Chapter 23: Chill Life Midst Chaos, old man's dogeza.
The black car turned off its engine, and two people got out from the back seat.
Ren looked at an ordinary-looking Japanese two-story house. Honestly, it looked like any other home where a regular Japanese family would live.
Utaha, standing beside him, saw him inspect her home.
"Ren-kun, as I said, I am just an ordinary girl."
Her words brought him out of his musing about the disparity between his current life and his previous.
"Huh? No, no, I think your house is homely," Ren shook his head, a quick flash of sadness flashed in his eyes, and just as quickly it disappeared, "During summer we might visit our main house in Kyoto, it is slightly less than our current one here, but the much larger garden and my mom's koi pond is worth seeing."
With that, he brought his hand around Utaha's shoulder, bringing them closer, and they stood there for a couple of minutes, watching her ordinary-looking house.
Just as Ren was telling her that he should head back.
"Utaha? My my~ Utaha-chan, and who this young gentleman might be?" an excited voice came beside them from the sidewalk.
Ren, not recognizing the voice, turned his head sideways.
There stood an older pair, a lady very similar to Utaha in appearance, but older, and next to her, a man with slightly greying hair and thick black rimmed glasses.
Utaha leaned from behind Ren's body to look at who had just called her.
"Eh~? Mom? Dad? Are you not usually at home by this time?"
As Utaha's parents came closer, Mrs Kasumigaoka looked at Utaha, "Yes, but your dad invited me to have dinner at a new restaurant that opened nearby, so we just came back from there, but besides."
Utaha's mother came even closer to Ren and gave him a sudden, judging look from head to toe, bringing her gaze back to his head, she stared at his face for another five seconds.
Her mother looked back at Utaha, and with a huge smile, nodded, "Good job, my daughter, you have a good taste in men!"
Ren standing there, not knowing what you usually should do in this situation, "Errrr~"
Utaha finally realised what she was talking about, "M-mom, stop that!!!" she said, slightly embarrassed.
Mr Kasumigaoka, being right next to his wife, was standing silently and watching Ren's figure. "You, Ren, my daughter's boyfriend?" in a slightly stiff manner, her dad asked him a question.
Ren nodded, "Hai~ I recently transferred to her school, and after spending some time together, we started dating." On instinct, he straightened his posture and replied in the manner he used to talk to his superiors in his past.
Mrs Kasumigaoka, watching him talk with her husband, turned to Utaha, "Did he walk you home, Utaha?"
"No, we drove in his family's car after going to my publishing house."
Her mother just then noticed a black car parked on the road right next to their house, and a person sitting in the driver's seat, "Is that man inside the car his parent?"
She was ready to start the whole family gathering right there.
Ren removed his eyes from stern stern-looking man, "Ah~, no, my parents went back to Kyoto at the start of this week, that's just our driver," catching on to her intentions.
"Well, next time, then, Utaha, why don't you invite this boy inside? Your aunt sent us some dried tea leaves not long ago."
Hearing her mother's words, at first Utaha hesitated, but then she remembered something, "Yes, perfect, we also wanted to discuss something with you, right, Ren?" she said and turned to Ren.
Ren, waking up from his weird stupor of being stared at by her father, quickly nodded, "Errr~ right, we might as well do it outright."
With a beaming smile, Mrs Kasumigaoka grabbed her husband's hand and dragged him inside their house.
Utaha turned to Ren, said, "Don't mind my father, he is a little shy with new people, while my mother was always an extroverted butterfly." With a tired sigh, she took Ren's hand and they entered her house behind her parents.
Inside the house, while Utaha's mother went inside the Kitchen to prepare tea and some light late evening snacks, in the living room sat Ren and Utaha, and opposite to them her father, who kept glancing between the two.
"Daughter, Ren, good looking, but school, priority," he finally started the conversation.
Utaha shook her head, "Dad, relax, Ren is a good person. Don't start playing these games."
Ren, weighing his options, decided to remain silent and let daughter conquer her dad.
Finally, Mr Kasumigaoka's face melted, "Daughter, think about the future, you just started working on your book."
He finished saying that, and Mrs Kasumigaoka entered the room where the trio were seated. She placed some light foods and drinks on the table in the middle.
"Hubby, our daughter turned 18 not long ago," she placed her hand over his. "More importantly, if you oppose their relationship, with Utaha's increasing income, she might as well leave our house and live all by herself."
"Wifey..." Mr Kasumigaoga held her hand, turned back to Ren, looking him straight in the eyes. "Ren, daughter, is our only child. If you don't treat her well, prepare for heaven's punishment."
Ren nodded, "Kasumigaoka-san, don't worry, Utaha is a beautiful soul, I will look after her."
"Fufufu~" Mrs Kasumigaoka listened to the interaction, chuckled.
Utaha, gathering her courage, said, "Mom, Dad, just as you said, I turned 18 last month, so I wanted to ask for your permission if I could try living together with Ren."
"Oh~" Mrs Kasumigaoka gasped, covered her mouth with a hand, and turned to her husband, ready to watch the show.
Utaha's father, hearing his daughter's request, stayed silent, tapping his foot on the floor.
Deciding on the line of questioning, to counter his daughter's request, he started.
"Daughter, Ren said, that his parents are away, that means you will live alone by yourself?" he continued, "Who will cook? You don't cook, can't wake up properly."
Utaha quickly countered his counter, "Maid! Ren has a maid living in the house. Their house is huge, so the staff have to visit it to look after it!"
Mr Kasumigaoka's expression darkened. He looked back at Ren, "You have a driver, luxury luxury-looking car, and a maid looking after your house, rich?" he finally came to a conclusion.
Ren, carefully listening to their conversation, honestly, this man was a literal copy of one of his managers from a previous life.
When he heard Mr Kasumigaoka ask him a question, caught a little off guard, he replied, "Ah~, Y-yes, Kasumigaoka-san, my family is in the media business."
"Media?" he remembered. He didn't know the boy's full name. "Your family name?"
Ren followed, "Hoshino, Hoshino Ren, Kasumigaoka-san."
Utaha's father continued, "Hoshino Ren, my daughter, Utaha, can your family afford to let her live with you? Does your family have a good income? Is your family's business stable?"
Ren lost in the barrage of questions, "Erm~ I don't think money is a problem at all, even if Utaha and I decide to start a family right away, we can afford pretty much a full package."
Quickly repeating questions in his head, he continued.
"Our family's business is pretty well known, so it's not hard to judge whether it is stable or not."
Seeing his confident demeanor as he said that, Mr. Kasumigaoka got curious, "What is the company called? I work in the same field, so I will know for sure."
Utaha just then remembered that long ago her father told her he worked, he worked in the subsidiary of the bigger company, the name was something shin?
Ren nodded, "Yes, my family name is Hoshino, so there is only one similar name, my grandfather started it in the early 60s, he named it HoshinEnt."
gasp
Looking between the two and watching as they exchanged, Mrs Kasumigaoka gasped and covered her mouth in surprise with both hands, and quickly turned to her husband.
As the name left Ren's mouth, Mr Kasumigaoka froze.
He suddenly stood up from his seat, came to the open area of the room.
In front of all three still seated people, he dropped to his knees, slamming his head against the floor, dogeza style.
"HOSHINOOO-SAMAAAA" he almost screamed, with his voice barely contained last moment to not bother neighbours.
"Wait, what?" Ren, eyes wide open, looked at Utaha.
"I don't know." Utaha shook her head, "Dad?" and looked back at her kneeling father.
Mrs Kasumigaoka, opening up her phone, took a couple of pictures.
Mr Kasumigaoka brought his upper body up, sitting with his back straight, both hands on his knees.
With determination, he looked at Ren, "Hoshino-sama, you have full responsibility for our daughter from this day forward. I am entrusting her future to you," he said with almost fanatic eyes.
"Call us if anything arises, just any problem with our daughter, and I will personally deal with her!!!" he once again slammed his head on the floor.
Utaha looked back at Ren, but Ren just as quickly turned to Mrs Kasumigaoka, who was silently laughing and taking pictures of her husband.
"Kasumigaoka-san, care to explain?"
"Fufufu~ Ren-kun, my husband, Utaha's father," she pointed at the kneeling figure.
"Has worked in one of your sister companies since forever ago."
"A few years ago, people from what turned out to be HoshinEnt came."
"After some kind of yearly evaluation, my husband was promoted, and skipping a couple of ranks within his company, he is now one of the few people who is in charge of that office."
Mr Kasumigaoka raised his head again, "Yes, Hoshino-sama, Hayasaka-dono, said that by approval from one of your family members, I was given a chance!"
Utaha suddenly exclaimed, "Hayasaka? As in Hayasaka Ai?"
"Yes, two Hayasakas are working for our family, one is Ai, who is mostly spending her time with me," Ren said to Utaha, and turned to look at her father, "The Person you might be talking about was Hayasaka Nao, she is my maid's mother."
Mrs Kasumigaoka laughed lightly, "Utaha, aren't you glad your boyfriend is like a destined prince, fufufu~"
Ren, standing up and coming closer to kneeling Mr Kasumigaoka, said, "Father, please, get up, we already got your blessing, so stand up." he helped him stand up, and seated him in his previous chair.
Mr Kasumigaoka kept looking at Ren with a now fanatic-like smile and stars in his eyes.
Ren, sitting back near Utaha, turned to her Mother, "Kasumigaoka-san, this all started because Utaha wanted to live together with me."
"I expressed that I would like to meet her parents first, and by chance, it happened sooner than we expected. With that, are you letting your daughter move in with me?"
Mrs Kasumigaoka shook her head, and with a slightly more serious expression, said, "Ren-kun, as Mother of my child, I can see when she is happy, and as long as she can be even happier with you two living together, I don't have any problems; that is the only condition from me."
Ren, getting the approval of both parents, gave them a bow, "Thank you, please take care of me in the future."
Utaha, with the approval of her parents, was ready to run up to her room and start packing, but Ren's hand stopped her.
"Work on your edits that you talked with Sonoko-san, today, and start packing tomorrow. I will ask Ai to come over and help you gather your stuff, okay?"
Utaha, realising that she indeed still had work to do, plopped back into her seat and nodded.
"Fine, just don't go back home yet, stay a bit more."
"Okay," Ren nodded, and leaning closer to Utaha, kissed her forehead.

"Ara~?" Mrs Kasumigaoka sneakily had taken a photo.
The four of them had spent a little more time talking about Utaha's and Ren's relationship, her mother's tea, their school grades, and his parents.
After 30 minutes, Ren finally said his goodbyes and left the Kasumigaoka household. Getting inside the car, the driver drove in the direction of his home.
