Chapter 70: A Guild
AN: Hyung-nim means something akin to Sir.
The soft chime of the bell above the café door rang as Po and Jin-woo stepped inside. The scent of freshly brewed coffee and pastries filled the air, blending with the quiet murmur of customers enjoying their morning meals. The café, Pene—or whatever it was called—was cozy, with warm lighting and polished wooden furniture.
Po didn't care much for the aesthetics. He was more annoyed that he had to wear "normal" clothes. No emperor's robes, no flowing chi-infused garments—just a simple black shirt, jeans, and sneakers. It felt… wrong. Unnatural. Jin-woo, on the other hand, wore his usual dark attire, looking like he belonged in the modern world.
At a corner booth sat Yoo Jinho, the young man practically bouncing in his seat. His enthusiasm was almost contagious, his bright eyes lighting up as he waved them over.
"Hyung-nims! Over here!"
Po and Jin-woo exchanged a glance before walking over and sliding into the seats opposite him.
"Alright, Jinho," Jin-woo said, leaning back. "You called us here. What's up?"
Jinho cleared his throat, suddenly looking very serious. "I have a proposal for you two."
Po raised an eyebrow. "A marriage proposal? Sorry, kid, but I've got two wives already."
Jinho nearly choked on his coffee. "N-No! I mean—ugh, just listen!" He took a deep breath. "I want to create a Hunters Guild."
Silence.
Jin-woo sighed. "Jinho, we're not exactly 'guild' material."
Po crossed his arms. "I don't like working with too many people. They get in my way."
"But listen! I'll be the guild leader, you two can just do whatever you want!" Jinho argued.
Po looked unimpressed. "What exactly do you bring to the table, Jinho?"
Jinho's chest puffed up with pride. "Money."
"…Fair."
Po couldn't argue with that. Money was important. But even so, joining a guild felt restrictive. He had no interest in being part of some structured organization, and Jin-woo seemed to share the sentiment.
Jin-woo shook his head. "Look, I get it. A guild would make things easier, but I don't like working with too many people either."
Jinho looked desperate. "Please! I know you don't like working with others, but think about the opportunities! With your strength and my funding, we could create the strongest guild in Korea—no, the world!"
Po snorted. "I am the strongest guild."
Jin-woo rolled his eyes. "Po…"
The panda-turned-human waved him off. "Look, kid. If I fight seriously, most people will just get in the way. Having a guild full of people weaker than us would be more of a burden than a benefit."
Jinho frowned. "Then why not make it a small, elite guild? Just the three of us, and maybe a few others. That way, we don't have to deal with weaklings."
Jin-woo considered it for a moment. "Still… I don't know."
Then Jinho hit them where it hurt.
"30 Billion Won, hyung-nim. Imagine how much more money you could make. Jin-woo, you could take care of your mom and sister without worrying about anything. And Po… well, I don't know what you need money for, but I bet you'll find a good use for it."
Jin-woo sighed, rubbing his temples. "Damn it. He's got a point."
Po leaned back, thinking. He didn't need money, but… wealth did have its perks. Plus, if Jin-woo was convinced, it wouldn't hurt to be involved, even if only from the shadows.
Finally, Po smirked. "Fine. But I'm not officially joining. I'll be the ace in the shadows."
Jin-woo exhaled. "Yeah, same here. Jinho, you can have the title of leader, but we'll do things our way."
Jinho grinned, practically vibrating with excitement. "Deal!"
And just like that, the strongest guild in Korea was born.
