Konata Doesn't Want To Be The Female Lead

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Grueling Entrance Exam… Probably

Before today, Tokikono Konata had actually given some serious thought to how she could shake things up during U.A.'s entrance exam. Maybe she could lock in the heroine role early, block the classic "hero saves the girl" moment, and stop the main couple from falling in love at first sight or something along those lines.

But now… it felt like her mission had already failed before it even began.

Right in front of her, Izuku Midoriya was standing next to a short-haired brown girl, the two of them chatting awkwardly. Midoriya even looked… kinda bashful?

"Oi oi, something's seriously wrong with this script," Konata muttered. "The exam just started and the protagonist is already getting along with the heroine without any life-saving drama? I mean, sure, in shounen manga the heroine is usually just window dressing, but still… isn't this progressing a bit too fast?"

For a moment, she felt deeply frustrated.

U.A.'s entrance exam took place in a closed-off replica of an urban district, where various faux enemies would randomly appear. The robots were divided into three categories based on difficulty: one-point, two-point, and three-point models. The goal was simple: destroy robots, earn points, and rank accordingly.

The rules sounded simple enough.

"Yeah, simple my ass…"

She winced as a towering robot—easily twice her height—appeared right in front of her.

If one of these things landed a solid hit, even if you didn't die, you'd be hospitalized for sure. Seriously, who thought this was an acceptable way to select students?

Konata didn't bother checking on Midoriya anymore. She figured he was probably steamrolling the exam anyway. To avoid having all her targets stolen by him, she deliberately chose to move in a different direction. If the heroine hadn't shown up, she might have stuck close to him, but now that the girl was already in place, she saw no reason to play third wheel. Passing the exam came first—she didn't want to get eliminated and humiliate herself.

"Okay… if I stick to the standard Railgun…"

She stopped in her tracks and pulled a coin from her pocket, balancing it on her finger. If she remembered correctly, this robot was worth three points. Taking it down would make for a great opener.

But before she could fire, a laser beam shot past her from the side, hitting the robot dead-on and reducing it to scrap metal.

…What the hell!?

The kill had been stolen right in front of her eyes. Her face darkened instantly. She turned, only to catch a glimpse of a blond boy with a cocky grin making a quick getaway.

"I remember your face, you little—! Just you wait!"

Time was tight. There were only ten minutes in total. Even if she was seething, she didn't have the luxury to waste time. She had to smile through the pain and focus on the task at hand.

"No, this won't do… With so many competitors and so few targets, if I keep getting my kills stolen, I'm seriously gonna fail. The true Railgun takes six seconds to charge, so forget that. I'll stick to the basic Railgun. If needed, I'll unleash Iron Sand Storm or even pop my ultimate. There's no way anyone can out-snipe me!"

Three minutes later, Konata's total score: one point.

As it turned out, kill-stealing wasn't as easy as she thought.

"..."

Speechless, Konata made her way to an empty crossroad and summoned her Iron Sand Storm. Black metallic particles seeped from the ground, swirling into a dense, fog-like mass, rotating slowly under the influence of electromagnetic force.

"Lasts about eight seconds, huh… Still not enough of a spectacle."

After thinking for a moment, she raised her hand and fired a standard Railgun shot right into the swirling mass.

"Two minutes left!"

Meanwhile, in the faculty room, U.A.'s teachers were watching the exam through surveillance feeds.

"Midoriya-shounen…"

All Might's hands clenched into fists as he watched the anxious expression on Midoriya's face.

He had passed ONE FOR ALL to Midoriya that very morning. But he knew better than anyone that the boy couldn't use its power yet. Contrary to Konata's assumptions, Midoriya wasn't dominating the battlefield at all—his score was still zero.

While All Might worried for Midoriya, his attention was also drawn to another figure on the screen: Tokikono Konata.

Her situation was puzzling. The number of faux enemies drawn to the commotion she caused had already surpassed twenty, reaching dangerously high levels. Yet she showed no signs of stopping, skillfully using her strange electricity-based quirk to hold her ground.

Just in case, one of the teachers had already been dispatched to intervene if necessary.

"A powerful Quirk indeed… So this is the so-called 'Fantasy' Quirk?"

U.A. High's principal—a white mouse in a tailored suit—sipped tea as he commented.

"If she truly has the ability to instantly wipe out all those faux enemies, U.A. will gain quite a promising student this year."

"Not yet," a low male voice interrupted. "Their true value will depend on what happens next—"

As he spoke, his hand pressed down firmly on a large red button.
