Chapter 160: Confidence is key

"Your sister?"

No one could understand what was happening, things were getting weirder and weirder with every second.

"I heard my sister's voice… TESSA! Is that you?" Lucas exclaimed after asking, his voice very curious but his face serious.

"Yes, Lucas… I am here." the whisper came again and fell in only Lucas's ears.

'The voice is just like Tessa…' Lucas thought.

The group stood in bewilderment, unable to comprehend what was transpiring. Lucas's reveal had added another layer of confusion to their already tense situation.

Whispers and strange occurrences seemed to be getting normal in this place, and now the voice claiming to be Lucas's sister only deepened the mystery.

"Lucas, are you sure?" Sarah's voice was cautious, her eyes locked onto Lucas's face as if searching for any signs of lunacy. Discover hidden stories at My Virtual Library Empire

Lucas's expression was a mixture of reluctance and determination. "I am sure, I heard her voice. It's just like Tessa's."

"You know that's not really her, right?" Jerry stated.

Lucas did not speak anything.

'I know she is fake, but why do I feel so driven toward this voice? What's happening to me?' Lucas questioned his decisions to this point.

Him getting all frozen out of nowhere just because he was scared, it seemed unrealistic coming from someone like him.

"Lucas… don't leave me alone… Lucas, come help me up, I am hurt… Lucas?" The whisper kept pestering and saying stuff to reign Lucas in the darkness.

But it seemed to get confused when Lucas not only did not say anything but he also just stared at the darkness with uncertainty and not desperation.

"Lucas… I said I am hurt, come here." The voice commanded in a domineering voice, the voice was the same as his sister, Tessa who Lucas knew was leisurely training in her territory.

"Lucas… Lucas… LUCAS… LUCAS… LUCAS! LUCAS!" The voice kept pestering and pestering until Lucas kept his hands on his ears to stop the torture.

"Make it stop!" Lucas shouted in order to ask for help, making him feel weird again, he was not one to ask for help at all.

"What is happening? I just don't understand!" John for the first time shouted in panic seeing Lucas in such a condition that he thought he would never see from someone like him.

The group was in disarray, their collective anxiety heightening as Lucas struggled to resist the pull of the mysterious voice. His reaction was unlike anything they had seen from him before, and the fact that the voice claimed to be his sister only made the situation more unsettling.

Sarah moved closer to Lucas, concern etched across her face. She reached out to touch his arm gently, hoping to offer some form of comfort. "Lucas, you need to focus. That voice... it's not real. We can't let it control you."

Lucas's hands remained clamped over his ears, his eyes clenched shut as if he were trying to block out the voice entirely. The whispers seemed to repeat in his mind, a relentless assault that chipped away at his resolve.

"Lucas, you're stronger than this," Sarah's voice was filled with conviction. "You've faced challenges before, and you've always found a way to overcome them."

"It won't work, Sarah." Bill said from the side, Sarah frowned and looked at the guy but she was surprised to see his eye glowing in the dark.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Sarah asked, her face threatening enough to just rip off Bill's arms with just her eyes.

Bill knew he couldn't dilly-dally further as Sarah's anger issues were well-known in the whole group. Having a nervous breakdown like before and another one of those big fireballs to get shot was going to be much more difficult to handle this time around.

"Lucas's status is showing something new… just below his skills, there is a debuff thing where he has 'Fear' and 'Halicullation' present, I think something is messing with Lucas's brain.

"What?" Sarah grilled her teeth while looking at Bill, her eyes telling him that she was not going to be nice any further.

Bill gulped nervously under Sarah's intense gaze but knew he had to explain himself fully.

"I mean, it looks like Lucas is under some kind of debuff effects."

Sarah's expression shifted from anger to concern as she processed Bill's words.

"So, you're saying this isn't just some external trick or illusion, but something affecting Lucas from within?" John asked from the side clearly ahead of Sarah when it came to comprehending things fast.

Bill nodded, his eyes still glowing faintly in the darkness. "Exactly. It's like something is exploiting his fears and making him believe things that aren't real. We need to find a way to break through these debuffs and snap him out of it."

Sarah turned her attention back to Lucas, her determination renewed. She gently placed her hand on Lucas's shoulder, trying to make him aware of her presence. "Lucas, listen to me. That voice you're hearing, it's not real. It's the dungeon trying to mess with your mind. You're stronger than this, and we're here for you."

Lucas's breathing was heavy, his struggle evident in the tension of his body.

He didn't seem to listen to anything that she said to him as an even more important mental battle was going on in his brain.

Lucas was not only disturbed front the voice that called out to him, he knew that it was fake and his sister was not actually there, but the actual disturbing thing was that he was trying to make up his mind to go into the darkness alone and find his sister.

Everything was a lie yet a part of him told Lucas that he just had to go, no questions asked,

SLAP!

Sarah had enough of the bullshit, she instinctively slapped Lucas at the back of his head in order to make him come to his senses again.

Slowly, Lucas began to lower his hands from his ears, though he still kept his eyes tightly shut.

Sarah's grip on his shoulder tightened, her voice firm. "Open your eyes, Lucas. Face whatever this is head-on."

With visible effort, Lucas's eyelids fluttered open, and he stared into Sarah's eyes. Her gaze was unwavering, filled with trust and support. As his eyes met hers, a spark of determination ignited within him.

Sarah leaned in closer, her voice gentle yet strong. "Remember who you are. Remember the battles you've fought and the challenges you've overcome. This is just another hurdle, and you won't let it break you."

"Hahaha… such words… she is just a sweet little thing… now what would happen if I break her piece by piece while you just stand and stare at me do so." The whisper became horse and horse until it was unbearable to what.

For some reason, this time, everyone heard these sentences coming from the pitch dark.

Barney could even make a figure in the dark and he felt like he was on to something alas it was all in his imagination and he partly knew that.

"I will rip everyone apart till there is nothing left but I won't kill, I will torture them while they beg for my mercy while you just keep looking at them suffer and beg you to help but… you won't… Do you know why?

Because you are weak!" The voice roared making some of them piss their pants a little but no one cared, there were some very serious things going on right now and Lucas didn't actually know how to handle it.

Lucas didn't respond and kept listening thinking that he was the only one who could hear the thing, he was glad that the effect he had when his sister's voice fell in his ears was now gone and he could think straight.

"I will do nothing you say, why don't you come from the dark in front of me, maybe I can show you how weak you are."

The others stood in a protective circle around Lucas, their presence a testament to their unwavering support.

Slowly, the effects of the debuffs began to weaken. The darkness that had clouded Lucas's mind started to recede, replaced by a sense of clarity and purpose. He could feel his heartbeat slowing, his breathing steadying.

"You are not affected by my presence? That is new and interesting…" The horse voice said and chuckled in a very soul-wrenching way that Lucas didn't like one bit.

"Show yourself, bitch." Lucas said again surprising the other with his confidence, Lucas himself didn't understand himself, and from where he was getting this confidence from.

"Hehehehehehahahahahahahahahahaha…!!!" The voice laughed very hard and kept laughing making the others and Lucas squint their eyes and hold their ears in discomfort, the voice seemed to make their ears feel prickly.

"Enough of this bullshit…" The voice said, each word seemed to be closer to them than before.

Lucas got ready and took his sword out, he was ready to fight anything at this point.
