, standing. Kal, shield secure on his shoulder. Roud and Alik, leaning against a low wall, tired but alert. Irla, upright, hands clasped behind her back, hair tied hastily. She didn't dare look at me.

I nodded. They responded with brief gestures. No need for words. I had already tested them.

But the other seven…

They arrived in a scattered line, without order. Some were still chewing their morning rations. Others looked fresh out of bed. Only one walked with her spine straight, already looking ready to bite.

I observed them.

A dark, slender, curvy silhouette, slanted eyes, dark skin:Myrr. Dark elf. Archer. Tattooed face. Leather bra, bare stomach. A gaze like a dagger in the throat.

A bald colossus, ox-like shoulders, arms covered in scars:Goran. Mute, according to his file. But his fists spoke enough.

A girl with a flushed face, oversized cloak, burned hands:Sae. Fire mage. Clearly unstable. She held a grimoire too large for her. She struggled to keep up.

A priestess in a slit robe, long milky hair, soft smile, dead eyes:Nara. Blood magic. Calm aura, but disturbing. She walked barefoot.

A lean guy, platinum blond, eagle-like eyes behind round glasses:Yulrik. Strategist. The type to analyze your shadow before addressing you.

A scout in a short cape, bare-chested under a cloth breastplate, sabers at her hips:Tessa. Pirate style, mischievous gaze. She was chewing on a mint stalk.

And finally… him.

Derek.Average build, determined jaw, old scar across his forehead. Not young. Not impressed. Not happy to be here.

He looked at me like a messenger of bad news.

I didn't speak immediately.

I slowly walked around them. One step at a time. My boots crushed the gravel. I brushed a spear planted in the ground. It vibrated under my fingers.

No one moved.

"Three days," I said.

My voice was calm. Almost low. But each word cut.

"Three days for your bodies to endure. Your minds to obey. And your reflexes to kill. Not to become heroes. Just to survive what's coming."

I faced them.

"From now on, you're mine. All of you. Until I give you back. And I rarely do."

Silence.

Then a voice from the back.

"You got a vow prepared, or is this just to make us hard?"

Derek.

He was smiling. A little smirk. Arms crossed. Tone mockingly casual.

I didn't answer.

I stepped toward him.

He didn't move.

"Seriously, Lieutenant…? Three days? Is this dark humor or just ego? I've been led by brats before, but at least they wore clean uniforms."

Kal clenched his fists. Irla looked down. Roud raised his head.

I looked at him silently.

Then I stood right in front of him. A breath away.

And I hit.

One punch.

Closed fist. Right in the face.

His nose exploded on impact. He fell backward, collapsing like a felled puppet.

A trickle of blood ran from his lips. He brought a hand to his face, groaned, tried to get up.

I planted my foot on his sternum.

"Got something to say about my uniform?"

He looked at me, eyes wide.

I leaned in. Close enough for him to feel my breath.

"You wanna know if I can make you hard, Derek?"

A nervous laugh rose to the right. Myrr. Not mocking. More… intrigued.

I straightened, pulled my foot away.

Derek rolled to the side. Spat some blood.

I turned to the others.

"First test passed. Now you know what to expect."

I scanned the line.

"If you've got a problem with me, now's the time. If you think you can do better, show it. Here. In front of the others. But starting tomorrow… I want you united. Aligned. Ready to die together. Or fuck the enemy until they cry."

Silence.

Then a notification, cold and sharp, crossed my mind.

I exhaled slowly.

The system didn't speak much. But it knew when I was winning.

I threw one last glance at Derek, who was slowly getting up.

"Welcome to the squad, soldier."

I made them run.

Not to test their breath. To break their ego.

Full loop around the camp, in light armor. Twice. No water. No pause. The sun had barely risen, but sweat was already beading on necks.

Kal held pace without flinching. Roud and Alik followed, arrows bouncing in their quivers. Goran ran like a wounded bull, muscles bulging, nostrils flared. Sae stumbled on the first climb. Irla caught her without thinking.

I said nothing. I took notes.

By the third loop, Derek was limping. Myrr had stripped down halfway, running in a leather bra, her breasts bouncing with every step. A way to provoke? To cool down? Both, probably.

I stopped the group.

They were panting, legs like jelly. Red faces, open mouths. I lined them up.

"That was just the warm-up."

Grumbles. Tessa spat on the ground. Goran didn't flinch. Yulrik was still observing me like a logical puzzle.

I pointed at the basin.

A pool of stagnant water. Not too deep. Wide enough to half-drown them.

"One by one. Hold your breath. Two minutes. If you panic, it's ten more laps."

They hesitated.

I sent Kal in first. He dove without a word.

The others followed.

Some cheated on the time. Others cheated on the fear. But they did it.

Sae took too long to get in. She was trembling.

I stepped up.

"You want to stay alive, mage?"

She nodded.

"Then move."

She dove. One leg out of the water, her back stiff.

Twenty seconds later, she surfaced, choking, coughing violently.

"That was shit," I said.

She lowered her head. Drops slid from her lashes.

I turned on my heel.

Later, I had them crawl through mud, climb over spike hedges, carry Goran for a hundred meters, and chain duel with one arm tied. Not to improve technique.

To confront their weakness.

Myrr refused to pair with Kal for a balance drill.

"I don't work with a guy who clings like a horny dog."

I looked at her.

"Fine. Hand-to-hand combat. Here. Now."

Kal frowned.

"Sora, that's not—"

"Got a problem with the order?"

He fell silent.

They faced off.

She was already smiling.

First exchange. Myrr struck at the throat, tried a sweep. Kal absorbed it, blocked, shoved her. She slipped. Caught herself. Tried to bite. He grabbed her by the waist, slammed her to the ground, knee on her chest.

She growled, struggled.

"Yield?" I asked.

She spat. But said nothing.

He let go. She stood, covered in mud, hair stuck to her forehead. Her eyes met mine. No hatred.

Hunger.

She had just accepted the rules.

At nightfall, I made them kneel.

Not for a ritual. Out of necessity.

They were dirty, exhausted, some on the verge of collapse. But they held.

Irla had a cut on her arm. Roud had a sprained wrist. Sae stared at the ground like she was about to vomit. Goran stood without shaking, but his chest bled slightly. Nara, strangely, was still smiling.

I walked among them. My voice was hoarse, but steady.

"I didn't choose you to be perfect."

I passed in front of Derek. His face was swollen, his mouth split.

"I chose you because you can be broken."

I stopped in front of Sae. She was shivering.

"Because those we break… we can rebuild."

I let a silence pass.

Then I said:

"At ease."

They collapsed, one by one, onto the cold ground.

I looked at the faces on the ground. The muddy bodies. The hearts still beating.

They were at their limit.

But not broken.

Not yet.
