Chapter 35: Chapter 35 : Potatoes and Pork Ribs

Hagrid took Anduin on a tour of the vegetable garden around his hut, where a wide variety of vegetables were grown. However, according to Hagrid, only some of them needed to be supplied to Hogwarts because Professor Pomona Sprout had a large greenhouse that was enchanted with an Undetectable Extension Charm, and it contained enough ingredients to fully supply Hogwarts for daily use.

"Every year, I plant lots of pumpkins before Halloween. Dean Sprout comes by to cast 'Engorgement Charms' on them for the Halloween feast. And look at these beautiful broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes, ginger, and cabbages. Aren't they growing well?" Hagrid proudly showed Anduin his vegetable garden.

In Anduin's eyes, what Hagrid grew were mostly Western vegetables; he couldn't even spot a single cabbage. Anduin wasn't particularly interested in that, so he asked Hagrid about the topic that intrigued him most.

"Don't you grow any herbs here?" Actually, Anduin had another plan when he came to Hagrid's place—he wanted to see if he could get some potion ingredients. If there was a reliable source for herbs, that would be even better.

"Herbs? Aren't there plenty of those in the greenhouse? You know, many herbs are very dangerous. If you're not a professional at growing them, they can even be deadly." Hagrid didn't understand why Anduin asked, but he answered honestly anyway.

"Is that so? What about the Forbidden Forest? Are there herbs there?" Anduin looked up, and not far from Hagrid's hut was the edge of the Forbidden Forest. He asked thoughtfully.

"Yes, there are many herbs in the Forbidden Forest. Not long ago, I saw quite a few mandrake fruits about to ripen. However, there are many dangerous magical creatures deep inside the forest. Hogwarts also maintains several colonies of magical creatures there, like a hippogriff colony. Approaching them carelessly can be very dangerous." Seeing Anduin's interest, Hagrid kindly warned him.

"Understood, Hagrid. Don't worry, I'm just a little curious. Let's not talk about that anymore. Let's get some tomatoes and ginger, oh, and potatoes. I'll show you my skills. It's been a while since I had a proper meal."

Anduin thought to himself, planning to go back and study Potions, choose some with simple ingredients, and see if he could get some materials from the Forbidden Forest.

Anduin and Hagrid gathered some vegetables and went inside. Anduin planned to prepare a rib dinner. Fortunately, although the ribs of the magical Tebo Warthog were very large, Hagrid's pot was also quite big.

Anduin touched and prodded the huge slab of ribs, then nodded. The meat of this magical creature was very tough but, like dragon meat, it didn't spoil easily. It was also frozen with a Freezing Charm, and bloodstains could still be seen between the bones.

"It seems I can't use ordinary stir-frying methods, and getting it to taste good will be a big problem." Anduin pondered over the ribs. One rib was as thick as a person's arm, which made him think about how to make it flavorful.

That slab had eight long ribs. Anduin and Hagrid couldn't eat that much in one meal, so Anduin asked Hagrid to help cut off two ribs. Then he repeatedly used the Severing Charm to cut the ribs into small pieces. After washing them, he found a large basin and put them inside. Anduin personally mixed a big bowl of seasoning and poured it into the basin to marinate the ribs.

After several rounds of marinating, he lit the fire. Hagrid's house had a large pot, like a round cauldron without legs. Anduin set up the pot, poured in oil, ginger, and garlic, then added the large basin of ribs to stir-fry. After stir-frying until fragrant, he added water to cover the ingredients, put the lid on, and waited.

Hagrid, watching Anduin's cooking, couldn't help but feel a little excited. But when Anduin put the meat to stir-fry, the aroma made his mouth water uncontrollably.

Hagrid peeled potatoes nearby, eagerly anticipating the meal, while Anduin had already covered the large pot and came over to help and chat.

"Hagrid, do you think you could give me a plot of land next to your vegetable garden? I want to plant something too." Anduin asked with a smile.

"Of course, no problem! I can help you with whatever you want to grow. Just come over whenever you're free." Hearing this, Hagrid had no reason to refuse, thinking he'd surely have good food to eat in the future.

The large pot of ribs gave off an endless aroma, constantly tempting the two in the room. After cooking for over an hour, Anduin tasted the saltiness. Seeing that the ribs were mostly tender, he added the potatoes, onions, and other ingredients, poured in a bit more water, and continued cooking for nearly another half hour.

Soon, the large pot of potato-stewed ribs was ready. Upon lifting the lid, the bright sauce was bubbling inside. Anduin and Hagrid couldn't resist any longer. Each served themselves a large bowl and began to eat heartily.

"Ah, comfortable . . ." Anduin rubbed his round belly, sitting contentedly to the side. It had been a while since he had eaten something good. The food at Hogwarts actually tasted decent, but the dishes were very simple. Only these British people could tolerate eating that every day.

Hagrid, on the other hand, was still feasting, praising Anduin's cooking skills as he ate. Anduin also smiled with great satisfaction; having someone appreciate his cooking was a kind of happiness too.

While Hagrid finished, Anduin borrowed paper and a pen from Hagrid's house and started drawing and writing. Soon after, Hagrid contentedly drank the last bit of soup, and the two sat at the table chatting about everyday things.

Time passed quickly. They had spent a long time cooking and eating. Anduin saw that it was already dark outside and, upon checking the time, realized it was close to curfew, so he prepared to say goodbye to Hagrid.

"Hagrid, are you going to Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley soon?" Anduin asked.

"I'll be going to Hogsmeade in a few days to buy some things, why?" Although Hagrid didn't know why Anduin asked, he answered honestly.

"Do me a favor, please. Can you help me gather the current selling prices of potions, as well as the current buying prices of herbs? Also, could you help me get one of these made by a craftsman?" Anduin hadn't forgotten his big potion plan. He wanted to check the current potion market and also handed Hagrid a piece of parchment, which was exactly the one Anduin had just drawn inside.

On the paper was a drawing of a large iron pot and a spatula. Anduin had also marked specifications like size, diameter, and thickness.

"What is this?" Hagrid asked, looking at the item on the paper.

"This is a cooking utensil, for cooking. With this, I can make some other delicious things here at your place." Anduin explained.

Hagrid, upon hearing that, readily agreed to help. As for the potion prices, although Hagrid wasn't sure what Anduin planned, he also agreed gladly.
