Let's play ball

Liberty carefully studied the letter in her hand, "Yep...I am going to college alright", she said after reading it for the 5th time. Overwhelmed with disbelief, she slowly placed the letter on the double bed that she shared with her sister and began pacing back and forth. This was indeed the best news she's heard in a long time, but should she be excited? Her sister just began college, and she is going to need her now more than ever.

"What was Stella thinking?!", she muttered with a hint of annoyance, "This is an important time for her...and why didn't she tell me that she was applying-", then it hit her, there was a time when she suddenly seemed inquisitive, she facepalmed herself, "That sneaky child...this is why she was asking all those weird questions! For this application!", she slouched on the bed in utter defeat, "What am I going to do with that child?"

Meanwhile, the college hall was erupting in chaos after Jason's welcome speech and everyone was starting to disperse, "I didn't know he was an alumnus of this college", chimed Jenny, "Ma'am, blink!", she snapped her fingers at Stella who was still in awe of the gorgeous man in the podium.

She suddenly hung tight to her bag, with a look of determination, she turned to Jenny, "You know Jenny, I am going to talk to him today. I can't miss this opportunity", she clawed herself through the thick crowd, panting heavily, "Excuse me, I am sorry....may I pass?". She pushed her way out until her head bumped into a hard chest, "Ouch!", she brushed her forehead, "I am so sorry...I was just rushing t-", she lifted her head directly to his green eyes instantly losing herself into them, "--to Jason....oh my word, your eyes!".

"Oh...my eyes...I get that a lot", he chuckled seeing the reaction of the young woman leaning on his hand, "I think you can let me go now, everyone is staring". In that instant, Stella was snapped back to her senses and her entire face turned red upon realizing her action.

"I am s-s-so so sorry...I was j-"

"Looking for me...yeah you said, let's go talk outside", and with that, he held her hand and dragged her through the crowd to his blue sports car. Without waiting for her permission, he began driving and her eyes lit in panic, "Where are you taking me?? Not that I mind but I have a class."

"Don't worry, we are there. There were too many eyes there...", he parked the car at an empty parking lot, "You said you wanted to talk to me..."

Once again, her face turned plum red, "Uhm...I am not sure if you remember me...but we met-"

He nonchalantly cut her off, "Yeah, I remember you... two years ago, Chandler sports ground...coffee...my new sneakers...and now that I think about it, you never did pay me back for the coffee...despite the huge favour I did you."

She sighed in relief, 'at least he remembers me'. She gently brushed her hair behind her ear, "I am so sorry...but I knew getting an interview with you would have been the coolest thing in the history of our school's paper and I was right. Back then I had a family emergency. I can repay you now if you drink cheap coffee that is?"

He let out a soft laugh, "Forget it....what is it that you wanted? Another intervi-"

"Your contact numbers.", she reached her phone out to him,

"You are brave...", he said taken aback,

"I guess I am...and how else am I supposed to buy you coffee if I can't get ahold of you?"

"Oh! really? Is that it? So you rushed through the crowd just for my numbers??"

"Yeah...why not?", she smiled beautifully, "she lowered her hand back, without hiding her intentions and affection, she blushed, "I couldn't ask back then, but I think I can now". 

He's been in many situations before, but this was the first time he felt intrigued, out of curiosity, he probed, "How interesting...how old are you?"

She sighed, "I am 18...turning 19 in 6 months...", her phone suddenly buzzed and she panicked upon seeing Jenny's name, "Look, I really have to go to class."

Without saying a word, Jason turned the car around and drove back to the campus, and in a split second, they had arrived. Feeling disappointed and certain that Jason just rejected her, she turned to him, "I am sorry for ambushing you like that...I am sure you find me weird. Forg-"

He cut her off, "Your name was Stella Black right?", she nodded enthusiastically, "Here", he gave her his card shocking her. Amused by her reaction, he chuckled, "Please close your mouth and leave my car already, you are drooling over everything".

She snapped back to her senses. She couldn't believe it. She finally got Jason's number.

She excitedly ran back to class, she couldn't wait to tell Jenny everything. Thankfully the class was delayed because the lecturer was late. 

Once again, she couldn't move freely because the class was packed to the rim, with some students sitting on the aisle, 'This class must be famous', she thought as she scoured through the crowd and met Jenny's wave, she had saved her a seat and she smiled gratefully, "Thank you, Jen. Why is it so packed?"

With a serious face, Jenny folded her arms to her chest, "Never mind that... where did you disappear to? The whole college saw you disappear with Jason, where did you g-"

"Okay everyone, settle down...class is officially in session.", a familiar voice suddenly echoed from the front.

At the same time, both girls gasped in shock, "Oh my God!"
