King Arthur Won't Die by Accident

Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Here Begins the Double Trouble

Once people have free time, they start thinking about unnecessary things.

This probably described Arthur's current state perfectly. Free from the burden of managing state affairs, he suddenly had far too much time to… tinker.

Like now, for example, as he sat alone, playing with a strangely shaped knife.

At a glance, it looked plain—no ornate engravings, no radiant magical aura. The only unusual feature was its blade, which curved so severely that its tip nearly touched the hilt, forming a perfect ring.

"A crescent moon scimitar? No… this is—"

Arthur was speechless.

And also a little helpless.

As everyone knew by now, the system was hopelessly lazy when it came to item descriptions. No instructions. No labels. No explanation.

This so-called Separation Blade was no exception. Useless? Perhaps. But it was issued by the system, and it did carry the rather ominous word "separation." Useful? Maybe. But no one knew how.

It looked like a weapon—sharp, sleek—but it had been categorized as an "item." That meant… what, exactly?

Arthur was tempted to test it out. But trying an obviously dangerous prop on a living human felt… a bit too cruel.

He valued his subordinates. Even prisoners had responsibilities—value.

And if something went wrong and someone died?

That wouldn't be good.

Just as Arthur was lost in thought, a familiar flash of golden light passed through his vision.

"Here it comes again…" he murmured, covering his eyes with one hand.

He'd seen this before.

Judging by prior experience, he had awakened some kind of precognitive ability. Something akin to Clairvoyance EX, which only the highest-tier magi possessed. Yet Arthur had never even studied magic theory.

It didn't make sense.

He wasn't convinced it was true Clairvoyance—there was no theoretical foundation. But the signs were hard to ignore. Over the past few years, his vision had become sharper. He could see more clearly, even grasp the underlying structure of some magical phenomena just by looking.

Either way, compared to unraveling the mysteries of precognition, the blade in his hand seemed more urgent.

Arthur silently began counting in his mind.

3, 2, 1—

The door creaked open exactly on cue, and Merry stepped in with a cheerful glint in her eye.

"My king~☆ Big sister's here to play with you—"

Thunk.

Without hesitation, Arthur hurled the knife straight at her.

After all, if a test subject was needed, better it be Merry. Even if the worst happened—injury or even death—there was no emotional burden.

She was immortal, wasn't she?

Just a little knife. What's the worst it could do?

Arthur thought so.

What he didn't notice was that the knife, thrown with all his strength, sliced through the air with a sonic boom, trailing golden light unmistakably infused with the power of the Holy Sword of the Stars.

In the next moment, Merry felt a flash of light—then, tearing pain.

Click~

With a crisp sound, her body split cleanly in two, each half falling gracefully to either side.

Yes, Merry had been bisected.

There should have been gore.

Instead, flower petals drifted through the air, lending the scene a strange and surreal beauty.

But the fact remained—she had been split in half.

Arthur stared, stunned.

"…Did that really work?"

So this was the true meaning behind Separation?

It wasn't just metaphorical. This blade could literally split something—or someone—in two.

The next moment, something even stranger happened.

"Ohh~! My king, I finally get to see you again! Two whole years! I missed you soooo much!"

"Kyaa~! Finally got rid of that filthy half! Now my king belongs to me alone!"

Two figures—one in front, one behind—tackled Arthur in a teary, snot-filled reunion hug.

Wait. What? What was happening?

Wasn't that Merry just now?

Why did it turn into Merlin?

Wait, no—Merry hadn't disappeared. Merlin had appeared as well.

In other words…

There were now two Merlins.

Two.

Double the pain. Double the chaos. Double the trouble.

Arthur's face darkened.

This… this was the end.

With twice the Merlins (Lee), and twice the level of absurdity, there was no hope left for Camelot.

Arthur tried to wriggle free, but the twins were relentless. They smeared tears and snot across his clothes, the damp fabric clinging in all the wrong places.

So gross! You bastards!

And yet, by pure accident, Arthur had discovered the true function of the Separation Blade.

Its effect was to split a single being into two opposing facets—good and evil, calm and violent, male and female. Separate identities, distinct personalities.

That's what should have happened.

Normally, it would never work on two separate people.

In theory, it shouldn't have worked on Merlin (Lee) at all.

But Merlin (Lee) had… unusual qualifications.

First, as a succubus, their gender was fluid—male or female, both were natural states.

Second, due to his past and the enchanted collar, Merlin (Lee) had developed two distinct gendered personas: the original Merlin, shaped by memory and upbringing, and the newer, emotionally fixated Merly, formed under Arthur's influence.

Both shared the same body, but were undeniably separate personalities.

Thus, by sheer coincidence, Merlin (Lee) had fulfilled the impossible conditions—and the blade worked.

Now, instead of one nuisance, Arthur had two.

"This is it! This is the end! Camelot's doomed!"

His eyes locked onto the blade he had thrown earlier, still embedded in the floor.

If the Separation Blade caused this, perhaps the inverse could fix it.

Reverse engineering the magic with Manaka's help might allow him to recombine the twins.

It was the only hope!

Arthur's gaze burned with desperate resolve.

But then—

The blade shimmered once.

And disappeared into a point of light.

…It was single-use?!

"Wait, no—let go! Calm down! Don't come any closer! What are you doing?! Don't come near me!!!"

"My~ my~! His Majesty's getting shy! That just makes him cuter~! Brother Merlin, are you moved~?"

"Oh, terribly. I've never seen our king so flustered before. It's completely awakened something in me. My king, you naughty little tease~☆!"
