Chapter 52: Chapter 52 : Christmas Dinner
Sirius Black, noticing Anduin's great interest, even sent him a copy of "Applied Rune Connections" as a Christmas gift. The book contained numerous techniques for establishing Floo Networks. After reading it, Anduin felt as if he had discovered a real treasure. Lately, Anduin had been studying ancient runes, and the book offered plenty of material for him to practice and learn from.
"So, this is Snape?" Anduin was flipping through Sirius Black's photo album, which held a group photo from his school years. It didn't look like a graduation picture, but rather one taken during some event.
"That's right. This was taken at Professor Slughorn's Slug Club. Look, this is Avery, this is Dolohov, and this is Snape. You should remember their faces and be careful if you ever run into them." Sirius Black introduced the people in the photo to Anduin in detail.
But what caught Anduin's attention most was Snape. He had a sixth-year potions textbook signed "The Half-Blood Prince." When he discovered the Sectumsempra curse written in it, Anduin had basically confirmed that "The Half-Blood Prince" was indeed Snape. Judging by the notes in the book, Snape's potion skills must have been exceptionally strong.
In the photo, Snape looked very young, his black hair slightly longer than Anduin's current length. His eyes appeared melancholic and somewhat calm. It was hard to imagine what this person would look like smiling.
The following day, it was time to attend the Christmas dinner. Anduin dressed in light gray tailored trousers, a dark-ink French-style shirt, and a short silver-gray velvet waistcoat. Around his neck was a narrow tie with bright silver and black stripes, perfectly matched to his slim, long light gray velvet coat. His hair was meticulously styled as well, giving him an energetic look. If one overlooked his height—barely five feet tall—he resembled a charming young adult.
On the other hand, Sirius Black was also dressed formally, but without a tie. Instead, he had loosened his shirt collar, giving him a rakish, effortlessly handsome air.
"So, you're telling me I have to ride your broken-down motorcycle to the party?" Anduin had originally assumed he and Sirius would visit the Potters' home using Apparition or the Floo Network, but when Sirius showed off his motorcycle, he realized he was mistaken.
"Haha, I have to let Potter and Lupin see my little baby. Don't worry, I've put an Undetectable Extension Charm on the trunk, it can hold all your gifts." Sirius Black laughed as he stroked his beloved motorcycle, making Anduin feel slightly disgusted.
Anduin had no choice but to sit in the sidecar, muttering silently to himself: 'I finally styled my hair, and you couldn't care less about your wild mane, but if you ruin my hairstyle, I swear I won't forgive you'.
Thus, Sirius Black took off with Anduin, flying across the sky toward Godric's Hollow. In the air, Anduin repeatedly used the Shield Charm in front of him to fend off the biting wind and protect his hairstyle at the same time.
Godric's Hollow was located in the southwest of England and was a semi-wizard settlement. England had many such semi-wizard communities, but only one village entirely inhabited by wizards: Hogsmeade. Although many wizards lived in Godric's Hollow, they still couldn't openly use magic in front of muggles.
Sirius Black piloted the motorcycle with Anduin, landing on the street in front of a large house. He then removed the vehicle's concealment charm and happily parked it in the open space next to the house.
But at that moment, Anduin couldn't bring himself to laugh. Even though he had done his best to protect it during the ride, the cold wind had inevitably tousled his carefully styled hair. Now he could only try to smooth it down with his hands, resulting in his former shoulder-length hairstyle again.
Anduin glared at Sirius Black resentfully, but Sirius just shrugged nonchalantly and said with a grin, "Stop fussing with your hair. Don't you think this look suits you better? Carefree, elegant, like me".
'I don't want to look like you. That's exactly why I put so much effort into . . . Never mind. Saying more will only make me feel worse'.
Sirius Black led Anduin to the Potters' front door and knocked. Lily appeared, her long dark red hair falling gracefully over her shoulders. She smiled warmly at them as soon as she saw them.
"Welcome, Sirius Black, Anduin. You're late, everyone else has already arrived".
Of course, if Sirius hadn't insisted on taking his battered old motorcycle, they wouldn't have wasted so much time on the road. Anduin couldn't resist shooting Sirius another reproachful glance.
"Haha, early or late, what's the difference? It's been so long, Lily, and you're even more beautiful than before." Sirius Black spoke lightly, with his usual charm.
Anduin also replied politely, "Merry Christmas, Mrs. Potter, and thank you for inviting me to your dinner".
Lily smiled at him kindly and said, "Just call me Lily. I felt a sense of closeness to you the first time we met. And besides, you saved Sirius Black, so of course you're our friend. Come in and warm yourself by the fire, it's freezing out here."
"Could you stop saying this kid saved me? If he hadn't popped up out of nowhere, I would've taken care of those two idiots ages ago," Sirius grumbled.
Lily didn't respond to that, only smiled gently at Anduin and led them inside.
The Potters' home was warmly decorated. Under the soft glow of enchanted candles and oil lamps, the house felt bright and cozy. A group of people was already seated in the living room, including James Potter, whom Anduin had met before. Next to him sat a young man dressed in an old-fashioned style and a short, stout young man.
Across from them sat a couple who appeared to be husband and wife. One was Frank Longbottom, whom Anduin remembered meeting before, Frank had been responsible for escorting him to the Leaky Cauldron in Knockturn Alley. Anduin recalled that he was an auror, so the woman beside him must have been his wife.
"James, Remus, Peter, haha, Merry Christmas!" Sirius Black spread his arms wide as he entered, embracing his friends one by one.
"Frank, Alice, I didn't expect to see you here too. Tonight really is lively." Sirius greeted the Longbottoms enthusiastically.
The Longbottoms rose with cheerful smiles to shake Sirius's hand. Frank then said, "Dumbledore suggested our families spend Christmas together this year. Harry and Neville were born only a day apart, so it's good for the little ones to play together. Alice and my mother both thought it was a wonderful idea, so we came along."
