Chapter 222: You are my master
Elias crumpled the official letter in his hand. A cold and humorless smile appeared on his lips.
"Final examination? How convenient."
The irony wasn't lost on him. While his main soul in Kaelen, basked in the Academy's favour, showered with resources and positioned as Freya's favoured disciple, his secondary soul, Elias Ashborn, was being thrown into the lion's den.
He had thought that he would have an easier time after he annihilated everyone else in his class. He didn't expect them to use this as an excuse to make him do the inevitable.
Out of all the places, it had to be the Ashborn Family territory. It was almost comical in his eyes, as he was being made to leave the Academy and enter his own Territory.
He was certain that this news was going to reach his dear step mother, who would make appropriate arrangements for him.
He leaned back in his chair, his fingers drumming on the armrest. Complaining was useless. This was the game, and he had to play it. Fortunately, he was entirely prepared for it.
"Freya thinks that she can sacrifice me. I wonder what her face would've been like if she knew that she used all her resources to strengthen me. When it's time to leave, we will switch once more."
His real body had already achieved the second evolution, becoming even stronger. Even though he could use the abilities from his main soul, even with his fragmented soul, it wasn't to the same extent. There were many abilities that were limited to his main body.
If he wanted to survive against Chronos, and face the girl who could kill him with a single glance, he needed all the strength he could gather. He couldn't send his partial soul hiding within a corpse for this.
He planned to switch identities once more, and take the place of Kaelen, while his main soul returned to bring Elias Ashborn.
Even if he died during this trip, his partial Soul could still inherit all his abilities and make him enter the path of revival. But at least he was going to have a chance to return alive.
If he simply sent the partial soul hiding within a corpse, it was an absolute certainty that he was going to die. His identity as Elias Ashborn was going to disappear forever, which he didn't want at this moment.
His thoughts turned to Lycorice. Their connection had grown stronger since the merger. He could feel her presence,l. She was stronger than any other Constellation that he had seen with the other students.
It was given to be the case since the other high tier fables had just evolved and were the lowest tier of a Constellation, but still her strength was impressive for him.
The thing that made him the most pleased was that her personality hadn't changed much towards him.
Even though she appeared to have become more clever, gaining more understanding of human emotions, especially the darker ones. But towards him, she was still the same girl.
Even after evolving, Lycorice didn't ask him to lead her back to the land of fables to meet the old fable who helped her. Elias had a feeling that it was because she had already guessed that he had lied to her.
With her evolved intelligence, it was highly unlikely for her to not notice the flaws in his story. Despite that, she didn't question him.
She realized that he lied to her because he didn't want her to die. Moreover, there was nothing that he could have done to help her in the past. It wasn't his fault that the old fable had died.
Elias was distracted in thoughts, as he tossed away the crushed piece of the invitation letter. The crushed paper rolled on the ground, until it was stopped by Lycorice's foot.
"Is there something troubling you, Master?" Lycorice asked, reaching out her hand to hand over the cup of tea that she prepared for him.
"I told you that you don't have to call me, Master. You can just call me by my name." Elias took a sip of tea, which was made from the materials taken from earth.
There was one thing that he liked the most about Lycorice's evolution. It was that she understood how horrible her cooking had been, so she didn't actually try to feed him anything bad again.
If anything, she tried to learn more from the recipe books, but she never made him taste any food.
Whenever he asked her about this, she just said that she would let him taste when she believed that she had succeeded in making something delicious, on the level of the food that Elias always brought out from his inventory to eat.
"How can that be?" Lycorice refused to accept the command. "I am your soul beast. You are certainly my master. I can't be disrespectful."
Elias had heard that the stronger Constellations were extremely arrogant, never respecting anyone.
Lycorice was so different to him that he even wondered if this was simply because he had saved her life, or was it because of some suppression that came from his contract with her?
He wanted to ask Astralious more about Lycorice's thoughts and her behaviour. Unfortunately, he didn't have Astralious with him.
Astralious was with his main body, enjoying all the luxuries of life, not having to worry about being killed every other day.
"I wonder how long he can enjoy that life. It's only a matter of time before I take him to this so-called examination. I can already imagine his complaints." Elias took another sip of the tea.
....
"Is this news reliable? That little beast is going to leave the Academy?!"
In the Ashborn Family's Grand Mansion, the news was promptly delivered. As the Master of the Mansion hadn't returned in a long time, the news was delivered straight to the Lady of the House.
She had been trying everything to influence the academy so she could save her only son Dreke. But every attempt from her had failed. This time, the Academy was a little too stubborn, and didn't allow her to harm Elias.
