"You really don't have to do all of this," Thane said as Hermione dragged him into the dinning hall by the arm

"Would you just be quiet, I'm trying to do a good thing!" Hermione snapped back and Thane fell silent as he was forcefully led towards the first year's section of the Griffyindor table.

It didn't take long for them to be noticed and when they did all conversation came to a stop as a myriad of gazes stared at Hermione and Thane who wished he was anywhere else.

Clearing her throat Hermione got the table's attention, "Everyone this is Thane, he's going to be joining us for dinner. Thane, this is everyone and they're going to be on their best behavior tonight."

"Hermione you can't just invite people-" Ron started but was cut off by a sharp elbow jab from Lavender who was staring at Thane with an intense gaze as she muttered under her breath, "Shut up Wesley, don't ruin this for me."

Thane's eyebrows rose at the interaction and as he went to glance away he locked onto a familiar face who was staring at him as if she had seen a ghost, "Hello Padma."

"Hi, Thane," Padma replied sheepishly as more than a few glanced between her and Thane, "H-how are you doing?"

"Really, that's the best you could think of?" Lavender asked as she leaned in only to receive a harsh glare from her roommate.

Rolling her eyes Hermione let out a sigh, "Please ignore them, I swear they're not always like this."

Thane glanced back at Hermione and shrugged, "It's fine, it's better than them just staring at me. Can we sit down?"

"Of course," Hermione replied as her eyes lit up and a space was quickly made for the two of them with Thane sitting between Hermione and a red haired boy who had spoken up earlier.

"So Thane, how are things in the snake pit after putting Malfloy in his place," The redhead asked before Thane could even fix himself a plate.

"Who are you," Thane asked plainly as he started to serve himself, much to the amusement of everyone else who chuckled.

"Ron Weasley," The boy replied as he stretched out his hand for Thane to shake.

"You wouldn't happen to be part of the Ancient Weasley Family?" Thane asked as he continued to serve himself, his eyes never leaving the spread of food in front of him as he had skipped lunch to study in the library.

Ron frowned and dropped his hand, "Yeah and what about it?"

"Nothing I just came across the name a few times in my studies," Thane replied as he picked up another serving tray laden with slices of roasted chicken, "Your family is also rather interesting regarding its situation despite being one of the sacred twenty eight."

Ron's face turned bright red as he glared at Thane, "Those snakes really got to you didn't they? Just because they make you feel like shit doesn't mean you get to go around belittling everybody else."

"Ron!" Hermione exclaimed but Ron eye's never left Thane who glanced at him with an unreadable expression, "Have I done something to offend you?"

"Being a Slytherin is a good start," Ron spat as slid over distancing himself from Thane, "But I should have known you were no good after you one-upped Draco at a snake summoning contest of all things."

"You think because I'm a slytherin, I'm evil?" Thane asked as he took a bite of chicken.

"Oh, what did you not come across it in your studies?" Ron asked mockingly, "Everyone who gets placed into Slytherin is bound to become evil. Their symbol is a bloody snake for crying out loud."

At that second a soft hiss echoed through the air and a scaled emerald head peaked out from the collar of Thane's robes to glare at Ron, who yelped, nearly falling off the bench in surprise.

Everyone else reacted similarly though none to the same extent as Ron who sat up to regard Thane with a baleful glare as his ears turned bright red, "Y-you did that on purpose!"

"How would I have done that," Thane asked as he picked up a piece of chicken and fed it to Ingrid, "You can't blame Ingrid for being mad after you bad-mouthed her people."

A light chuckle passed around the table which only made Ron angrier, "Well it's the truth! There's nothing redeeming about them! It's no wonder you have one as a pet!"

An even louder hiss echoed through the air as Ingrid lunged forward and snapped at Ron only stopping a few inches short from sinking her fangs into his freckled cheeks.

Ron screamed and scrambled back as reached into his sleeve and pulled out a chipped and worn down wand with a few silver hairs sticking out of the tip.

Thane's eyes narrowed as Ron leveled his wand directly at Ingrid, and before he realized it nearly a month of training under Ellara activated at once. Thane's hand shot out grabbing Ron by the wrist and squeezing down hard enough to make him drop his wand that Thane snatched out of the air with his free hand.

The entire exchange happened in a split second leaving many blinking in shock as they tried to process what happened including Thane himself.

"Argh, my bloody arm!" Ron shouted in pain and Thane quickly let go of his death grip and dropped Ron's wand on the table, "What the hell did you do that for?!"

"You pulled a wand on me, and my familiar," Thane replied calmly undisturbed by Ron's pain, "Just be thankful I didn't use magic."

Ron glared at Thane with held back tears, "What you think I couldn't take you in a duel?"

Thane let out a sigh and he went to stand up, "I think it's best that I leave now."

"No," Hermione replied firmly as she placed her hand on Thane's arm, "You've done nothing wrong, it's Ron who needs to apologize."

"You're siding with him?" Ron shouted as he shot a glare Hermione's way.

"Calm down Ron," Harry muttered under his breath as he reached out to place a calming hand on his friend's shoulder only for Ron to rip away from Harry's touch, "You should be the one apologizing for bringing him to our table. Just because you want to spread your legs for him doesn't mean he can bend the rest of us over a barrel!"

The silence after Ron's outburst was almost deafening and Hermione's face flushed with righteous rage, "Get out."

"H-Hermione I didn't mean-"

"Get out!" Hermione shouted again with such raw emotion that Ron flinched back at the sound of it.

Closing his mouth Ron grabbed his wand off the table before quickly standing up and walking away without another word. Harry threw a conflicted look between Hermione and Ron before getting up and running after his friend but not before muttering a quick, "Sorry."

Hermione let out a shaky exhale as she glanced at Thane, "Sorry about them…I-I didn't know things would go like this."

"You're not responsible for the actions of others," Thane replied before he pushed away his plate and stood up, "I'm going to retire for the night, sorry for spoiling everyone's meal."

"Thane wait," Hermione called out but Thane turned around and left without another word.

That night Thane was looking forward to his lessons with the Fae and hearing their reactions to his altercation. But before he could lay down his bed a folded piece of paper suddenly appeared in the air in front of him disturbing the ambient mana in the room.

With a frown Thane reached out and grabbed the paper scanning for any hidden jinxes before gingerly unfolding the letter.

"Earlier you said I was lucky that you didn't use magic. If there's any truth to those words, come find me at Trophy Room. I'll show you why you don't make fun of a Weasley."

Closing the letter Thane let out a long sigh as he stood up from his bed, "Do you want to come along?"

A lone hiss echoed through the room and Ingrid poked her head out of the sheets, "No, I'm not going to kill him, the only reason I'm going is because Thalion would chew my ear off if I didn't."

Ingrid disappeared back underneath the covers and Thane let out a long sigh, "Guess I'm going by myself then."
