Chapter 487: Sudden Incident! Terrifying Death!
Near Hollywood, California First Republican Bank.
Due to a bank robbery occurring here, the small plaza area outside the high-rise building was surrounded by bystanders and news media workers.
Inside the bank's lobby, there were numerous bank employees who were coerced by robbers into becoming hostages, as well as customers who had just come to conduct their business since the bank opened.
Some LAPD officers, along with a few agents from the Special Investigation Team, were sitting with them on chairs, comforting them while asking for clues on the robbers such as their voices, language, skin color, and whether they had any scars or tattoos.
Continuing deeper into the bank's lobby, less than five meters to the right rear side, there was a very thick circular iron door.
The iron door was equipped with a time lock, fingerprint lock, and password lock; precautionary measures were extremely strict.
Stepping into the iron door, inside was a brightly lit corridor.
On the left side of the corridor, there was a room named the Vault responsible for temporarily storing cash, while on the right side, a room filled with metal cabinets of various sizes, named the Security Vault, responsible for storing various confidential customer requests.
At the end of the corridor on the right, there was a downward elevator that could only be activated by combining a password, fingerprint, and iris scan.
The elevator's downward end led to the bank's vault, which required several complex passwords to open the vault door.
This time, the robbers did not target the gold, the elevator remained intact and had not run, and the vault was safe and sound.
However, the rooms above that stored cash, the Vault, and the Security Vault full of cabinets were both looted.
In the center of the Vault, there was a metal stand used to store cash, and at this point, a large portion of the cash had already been lost.
In the Security Vault, a third of the metal cabinets were violently broken open, and the items inside were completely looted, leaving only a large pile of metal boxes the robbers did not want, along with some papers or notes of unknown content on the floor.
When the Special Investigation Team arrived at the bank, a bank manager, with several bank employees and the LAPD, were together tallying the specific losses of the two rooms.
Luo An originally planned to enter the Security Vault and Vault with the LAPD captain to quickly check for any useful clues, but just then, a white mist suddenly surged out from the Security Vault.
With a danger alert vibrating crazily like a motor in his mind, Luo An's face instantly changed, and he immediately pulled the LAPD captain next to him to retreat outside while shouting loudly:
"Everyone! Evacuate the bank immediately!"
The bank lobby was constantly filled with the low buzzing noise of people talking; Luo An's sudden shout startled everyone, the buzzing noise suddenly stopped, and after reacting, many people frowned, and the buzzing noise resumed:
"What?"
"Who is that person?"
"What did he just say?"
"He told us to leave."
"Why?"
Special Investigation Team members Winslow, Chenier, and Reesi instantly reacted; it was the first time they saw such an anxious expression on Luo An's face, so they quickly stood up, urging the people around them to leave while shouting:
"Everyone! Leave quickly!"
"Move! Leave quickly!"
The white mist spread at a significant speed, Luo An saw this scene, his pupils shrunk sharply, and without caring about the correctness of his language, he fiercely kicked a few LAPD officers and some female bank employees who were slow to react, yelling:
"Mother-Fu-ker! Everyone ** hurry the f*** up and get out!"
After shouting angrily, Luo An pushed the LAPD captain next to him, loudly commanding him to quickly lead people away from there, then he ran at high speed towards the nearby surveillance room.
Inside the monitoring room, Mona and Michelle and a bank employee were studying the computer handling surveillance work. Luo An's sudden intrusion scared the three of them.
Mona was just about to ask, but Luo An was no longer in a position to explain and loudly ordered the bank employee to evacuate immediately, then he grabbed Mona and Michelle, speeding with them towards the outside of the bank.
Although the LAPD captain did not understand what was happening, he quickly maintained order at the scene to have everyone leave quickly.
Just as Luo An was running out of the bank with Mona and Michelle, the female bank deputy manager he had kicked earlier ran over with an angry look, ready to slap Luo An:
"You damn FBI! Why did you just..."
"Get lost!"
Luo An couldn't be bothered to discuss with the female bank deputy manager, he simply pushed her aside, urging Mona and Michelle to call an ambulance quickly, then he ran back towards the bank lobby again.
In the bank lobby, there were several witnesses who saw the robber escape. Among them, a young woman was making a statement, holding her five-year-old daughter.
Winslow and Chenier ran outside with the mother and daughter, but were blocked by some people in front and ended up at the back of the crowd.
Just as the last few people were about to leave the bank lobby, the mother and daughter suddenly fell forward inexplicably, collapsing onto the ground. Winslow and Chenier hurried to help, when suddenly both felt their heads grow dizzy.
"Don't sleep!"
Reaching the bank entrance, Luo An swiftly helped support Winslow and Chenier, instructing two LAPD officers to pull them quickly out of the lobby, then scooped up the little girl and her mother, rapidly evacuating from the bank.
"What is going on over there?"
"What happened?"
"Why is everyone running outside?"
The outside crowd of spectators at the bank, seeing everyone suddenly running out of the doors, immediately began discussing in puzzled low voices.
Some media workers, witnessing Luo An slap a female bank employee to the ground, instantly lit up with excitement.
Many of these media workers were aware of Luo An's identity. The scene of the female bank employee collapsing ignited a frenzy of photography and filming; the headline for the instant news was quickly decided.
But before these onlookers could finish taking pictures, something more terrifying unfolded before them:
They saw three LAPD officers and bank employees who were last to exit the bank lobby suddenly roll their eyes back and fall to the ground, convulsing a few times before becoming still.
One male security guard closest to the bank entrance collapsed on the ground, clutching his neck with his left hand, reaching forward with his right hand as if trying to grab the ground to leave the lobby, and then, he stopped breathing.
The image of the security guard dying with a hideous expression, only ten centimeters from the bank's door, caused everyone outside to widen their eyes in puzzlement and fear, taking steps back:
"Oh-My-God!"
"What happened inside the bank?"
"What the heck is that?"
The LAPD officers and bank employees who had narrowly survived watched this scene, their backs instantly drenched in cold sweat.
The LAPD chief, his hairs standing on end, hurried over to Luo An, helping him escort the unconscious mother and daughter, and asked in immense fright:
"Group Leader Luo An! What the heck happened inside?"
Hearing the chief's question, everyone nearby turned their heads, directing their gaze towards Luo An, eager to know what had occurred.
Luo An did not answer the chief's question but first went over to check on Winslow and Chenier.
Seeing both had lapsed into unconsciousness, Luo An's expression immediately darkened.
"Luo An."
Mona walked over holding a phone, her face also looking grim, and whispered:
"The ambulance from the nearby hospital will arrive soon, I've already called the team supervisor."
"That's not enough."
Luo An shook his head, saying coldly:
"Keep calling, call the FBI's Bureau of Weapons of Mass Destruction under Homeland Security Department, the FBI Hazardous Materials Unit, the Federal CDC Los Angeles Branch, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency."
"OK."
Mona nodded vehemently, turning to pull Michelle aside to start making calls.
Beside them, Reesi, who had been performing chest compressions on Chenier and Winslow without any effect, looked up, her eyes red, biting her molar teeth as she asked:
"Luo An, what exactly is happening inside the bank lobby?"
At this moment, Luo An had calmed down, his face expressionless but his voice as chilling as ice, responding:
"It's likely poison gas."
