Chapter 997: Chapter 996: Strict Family Rules

Life just went on in this lukewarm way.

That afternoon at three,

the obstetrics and gynecology department at Central Hospital was having its routine rounds report.

Wen Chi, who was leading the group, was dressed in a clean white coat, with a stethoscope casually draped around his neck and his hands tucked into his pockets. He had a tall and upright figure, a clear and handsome face with distinct features, and his gentle and refined temperament was turning heads. His stride was full of presence, and he was followed closely by a host of subordinate colleagues.

Everyone felt that Dr. Wen was especially stylish today, but also especially cold, so they all trembled with apprehension, fearing they would get scolded for any missteps.

“Bed one, has the post-cesarean patient’s temperature been taken?”

“It has, all is normal.”

“Bed two, who’s responsible? Did you help with the massage?”

Wen Chi immediately asked another question, pausing his steps slightly before looking back at the doctors behind him.

Everyone was on tenterhooks.

Which unlucky individual was it? Who wasn’t stepping forward promptly? Letting Dr. Wen stop in his tracks could have serious consequences.

Seeing Wen Chi with a stern face, the doctor responsible for bed two shakily raised a hand, then timidly responded, “It’s my responsibility. I was planning to arrange a massage for the patient after finishing the rounds.”

“Keep a constant eye out for any signs of inflammation in the patients. It’s best not to make me repeat the same thing three times.”

“Understood… understood,” the bed two doctor replied, patting his chest and taking a shaky breath.

Dr. Wen was always serious about his work, and right now, he was even stricter, causing everyone to dare not slouch.

Dr. Wen was really so standoffish. Just as the rumors said, cold and strict to an almost perverse degree.

“Dr. Wen, is he always like this?” The doctor from bed two had just been transferred to Wen Chi’s team and wasn’t very familiar with the situation yet.

He certainly looked the part, but was just too aloof – it was such a waste of his good looks.

The bed two doctor couldn’t help but whisper to the person next to him.

“Not always like this, and not to everyone. It seems a bit special today,” the person beside him said with a half-smile.

“What does that mean?” So, did it mean that today was just his own bad luck, taking the fall?

The person next to him just waved their hands, declining to explain further.

Song Ying came out of the elevator. She was there to find Wen Chi, having hesitated for a long time and not yet daring to confront the fact that he was married.

Only after all the doctors from the rounds had dispersed did she approach him.

Today, she was determined to get an answer, come what may.

She put on a smile, bracing herself, as she walked up to Wen Chi, lifting her hand and tucking her bangs behind her ear with slender fingers.

“Wen Chi, are you free tonight? There’s a new Chinese restaurant opened across from the hospital, I’ve heard the food is quite good. Would you like to try it out?”

No one knew how much courage she had mustered to say those words. After all, it’s not easy for a girl.

Wen Chi frowned slightly, “I’m sorry, house rules are strict, I can’t stay out after work.”

“I see…” Instantly, Song Ying’s face turned somewhat pale, feeling overwhelmed and embarrassed by her first invitation being rejected.

“That’s too bad, maybe next time,” Song Ying said, giving herself a step down.

“Sure, next time invite Gao Jie as well,” Wen Chi said, not wishing to embarrass the young woman.

However, he could not give her false hope either. After Gao Jie mentioned that she had feelings for him, whether true or not, he had to nip it in the bud, to prevent any chance of it taking root.

He was a married man, and at the moment his household was happy and harmonious; he certainly didn’t want to add to his troubles.
