The last thing I vividly remember was Jefferson asking me something about where Eddy would hide, and then my mind just went blank again. I fell into this deep unconsciousness, seemingly pulled into some massive body of incomprehensibly dark and deep water. For some reason, it felt, almost. . . comforting? I felt kind of relieved in a weird sense. I didn't have to worry about anything: not running from the government, not taking care of my friends, not my job or navigating social politics. I could just drift off. I don't really know how long I was out for, all I remember is groggily coming in and out of consciousness. I guess this is what happens when I overuse my powers? I'll have to be more careful in the future. The future. I've always hated that word, the very concept of it drives so many men to insanity. I've always tried to plan ahead, tried to be a good person, to stay on top. For what? I can't plan for everything, can I? After all, this whole powers incident proves that I can't account for every possible variable. But maybe, if I tried harder, or worked on more generalized plans, I could really, truly, genuinely plan for the unseen, the unheard of, the unthinkable. If I keep thinking like this, I would probably go insane like those men before me. If my line of work has taught me anything, it's that you shouldn't dwell on things you can't change.
Suddenly, I was ripped out of that sweet dream. I was pulled out of that warm, dark neverland into the harsh reality of, well reality. "Hey! You're awake!" Said a young woman with brown hair. I have no idea how I got to this point, but I think I'm in the passenger seat of her car. "I can't wait to show the rest of the town, it's like a dream come true!" she said giddily.
"I'm sorry, but who are–" My sentence was stopped as she took an abrupt turn, slamming me into the car door.
"I'm so sorry Mr. Tyler, I didn't mean to turn so sharply, I was just a little bit distracted. It won't happen again, I promise." She said hurriedly, like she was expecting some sort of punishment, or pleading a case.
"The sharp turn isn't what I'm concerned about. I have three questions for you. The first is: who are you? The second is: Why am I in your car? The third is: Where did the man who was with me go? Depending on your answers, this will change my opinion of you greatly, and how I end this car ride as long as our interaction." I decided the best way to obtain the information I need was to take a gamble. For some reason it seems like she respects me a good bit, and it seems like she cares about my well-being (or most likely comfort) more than a normal kidnapper should.
"Hmmm. . . For the answer to your first question, my name is Angelia, and it's a pleasure to meet you! For the second question, it's to take you to the mayor of course! And for the third, I'm not quite sure, but the last time I saw him, he was back at the motel. Does that answer all of your questions?" She replied earnestly.
"Not really, but that at least provides a summary. So why am I being taken to the mayor, and why didn't you wait until I woke up to take me here?" I asked, partly confused and partly annoyed.
"I think your first question is probably better for the mayor to answer, but I had to take you as soon as possible. If you left without the rest of the town knowing, we would have missed the chance of a lifetime. This was something that had to be done ASAP." she replied once again, almost immediately.
I could tell I wasn't going to get any answers, so I decided to just wait for this mayor of sorts to fill me in. The girl herself seemed mostly harmless, just a little bit odd. I think the old me probably would have immediately tried to jump out of the car, but I've seen so much in the past few days that this just seemed like a minor inconvenience. Plus my limbs felt like lead. I'm not sure I would have survived a jump being as tired as I am.
