Chapter 81: Chapter 81: 3v1

"Huh, so this is the place… not a bad hotel."

Less than an hour after Xiang Nan and the others contacted the Kakin representative, three Nen‐user players appeared outside the hotel where they were staying.

Gazing at the relatively upscale accommodation, one of the players spoke with a mocking tone.

"The intel says there are three of them—one girl with the nickname 'LovesIceCream,' who's a Nen‐user. From what Druid Master told us, her skill level seems pretty average. The only concern is that she's apparently a member of that group from Heaven's Arena—what are they called? 'The Stars?'"

A short‐haired woman in sunglasses, neat hair, commented.

"Don't talk to me about that Druid Master. Next time I see him, I'm going to kill him."

"Forget about it, he got away, so be it."

Their squad had originally consisted of six players. Going up against that other side, mostly ordinary people, should have been easy. Indeed, that's exactly what happened at first.

After receiving intel from Kakin, they'd moved swiftly to hunt down the opposing players. But because of that "Druid Master," their own squad had lost three members in the process: two Nen‐users and one ordinary player.

Originally, they were supposed to wipe out all seven of the enemy's group. But Druid Master had claimed he would surrender and help them eliminate the remaining three players who had split off from the main group. The squad's leader, not wanting to raise any suspicions by prematurely killing off every one of the enemy players—since there'd be no one left to contact or report back—agreed to Druid Master's request.

No one expected that, while under captive watch, Druid Master would quietly use his Nen ability to poison three of their team members, then vanish without a trace… to this day, they still had no idea where he'd gone.

So of course, they hated his guts.

"That so‐called Heaven's Arena players' group, right…"

"Yeah, them."

"I've heard some things about them… just a bunch of trash. Becoming a Nen‐user doesn't necessarily require going to Heaven's Arena. Besides, we're one of the most elite squads in this round of the Game; nearly all our members are Nen‐users, and my rank is still Extinction 3… in terms of potential and talent, that bunch of losers can't compare. Even if we killed some of them, so what? Are they gonna get revenge or something?"

A male player sneered dismissively.

Hearing that, the short‐haired woman with sunglasses spoke coldly:

"They themselves aren't the issue; it's the people backing them… no matter how gifted you may be, if you face someone way above your rank, you'd be dead. The one behind that Heaven's Arena group is probably at least Extinction 6…"

"..."

"And now these three can still contact the Kakin royal family, which suggests they haven't raised suspicion. Looks like Druid Master, as their supposed leader, simply decided not to care what happens to these three. Our problem is we haven't found that Druid Master, so how do we account for failing to kill off all the opposing players to Kakin and thereby pass our own round?"

A goatee‐bearded middle‐aged man muttered gravely.

The three of them entered the hotel. They found themselves in a spacious lobby with a few people coming and going. Originally, they planned to take the elevator to the floor where their targets were.

Yet after scanning around briefly, they came to a halt.

The short‐haired woman removed her sunglasses, pulled out a few photos from her pocket, then looked over to a black sofa not far away.

On that sofa sat three people: two women and a man.

They precisely matched the faces in her photos—

IDs: "Seventeen," "LovesIceCream," and "SilentCloud."

This coincidental meeting took the woman slightly by surprise, for it seemed… Those three enemy players were purposely waiting for them here, apparently aware they would come.

Among them, the man in the windbreaker even waved at them.

"Oh? Looks like I made a bad assumption. Did Druid Master tip them off?"

The woman tossed aside the photos. She and her two companions approached the trio.

No need to dawdle now that they'd unexpectedly bumped into each other.

She let out a cold chuckle, flaring her Nen.

Her two teammates followed suit, likewise activating their Nen. Both sides were fewer than thirty meters apart. In the hotel lobby, other guests and staff had no inkling a lethal confrontation was about to erupt.

"Let's say three vs. one."

The atmosphere instantly turned ice‐cold.

Four distinct auras flared and intertwined.

Twenty meters… eighteen… fifteen…

"That's her."

The short‐haired woman stared at Manman, speaking icily.

"Let me do it?"

The man stuck out his tongue, eager to show off.

"Just by her aura alone, she doesn't look that strong… this kind of skill, yet daring to face us alone? Feels… suspicious. And this blatant," the goateed man frowned.

"Hurry up and finish her. I'm taking the kill."

The woman, apparently their leader, said.

Ten meters!

At the instant the distance between them shrank to ten meters, whoosh—the four vanished from their spots simultaneously.

Manman, having sensed danger a split second earlier, let her second personality awaken.

The woman squad leader lunged toward the only other Nen‐user in sight. The other two male teammates, meanwhile, zipped right past Manman, heading straight for Xiang Nan and SilentCloud, who were still seated on the sofa.

SilentCloud reflexively shut her eyes, already imagining her death.

Xiang Nan, on the other hand, remained perfectly composed.

Swoosh!

As the bearded man ignored Manman and dashed in for the kill, something unexpected happened—the girl known to be part of the Heaven's Arena group suddenly pulled out a dagger from beneath her skirt and, with terrifying speed, intercepted him. The fierce angle of that blade glint spelled imminent danger.

He'd assumed that, with their leader tying up the girl and his own approach from an advantageous angle, Manman wouldn't be able to interfere.

Yet here she was, attacking him first.

He had no choice but to leap back in alarm.

Even so, part of his goatee got sliced off.

Landing on the floor, he looked up, ready to counter, only to realize the girl had vanished and instead reappeared behind his companion.

"Watch out!"

He shouted.

At that moment, his comrade, who had lunged all the way to the front of the sofa, extended a hand to grab the man called Seventeen, who was still sitting. The latter showed no sign of moving, as if oblivious to the lethal threat in front of him.

Seeing he was about to claim the first kill, the male player's face still bore a smug grin.

In the very next second, a slice of silver flashed across his throat, cutting him short.

His eyes filled with disbelief as Manman lowered her blood‐stained blade, face blank and emotionless.

A severed head tumbled onto the floor.

Blood spattered onto Xiang Nan's clothes.

He remained calm, whereas the woman beside him screamed, flecked with the dead man's blood.

Several meters away, the short‐haired female and the goateed man stared aghast.

They saw that the girl's Nen had visibly changed from a moment before.

Her surroundings were shrouded in what looked like inky black fluid, giving off a bizarre, sinister impression that somehow evoked dread—like a ghost…

"Idiot!"

The female captain cursed under her breath.

That dead teammate had basically thrown his life away.

Even the bearded man's warning had come half a beat too late.

Then again, she couldn't fully blame him—nobody expected that this timid‐looking girl could so rapidly evade her own pounce, repel the goateed man, and, in that last instant, dash behind the other teammate for a lethal surprise strike.

"You've grown a lot… It looks like sparring with that strong Nen‐user in Heaven's Arena did you some good."

Xiang Nan beamed at Manman's second personality, praising her with a cheerful grin.
