Chapter 182: Chapter 181: Yugakure
Chapter 181: Yugakure
"This is absolutely science!"
Tonari couldn't help but marvel as he observed the Jashin cultist's body fully regenerating in the blink of an eye.
"It seems that with this guy's unique ability, I'll have to cut off all his limbs first. Ideally, I'd bring him back alive for some research." Tonari silently formulated his plan.
He drew the Circular Dance Blade from his waist once more, charging forward.
"Hahaha—come on! Lord Jashin is calling you!"
The Jashin cultist laughed madly, gripping his massive scythe as he charged at Tonari. The blade dragged along the ground, carving a deep trench in its wake.
Lightning armor flickered to life around Tonari's body. His footsteps quickened, and his speed surged. With a flash of movement, he disappeared from the cultist's sight, reappearing behind him.
The electrified blade sliced through the air, aiming straight for the arm holding the scythe.
Clang!
Sparks flew. The cultist, though lacking top-tier speed, reacted with animal-like reflexes, turning just in time to block Tonari's strike.
"No, this isn't nerve reflex—it's… animalistic instinct!"
Crack!
The cultist twisted his arm in an unnatural angle, wrenching his dislocated elbow backward to swing the scythe in a wide arc. Forced to retreat, Tonari frowned.
"First the Kaguya clan with their bone-hard arrogance, and now this guy flaunting his regeneration—does everyone think they can just run wild because their bodies are tough? It's really starting to tick me off."
Tonari couldn't help but mutter as he evaded the next attack. His mind replayed past encounters, including his battles in Kirigakure with Kaguya warriors who relied on their formidable bones.
"Well, I haven't exactly been sitting idle these past years…"
With a faint smile, Tonari darted forward once more.
Squelch!
The cultist attempted to block the strike, but this time, his reaction failed. Tonari's blade stabbed straight through his abdomen, emerging on the other side.
However, the wound meant nothing to the cultist. Laughing hysterically, he twisted his arm again to retaliate, but Tonari spun the blade horizontally, tearing through flesh as he pulled it free.
"Hahahaha—yes! That's it! This pain—it's what I crave! More! Give me more!"
"You disgusting freak! I hate perverts like you."
Tonari inwardly cursed as he leaped back. He couldn't confirm if this cultist had mastered the same Jashin techniques as Hidan, but he wasn't about to take any chances. Allowing the enemy to draw his blood would be a fatal mistake.
"Fine. I didn't want to use this, but since you insist—"
"Gate of Limit: Open!"
A low growl escaped his lips as his muscles bulged and a surge of energy erupted around him. Invisible currents swirled at his feet, lifting dust into the air.
Clang!
Tonari's blade clashed once again with the scythe. Sparks erupted, but this time, the sheer force of Tonari's strike sent the cultist skidding backward, his feet digging into the dirt to maintain balance.
"What…?"
Even the cultist's deranged mind faltered briefly. The force behind Tonari's blade was overwhelming.
In a fluid motion, Tonari spun his body, bringing his blade down in a devastating arc. The cultist's arm was severed cleanly, blood gushing from the wound.
The cultist didn't even flinch. "Hahaha—Lord Jashin will—"
Before he could finish, Tonari moved again. Another clean strike took his remaining arm, leaving the cultist flailing helplessly.
Without hesitation, Tonari struck at the cultist's knees, severing both legs.
Satisfied, Tonari sheathed his blade. The white aura surrounding him dissipated, and his muscles relaxed, returning to their normal state.
The cultist screamed in pain, his voice shrill and grating. Tonari ignored him, picking up the crimson scythe that had fallen to the ground.
He hefted the weapon, testing its weight. "Not bad. It feels pretty good."
Turning to the cultist, now reduced to a limbless state, Tonari's eyes gleamed with curiosity.
"What a perfect specimen for research…"
But then his gaze landed on the cultist's stumps. His pupils contracted as he noticed something alarming—small, tumor-like growths wriggling at the severed limbs, as if trying to regenerate.
"Hahahahaha—it's useless! Useless! With Lord Jashin's power, I can't be stopped!"
The cultist's fanatical eyes burned with unwavering belief, his body attempting to heal despite the grievous injuries.
"Fascinating…" Tonari's lips curled into a cold smile.
"Let's see how far your so-called 'Jashin power' can go."
He brought the scythe down repeatedly, cutting off the regenerating growths over and over.
The cultist's screams grew weaker, his body pale and lifeless, until finally, Tonari paused.
"If I push further, he'll die completely. That would waste his value as a research subject."
Taking a sealing scroll from his pouch, Tonari sealed the incapacitated cultist inside, ensuring his preservation for later study.
"This Jashin cult… there's more to it than meets the eye. And their 'god'… there's something oddly similar to Uzushio's Shinigami."
Dismissing the thought for now, Tonari dashed back toward his students.
The clearing was littered with corpses. Blood flowed freely, painting the ground in macabre shades of crimson.
Despite their exhaustion, the three students fought valiantly against the remaining cultists. Though injured and fatigued, their determination burned brightly.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Poof! Poof! Poof!
Three clones appeared beside Tonari, joining the fray. Against the combined force of Tonari and his clones, the remaining cultists fell like leaves in a storm.
When the battle finally ended, Tonari looked around. His students were battered but alive.
"Eat these," Tonari said, tossing them specially made ration pills. "They'll restore your chakra and physical strength quickly."
After ensuring the students and the Kawano father-daughter duo were stable, Tonari led the group toward Yugakure.
Upon crossing the border, the oppressive tension of the ninja world seemed to dissipate. The atmosphere of the Land of Hot Water was markedly different—peaceful and tranquil.
Finally, they reached the gates of Yugakure.
"Welcome to Yugakure," Tonari announced, his voice calm.
Though smaller and less developed than Konoha, Yugakure had its own charm, bustling with warmth and activity.
Handing over their mission paperwork, Tonari and his team were granted entry without issue.
Tonari's students, worn from the battle, were sent to enjoy the village's famed hot springs, while Tonari himself accompanied Kawano Taro to meet the village leader.
As the group parted, Tonari's expression grew cold, his mind already churning with thoughts of the mission ahead.
