Chapter 76: Chapter 76: I Don’t Want to Be a Knight Anymore!
Finally, Arthur arrived.
Morgan was always a fool for excuses, but whenever he saw her face, Arthur never refused her requests.
Not out of pity or sympathy—he simply didn't want to reject her.
Morgan le Fay, eldest princess of Camelot, was in truth a deeply insecure woman.
Something like this had happened before. When Arthur had rejected her and she feared abandonment, Morgan had been shaken to her core, nearly doing something irreversible. Only then had Arthur truly understood the witch's nature.
It wasn't evil—just a desperate desire not to be hurt, a subconscious retreat from the outside world.
Now Morgan regarded him as her only spiritual support. How could Arthur refuse?
The group soon reached the old city of Camelot.
Though destroyed by Arthur's own sword, the old castle and city still held value.
The northern wall had been repaired, buildings cleared, and civilians barred entry. It was now a state-owned grain plantation and a research institute for the magician group. The magical attire spreading from Camelot and the food sustaining the kingdom were produced here.
Security was tight.
"Sister, I know your skill in potions is unmatched. But this time, it's not about crafting a high-performance miracle elixir. The requirement is a potion that can be mass-produced and is harmless to the human body. Are you sure about this? Sir Lancelot is an important warrior for Camelot."
Arthur voiced his concerns for Lancelot's safety.
"Trust me, little Arthur. Have I ever let you down?" Morgan smiled confidently.
But the smile did little to ease Arthur's worries.
He'd been disappointed by Morgan's naive nature more than once.
And this time, potion development was fully entrusted to her—without the supervision of Manaka or Merry.
Could Lancelot really avoid being poisoned to death?
Sighing, Arthur said no more. He could only pray that fate favored Lancelot.
Inside the institute, Arthur exchanged greetings with magicians, then saw the lively Lancelot.
To better document the experiment, Lancelot had been given two days off. As expected, by his side stood Guinevere, clearly accustomed to life in Camelot. Her only grievance was not seeing Arthur daily.
Upon spotting Arthur, Guinevere immediately grew excited.
Inevitably, an argument broke out between her and her husband.
"Guinevere, mind your manners before my king!"
"Quiet, you foolish knight! You should be humble before His Majesty! And move aside—you're blocking my view!"
"You woman—"
"What? Want to fight? I'm ready anytime!"
"You don't think I dare lay a hand on you?"
"Haha~ You struck a lady. Are you still Arthur's knight? If I were you, I'd return to France and never set foot in Britain again. You're a disgrace to His Majesty. If you know what's good for you, just end it now."
"What did you say?!!!"
Arthur sighed at the couple, both instantly losing their minds at his arrival. As expected, he thought, and quickly averted his gaze.
"See? I told you it was better if I hadn't come."
"Don't say that, little Arthur. We haven't spent much time together recently," Morgan said nonchalantly.
Compared to potions and experiments, being with Arthur mattered more to Morgan.
If she didn't sincerely want to help him, she wouldn't work in this institute given his busy schedule.
Arthur chose to pretend he hadn't heard.
When he looked up again, he froze at the sight of a figure.
"Eh? Queen Sister Artoria?"
"Arthur?"
Artoria blinked, stunned as well.
They hadn't seen each other for nearly half a year and each marveled at the changes.
Arthur's face no longer carried exhaustion, but a relaxed ease.
Artoria no longer radiated her former heroic bearing, instead showing a softness—and physically, she'd matured, though not drastically.
But more important than their changes in appearance—
"Why are you here?" Arthur tilted his head.
If memory served, the institute housed only magicians and test subjects.
Had Morgan finally ensnared Artoria to study the red dragon factor?
No, that couldn't be. Though a bit harsh, Merry cared deeply for her disciples.
"I've given up on being a knight. I'm a magician now."
"What?!"
"As Merlin's disciple, isn't it natural to become a magician? Why are you surprised?" Artoria pouted.
Such an expression would never have appeared before, but now it came so easily.
It seemed she had accepted her identity as a princess.
"No, why this sudden change?" Arthur felt like he was dreaming.
A melee magician was one thing, but Artoria—princess with the red dragon gene, capable of slapping him away with ease—coming to compete with magicians?
What was she thinking?
"Well, I used to be obsessed with knighthood because that was all I trained for since childhood. But the more I honed my sword, the more I realized pure strength couldn't bring true happiness to the people. From years as a squire, I learned knights had limits. So I've decided, Arthur—I won't be a knight anymore!"
Why did this sound so strange?
Was she also Master DIO now?
"Um, becoming a magician is a good choice. At least now you look more like a true princess of Camelot," Arthur nodded awkwardly.
"Are you complaining I didn't act like a princess before?" Artoria chuckled.
The once meticulous knight girl now joked freely.
Arthur and Kay exchanged smiles.
They had once shared a wish—that even if forced, Artoria should live a normal girl's life.
Perhaps she'd never be an ordinary person, but compared to the cold king she was meant to be, this was happiness.
"I'm glad you figured it out."
"Thank you, Brother Kay." Artoria spoke sincerely, then turned to Arthur.
"Thank you too, Arthur."
She hugged him tightly.
"I know you aren't my father's son, but you will be a good king. Thank you for standing and changing Camelot. It's something I couldn't do."
The determined girl who once refused defeat finally admitted her failure—and with it, found peace.
