Chapter 303: Movie Night (1)
In a world where technology is completely dependent on magic formulas, spells, and artistry, something such as the Movie Nights Aoni puts on could be considered extremely rare.
Even in big cities, and not entirely because the cost of doing so could be extremely high if left unchecked.
Movie projectors, televisions, and even radios were nonexistent on Genovia, yet there were always ways around these issues.
Projection Crystals, for example, were originally meant to be used like a personal recording device, where something can be displayed through magically manifested holograms.
However, the downside of these is 1) theyre extremely expensive due to scarcity, and 2) they drain A LOT of energia to power.
Hell, even Aoni and Archie, with their combined bank account and cyber sleuthing, could only locate five Projection Crystals, and they'd paid out the ass for them, with each carrying a price tag of 2 billion Crypto Dollars.
They were the kind of artifact that people in Genovia could only dream about using, yet through the power of MONEY, these little cellphone-sized blocks of magic rock were being put to full use solely because of Aoni's deep pockets filled with Energia Crystals.
A tool for the rich to use for showing off was being sent back and forth through the flume so that the Thurstons would get to see Aoni's summons, and one day, inspiration struck the lad.
What if he got Archie to record a bunch of high-resolution, wide-screen episodes of Anime, and he could create a device to modify the artifact so that the image would be displayed in 2D and transposed onto a wall or something?
Simple in theory, yet hard to execute.
Three months Genovia time—that's how long it took Aoni to craft something that worked as he wanted it to. Yet once he did, it was an instant hit with Glacia, then Nyria, then Blixt, and eventually, every child or youngling in his Territory would come begging to watch the moving pictures.
From there, Charlotte took over things. She would corral all the kids into one room, set up a giant slumber party, where the main attraction was snacks and movies, and BOOM Movie Night was born.
The only problem was, where to do it? With the village's population growing steadily, the guest room soon became too small, and even Aoni's master bedroom was outgrown.
The backyard was a good idea, but having spent a good amount of time sleeping in comfortable beds inside nice homes, most of the kids weren't really acclimated to sleeping on the ground. So, the decision was made to move all the furniture in the Manor's largest room and set up the space like a comfy party room.
The ornate carpets were replaced with a giant wrestling mat…yep, a wrestling mat—but hey, it's four inches thick, cushy, and comfortable as a bed.
Atop the mat was a specially crafted bed sheet, and lastly, the kids would bring their own pillows and sleeping bags.
Everyone would show up after dinner time, and parents could come and act as chaperones if they wanted to.
As for the doggos, well, they were the hardest to control, not because they were hyper or disobedient—no, they were all quite respectful when Aoni was around—but because they more than likely needed a bath before coming to Movie night, but that was a problem handled by Malys and Terri.

"Milord, the room has been organized, and your Projector is in place." After spending a couple of hours with his summons and dragging Clara back to the Manor, Aoni and his sisters were met at the door by Ellewen in casual clothes.
Since it was after work hours, she had already gone home and changed before coming back to ensure everything was ready for movie night.
"Great work, as always, Elle. Will you be joining us tonight, or is it date night?" Aoni said with a knowing smile that earned the elven woman a blush.
"My husband and I will be leaving Faelar in your care this evening."
"Umu, Glaci will be happy to have FaeFae with her," Char claimed with a smile.
"Lady Charlotte, if Faelar gets up to any mischief, as always, you have my permission to punish her accordingly."
"If anything, it's never Fae's fault," Aoni grumbled while thinking back to all the times Blixt or Glacia had dragged the little girl along into their misadventures."
"Don't worry, Elle, FaeFae is a good girl who never gets in trouble with us," Char added before hugging the Secretary/Maid and whispering a few comments into the elven woman's ears, turning her cheeks scarlet.
"LADY CHAR…. that's…that's so..so… naughty."
"Umu, have fun, gimmie another niece." With that said, Ellewen was sent on her way as Aoni went about setting up the projector, and his sisters went to set up the snacks.
---
"So, how does this contraption you built work, Aoni?" Sitting on the mat beside her brother, Clara asked as she munched obnoxiously on a bowl of popcorn.
"The projector is built using a complicated array of different arrays, formations, and circuits. It draws in ample amounts of Ambient Energia through these generator plates located here…here…here and here. Through them, a constant flow of power creates a net around the artifact that is drawn into the Projection crystal, activating it and sending out the image."
"From there, the image is redirected and formatted into a flattened two-dimensional display and beamed out through the telescopic lens onto the screen, creating a general-purpose display similar to a normal movie projector." While fiddling with the device and slotting in not one but two of his Projection Crystals, Aoni narrated how it all worked.
Yet when he finished and looked down at Clara, he could practically see steam billowing out of her ears as her brain overloaded.
"…"
"…"
"Wha?"
"Sigh…"
'Is this what it's like when you explain things to me…' Aoni thought, only to get an annoying response in return.
| The Host's level of understanding can be…iffy at best, so in a sense, the Host is worse to deal with oftentimes |
"Mirrors, magic formations, and a whole lot of Energia."
"See, why didn't you just say that in the first place, giving me all that techie mumbo jumbo, che? I bet only Archie would understand." Rolling her eyes, Clara went back to munching on her popcorn while Char appeared in the room carrying several different snack foods and placing them on a large fold-out table for anyone to grab some.
"I understand it."
"That's cause you're book smart, Char."
"Well, maybe if you actually READ books, you too could be considered book smart." Aoni snorted, causing Char to giggle and Clara to pout.
---
Around six p.m., the Duo-de-floof violently kicked open the front door to the Manor as they barreled into the building.
{'BROTHER WE ARE HOME!'}
"BATH, NOW! OR NO MOVIE NIGHT! YOU TOO BLIXT!" Without missing a beat, Aoni screamed upon seeing Glacia's matted and dirty fur, causing her to freeze in shock before spinning around and slinking away to the lake for a bath.
Due to their size, the days of fun bathtime had come and gone, and unless the two floofers learned a special technique or found a tool that allowed them to shrink, that was their only option moving forward.
"I'll go help them," Char said, placing down a stack of plastic cups. Then, Char changed into a pair of shorts and a T-shirt before jogging off with a toy or two for the floofs and some shampoo.
"I will to…" Clara started to say with a happy expression, only to end up being snatched off her feet by the collar by Aoni, who effortlessly tossed her back onto the mat.
"Like hell, you will. At least with Char there, those two knuckleheads will get cleaned up; if you go, all that happens is a chaotic splashy playtime. Sit here and behave." Aoni scolded before chopping Clara in the head when she tried to get up and leave anyway.
However, before he could say another word to keep his sister in the Manor, he received a message from Terri and Malys.
{'Milord, we are here with the younglings. All of them have been bathed and have semi-full bellies so that they won't be eating all the snacks alone.'}
"The puppies are here, so make your decision, stay or go," Without looking back to see her reaction, Aoni headed to the door and let the two she-wolves into the house with the dozen or so young wolves following obediently.
Or at least they were obedient until they saw Clara, then, well…puppy pile on the useless battle addict.
"AHHH SO FLUFFY!" Clara squealed while snatching up a small puppy and rubbing her face on its belly.
"…"
"Whatever, Malys, I assume you will be heading back to your den to meet with Kuro, while Terri, you're gonna stay?" Aoni asked while giving both the person-sized wolves some behind-the-ear scratches.
{'That was the plan, milord, but are you sure that…your sister will be able to keep the younglings in check?'} Malys questioned with eyes closed and enjoying the attention from her lord.
