Chapter 18: Chapter 18: I Definitely Got the Wrong Script
"Ah…?"
Konata stared blankly at Aizawa Shouta, whose face was, for the first time, visibly angry. She was clearly flustered and didn't know what to do.
Although she wasn't sure why her Quirk had suddenly stopped working, it didn't take much to guess it had something to do with him.
"Don't bother checking—it was me. I erased your Quirk."
Aizawa walked over, cold-faced, and took the softball from Konata's hand.
"You can't control your Quirk at all, can you? I don't know exactly what your 'Fantasy' Quirk entails, but a Quirk that can so casually kill its user simply shouldn't exist. Are you treating your life like some kind of joke?"
"Uh… that's kind of an exaggeration…"
Konata scratched her cheek awkwardly and averted her gaze—only for her eyes to land on Midoriya Izuku standing in the crowd.
"Sure, using the Railgun would shock me a bit, but I can totally control the power. As long as I don't use the final Railgun version, the earlier stages like Electromagnetic Shot and True Railgun are safe. There's no way I'd kill myself accidentally…"
"Is that so? Then what do you usually use as the medium for that move?"
"Uh… arcade tokens."
Konata dug into her pocket and pulled out a few pre-prepared game tokens.
"How far can you fire your Railgun using these tokens?"
Aizawa examined the tokens casually as he asked.
"About fifty meters…? If the token is high-quality, maybe up to a hundred."
"And how much bigger is a softball compared to one of these tokens?"
"…"
Konata fell silent.
"You can't even properly use your Quirk yet. All you're doing is activating it—basic control and modulation are still beyond you. Your so-called Railgun uses the magnetic field generated by an air rail to accelerate the coin. That requires an absurdly strong electrical current—something you seem able to generate as easily as breathing. But the softball is more than ten times larger than your usual medium. Even so, you were about to fire a Railgun with it without hesitation. Sure, that Quirk is immensely powerful… but you can't wield it properly. If I'd let you fire it just now, the blast might have destroyed the entire field—but you'd also have been caught in the explosion and obliterated."
Casually tossing the game token back to her, Aizawa reverted to his usual sleepy tone. His gaze swept across the still-buzzing Class A before he continued:
"Looks like this is a good chance to clear out the problem students… Midoriya Izuku, step forward."
"Y-Yes!!"
Midoriya was completely caught off guard. He nervously stepped out in front.
"You're just like Konata—unable to control your Quirk. I've seen the footage. You only had the strength for one attack, then you were incapacitated. That entrance exam really lacked proper assessment… How could people like you two, who can't even handle your own Quirks, get into U.A. and end up in Class A? People who can't control their Quirks cannot become heroes."
Still wearing his perpetually sleepy expression, Aizawa spoke in the calm tone of someone stating an obvious fact.
"Here's the deal: the Quirk Proficiency Test has eight events. At the end, the student who ranks last overall will be considered talentless—and will be expelled."
"Expelled???"
"But this is literally the first day of school!"
"Isn't this punishment way too harsh?!"
...
The class instantly erupted in panic at Aizawa's words.
"Midoriya-kun, what do you think? Looks like Aizawa-sensei isn't joking…" Konata leaned in and whispered.
"I… I'm not confident…"
Midoriya clenched his fists tightly, his voice filled with a strange determination.
"But I will definitely become a hero! Right now, all I can do is give it my all!!"
"…Why are you suddenly so fired up…"
Konata grumbled silently but smiled as she extended her hand to him.
"Then let's both do our best~"
Midoriya Izuku favorability +3
Satisfied after seeing the system notification, Konata cheerfully returned to the group.
Looks like the main quest isn't so hard after all… All I have to do is win over a guy who blushes just from holding hands with a girl…
Suddenly realizing something felt off, Konata fell into silent contemplation.
The Quirk Proficiency Test consisted of eight events: 50-meter dash, grip strength, standing long jump, repeated side-steps, softball throw, sit-ups, sit-and-reach, and an endurance run. Honestly, when she heard the lineup, Konata really wanted to complain—most of the events seemed normal, but what was with the repeated side-steps? Was that really necessary?
The first event was the 50-meter dash. Konata's running partner was none other than Aoyama Yuga—the guy who had stolen her monster kill during the entrance exam and earned a spot in her grudge notebook. The worst part? He seemed to have completely forgotten the whole thing and greeted her casually, as if nothing happened. Konata really wanted to punch him right in the face.
Her 50-meter dash: 8.1 seconds. Grip strength: 34kg. Standing long jump: 1.62 meters…
One test after another, Konata's initial confidence was completely shattered. In every single event, she was dead last. At this rate, there was no question—she was destined to come in last. So in the end, was she the one who would be expelled? Had she gotten the wrong protagonist script by mistake?
Watching what was clearly the main heroine—Uraraka Ochako—casually throw her softball into infinity using her Zero Gravity Quirk, Konata could only feel utterly crushed.
