Chapter 678 - The Crown Princess and the Stubborn Cat
Alora and Pawpaw vs SpeedGang.
"I'm warning you—if you keep this up, you'll bring doom upon yourselves!" SpeedGang shouted, his voice filled with desperation as Pawpaw relentlessly drained his health.
Something unexpected had happened—something so sudden no one had time to react. They found themselves within a domain inside another domain. SpeedGang's Domain had been completely enveloped by the Domain cast by Prince Stolas.
Through the translucent boundaries of the overlapping Domains, the chaos outside was visible. Countless demons surged through the area, swarming every corner. Among them, Knight Mercy, who had been working to destroy SpeedGang's Domain moments ago, was now locked in a fierce battle, desperately fighting off the horde.
"If you kill me, fine, sure, you'll get free! But then what's waiting for you out there? Haha! Stop it, you stupid cat!" SpeedGang sneered.
"I'm the Mighty Hell Lord!" Pawpaw roared. "I don't take orders from you, you asshole! You're the one who's dying today!"
"You're so damn stubborn!" SpeedGang snapped back. "Take a look outside, you fool! Look at their levels! You can't seriously believe you stand a chance against them!"
"Pawpaw, don't listen to him!" Alora yelled from the far side of the Domain. "Finish him now! We don't have time to waste. Mercy needs us! Those demons won't stop unless we help!"
Pawpaw's claws dug into the ground as he hesitated for just a moment, his eyes flicking between SpeedGang and Alora.
"What's it going to be, little cat?" he taunted. "Kill me and throw your lives away? Or stay here where you might actually survive? Think, you brainless furball!"
"Pawpaw, don't stop!" Alora cried out again. "We can't let him win!"
Suddenly, Mercy was hurled against the wall of the Domain, the force of the impact echoing through the space. He barely had a moment to catch his breath before a demon with razor-sharp, blade-like arms charged at him. His instincts took over as he moved with lightning speed, dodging just in time to evade the deadly swipes.
The tension inside and outside the Domain escalated.
Pawpaw paused his attack on SpeedGang, the cat glancing toward the chaos outside before turning back to SpeedGang, then to Alora, as if weighing his next move.
"Pawpaw, please," Alora called out. "We can't stay here any longer. Mercy's in danger!"
"That Knight of yours has a higher level than you," SpeedGang shot back. "If even he's struggling, do you seriously think you can handle those demons out there?"
"You shut up!" Pawpaw growled. "Only I and Princess Alora are allowed to speak here!"
"You useless idiot," SpeedGang retorted. "Do you really think a demon capable of casting a domain of this scale is just some run-of-the-mill low-ranking Named Demon? You've lost your mind!"
Alora grit her teeth, frustration etched on her face. Despite her obvious struggle, she forced herself to take a step forward, her determination blazing in her eyes as she closed the distance toward SpeedGang. It was clear she intended to finish this herself.
"Hah!" SpeedGang scoffed. "Even your beast seems to think staying here is the smarter option."
"I'll kill you myself," Alora hissed, her voice trembling. "Then we'll get out of here and face those demons."
"Stupid choice!" SpeedGang barked back.
"Princess…" Pawpaw muttered. "You're bleeding badly. Broken won't like it if he finds out about this."
"If we stay here, we'll die anyway, Pawpaw," Alora snapped.
"Ridiculous!" SpeedGang interjected. "My domain is impenetrable. Staying here is the only way to survive! If you leave, you're walking straight to your death!"
Princess Alora forced herself to keep moving toward SpeedGang, despite her injuries. Meanwhile, SpeedGang continued his relentless attempts to convince them to stay.
"Stop moving, stay here!" he barked.
Caught between them, Pawpaw stood still, clearly torn. His ears twitched in frustration as he struggled to make a decision.
"Shut up, SpeedGang! You're distracting my thinking!" Pawpaw shouted.
Outside the Domain, the battle was worsening. Mercy was visibly struggling, the growing number of demons overwhelming him as he fought to hold them back.
Suddenly, Pawpaw vanished in a blink, teleporting to Princess Alora's side. Before she could react, shadowy tendrils erupted around her, cocooning her in an instant. Only her head remained visible, leaving the rest of her completely immobilized.
"Pawpaw, you can't do this!" Alora protested. "Listen to me! Everyone outside needs me. We can't stay here!"
"Princess, I don't care about everyone else," Pawpaw replied flatly.
"You may not care, but I do!" Alora shot back. "I'm the Crown Princess. This is my kingdom!"
"Princess, Broken didn't ask me to save the kingdom," Pawpaw growled. "He asked me to save you. That's all that matters."
The shadowy tendrils tightened slightly, ensuring Alora couldn't make another move.
"If you keep pushing yourself, you'll end up in serious danger. And if that happens, I'll have failed my mission!" Pawpaw growled.
"Pawpaw, listen to me!" Alora pleaded. "There are people out there I need to protect. It's my duty to fight! Do you really admire someone who's a coward and runs from their responsibilities?"
"My mission is to protect you," Pawpaw replied firmly. "You should stay here."
"I'd rather die fighting out there than waste away in here doing nothing!" Alora shot back.
"No," Pawpaw said. "I won't let you die. Broken wouldn't let you die either!"
"If Broken were here," Alora argued, "he'd be out there fighting, not hiding in here like a coward!"
"Yes, but you're not Broken!" Pawpaw snapped. "If you die, that's it—you don't come back like he does! You're not expendable, Princess!"
As the argument between Pawpaw and Princess Alora escalated, SpeedGang sighed dramatically, reclining as if he had all the time in the world. He pulled out a small pitcher and calmly poured himself some tea into a waiting cup.
"See?" SpeedGang said with a smirk, taking a sip of his tea. "I told you. We're better off enjoying our time here."
The battle outside was growing worse by the second. Knight Mercy, now surrounded by an overwhelming number of demons, was visibly slowing down. His strikes, once precise and deadly, had lost their speed and power, each movement becoming more labored.
Inside, Alora's face was a mix of fury and desperation as she continued struggling against the shadow tendrils binding her. Her muffled shouts turned to growls of frustration as she fought to break free.
"Pawpaw, let me go!" she screamed, thrashing wildly.
But Pawpaw had reached his limit. Shadows slithered upward, sealing her mouth in silence. "Enough, Princess!"
Across from them, SpeedGang chuckled, leaning back as if watching an entertaining show.
"This is priceless," he muttered, taking another sip of his tea.
Then it happened.
Outside, Mercy's battered body was hurled to the ground. The demons swarmed him in an instant, relentless in their assault. Claws, blades, and fangs struck him repeatedly, their vicious attacks leaving no room for counterattacks.
It didn't last long.
The demons suddenly scattered, their movements chaotic. In the center of the carnage, Mercy's broken and bloodied body began to dissolve, fading into nothing.
"NOOO!!! MERCY!!!" Alora's scream pierced the air. Tears brimmed in her eyes as her clenched jaw trembled with rage. The shadow tendrils around her shuddered, struggling to contain her. Find adventures on empire
Pawpaw's expression hardened. With a swift motion, he summoned even more tendrils, reinforcing the bindings and creating a dome of shadows around them. The dome sealed almost entirely, leaving only the top open to let in light.
"I've made my decision," Pawpaw said. "This is my pride, my duty."
His expression darkened as he added, "If my decision is wrong, then I'll bear the consequences myself. I'll end my own life if I have to! My responsibility is to protect you, and unfortunately, this ridiculous Domain is the only way we can survive."
His tone carried such finality that even SpeedGang, merely raised an eyebrow and kept quiet. For once, he didn't laugh.
SpeedGang finally broke the silence, raising his glass with a sly smile. "Tea?"
"Shut up! I'm going to torture you next time!" Pawpaw snapped, glaring at him.
