Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 436: The Kidnapper, AK Single Shot, Kill the Driver First

Albania, Korcha District, inside a building two kilometers southwest of a certain bunker.

A Desert Lion Mercenary, missing two fingers on his right hand, named Bert, was shouting loudly into a communications device:

"Boss? Are you there? What's the situation on your end?"

As his words fell, there was no response from the device. Bert swallowed a lump of saliva, silent for a second, he dialed the communicator of other team members.

Still, no one answered.

"Fu-k!"

Seeing this, Bert's face instantly turned as dark as the bottom of a pot, put away the communicator, and he quickly stepped out of the room, saying to the three mercenaries in the hallway outside:

"Gents, it looks like the boss has probably failed the mission, we need to retreat ASAP!"

"What?"

"What did you say?"

Several mercenaries looked at each other in disbelief:

"Did another organization get involved?"

The Desert Lion mercenaries were very familiar with their boss and equipment. They had reviewed the enemy's information before the mission, and since they were planning an ambush, they never imagined the mission would fail.

Now that they couldn't contact the boss or any teammates, the only logical explanation they could think of was that they had been ambushed by someone else after they had attempted their surprise attack.

"I don't know the specifics, let's hurry up and retreat first, we'll talk about the rest later!"

As mercenaries, running away at the first sign of trouble is a basic skill.

Staying put and waiting for the enemy to come knocking, or rushing out to take revenge for the boss, Bert hadn't even thought about such plans – he wasn't one of those brainless guys.

"OK!"

Several mercenaries nodded repeatedly, and one of them pushed open the door behind him, gestured towards the situation in the room, and asked:

"What about them?"

In the room, it was indeed Mona and Caroline, tied up together with tape over their mouths, beside them lay the corpses of two members of the Voycek Mercenary Corps.

Not long after Luo An and Voycek had entered the bunker, the Desert Lion Mercenary Group had launched an ambush on this area.

It happened so suddenly, and with the others so numerous and powerful, those left guarding outside the bunker had no time to react and were completely wrapped up by the Desert Lion mercenaries.

Two members of the Voycek team were killed with shots to the head because the Desert Lion Mercenary Team Captain had received a phone call, so Mona and Caroline were left behind.

"Take them with us!"

Bert gestured with a wave of his hand to bring along Mona and Caroline, partly because he was right beside the boss when he took the call and heard the person on the phone specifically ask to keep the two of them.

Additionally, taking Mona and Caroline could potentially use them as hostages at a critical moment or even as shields from gunfire.

"Understood!"

Hearing the order, several mercenaries immediately walked into the room, untied the ropes from Mona and Caroline's legs, pointed guns at their heads, and said sternly:

"Get up! Follow us to the car!"

Mona, after all, was an FBI agent and had taken similar courses at the FBI training academy, so she wasn't very panicked. Unable to speak due to the tape, Mona glared fiercely at the mercenary beside her, then stood up protecting Caroline as they walked out.

Caroline's eyes were red and her body trembled; she was the most frightened one because she had never learned how to deal with being kidnapped in the first half of her life.

With several people pointing guns at her, and their gazes far from clean, Caroline, with her rich imagination and extensive knowledge, instantly recalled a host of messy stories and horrifying cases.

If it weren't for Mona constantly reassuring her by squeezing fingers, communicating in Morse code, Caroline felt she probably wouldn't have been able to hold on.

The two were pushed into the back seat of a large SUV, and as they watched two gunmen sit beside them to guard, Caroline, tied up behind her back, grabbed Mona's likewise bound hands and began desperately pressing on Mona's fingers, asking in Morse code:

"What do we do?"

"Where are they taking us?"

"How is Luo An?"

"Will Luo An come to save us?"

"..."

As the off-road vehicle began driving into the distance, Mona's heart was incredibly anxious, but she still suppressed the negative emotions within her and slowly pinched her fingers to reply to Caroline:

"Believe in Luo An, trust him."

Caroline's face turned deathly pale; she was not particularly devout in her religious beliefs before, only occasionally attending church services as a polite gesture with friends.

But now Caroline desperately wished God were real, her heart starting to furiously pray…

Meanwhile, on the roof of a house to the south side of the off-road vehicle's route, Luo An was holding an AK rifle, taking careful aim.

After killing the Desert Lion Mercenary Team Captain, Luo An immediately drank a bottle of painkiller and ran to the position where Mona and Caroline were previously held.

Since he still had bullets lodged in his body, he felt no pain, only a foreign sensation that slowed him down. Hence, Luo An pulled out a dagger and dug out the bullets from his left arm and lower leg.

The hemostatic potion he had taken earlier began to take effect; the wounds didn't heal but stopped bleeding. After reaching the holding position, according to the clues left by Mona and the traces of the Desert Lion Mercenaries, Luo An quickly located them.

Realizing that the enemy was about to drive away, Luo An hurriedly picked up the AK and took a shortcut to the side of the off-road vehicle's route, ready to intercept with his gun.

"Ladies, relax a bit, we won't do anything to you right now, because someone wants to see you."

Seeing the unstoppable terror in Caroline's eyes, Bert, sitting in the passenger seat, chuckled, turned around, and sized up the two women from head to toe.

Mona glared at Bert, while Caroline let out a whimper indicating she wanted to speak. Upon seeing this, Bert stretched out his hand to tear off the tape on Caroline's mouth, and after swallowing saliva, Caroline asked:

"Are you sure you won't hurt us?"

"Of course, we won't have a problem with money."

Bert spread his hands and before Caroline could breathe a sigh of relief, Bert suddenly grinned and said:

"However, if someone later says you are no longer needed, then the situation might not be the same."

Caroline had just slightly let her guard down and was once again terrified as Bert and a few mercenaries laughed loudly.

Bang!

Right at that moment, a gunshot suddenly rang out, and the next second, a hole appeared in the windshield of the off-road vehicle, and the grinning driver was shot in the forehead, his head sinking and smashing against the steering wheel.

"Fu-k!"

Everyone inside the off-road vehicle was startled, and Bert, who was in the passenger seat, hurriedly pushed away the dead driver to control the steering wheel.

Not far ahead was a civilian house, and Bert's reaction was a step too slow; the vehicle directly smashed through the house's wall and into the room, becoming buried under the collapsed house.

In the distance, Luo An smirked upon seeing this, grabbed the wall in front of him, and flipped over the roof to jump down.

"Shit!"

"Damnit!"

Bert and the other two mercenaries hurriedly crawled out from the dust, cursing under their breath. As they tried to grab Mona and Caroline, who refused to get out of the car, they raised their guns and shouted fiercely:

"Get down now! Or else I'll…"

Bang! Bang!

Before the mercenary could finish, two gunshots suddenly rang out, and both were struck in the head by bullets from afar.

"#*¥%…"

Bert, witnessing this, had his pupils shrink rapidly. He quickly ran to the other side of the off-road vehicle to avoid the bullets while pulling open the opposite door and forcefully dragging the screaming Caroline out of the car, using her as a shield, and bellowed loudly toward the distant dust:

"Come out! Come out! Throw your weapons out! Or I'll start shooting!"
