Life As Hikigaya Hachiman

Chapter 3: [3] Hachiman who is about to start exercising(Edited)

Having decided to earn money by writing light novels, Hachiman felt it was time to do some groundwork.

Switching on his phone, he searched for the titles of popular light novels from his past life that he remembered. Much to his disappointment, many of those novels had already been published in this world, leaving him with limited options.

"Huh? It seems this one hasn't been published yet!" After some searching, Hachiman suddenly stumbled upon a light novel that hadn't been adapted.

"Sword Art Online."

After double-checking, Hachiman confirmed that this particular light novel had yet to make its appearance in this world.

"Hmph, if that's the case, I'll ignite a two-sword style climax in this world – Starburst Airflow Slash!" Hachiman exclaimed gleefully.

With the novel idea in mind, Hachiman positioned himself in front of his vintage computer and embarked on his writing journey.

Thankfully, Hachiman possessed strong literary skills and had been a humanities student in his previous life. His writing abilities were solid. Additionally, he retained a clear memory of the original light novel, making the writing process relatively smooth.

After tidying up the novel's outline, he managed to churn out 2,000 words in a little over an hour. Back in his former life, this speed would have astonished even the most prolific of street writers.

Satisfied with his progress, Hachiman nodded as he observed the new writing module materialize on the virtual screen within his mind.

Taking a moment to stretch comfortably, he delved back into his writing, aiming to produce 10,000 words today.

Having penned down 10,000 words, Hachiman stood up and stretched. He was becoming adept at utilizing the writing module; he had learned that crafting 10,000 words could enhance his proficiency by 100 points.

Checking the time, he realized it was already past half-past five – time to start preparing dinner for Komachi.

Following the meal, Hachiman joined Komachi on the sofa to watch anime together. Komachi, at the age of 14, retained a keen interest in anime.

After the anime ended, it was already past eight o'clock. Hachiman got up and looked at Komachi. "It's getting late, Komachi. You're at an age where your body is still growing. It's time to wash up and go to sleep."

"Why are you so naggy, just like our parents?" Komachi retorted, grumbling as she stood up. Despite her complaints, she obediently headed to the bathroom to get ready for bed.

Hearing Komachi's complaints, Hachiman couldn't help but curl his lips in response. He thought to himself, If our parents find out that you're staying up this late, it'll probably be an issue, and I might end up taking the heat for it. My status in this family is certainly at the bottom. He considered it fortunate that they didn't have any pets, musing, If we did, I wouldn't be surprised if even the pet's status ended up higher than mine.

Once Komachi finished washing up, Hachiman followed suit and headed back to his room.

Back in his room, Hachiman settled in front of his computer once again, diving back into his burgeoning writing venture. Currently, he had just reached the 10,000-word mark. However, if he aimed to submit the work to an editor, he would need to complete at least the first volume, which was 100,000 words. That goal wasn't too far away.

After adding another 5,000 words to his project, he checked the time and realized it was past ten o'clock. Not wanting to stay up any longer, he powered off the computer and went to bed.

The night passed uneventfully.

Around seven o'clock in the morning, the alarm clock chimed, rousing Hachiman from his slumber. He groggily extended his hand to silence the alarm.

Swinging his legs over the side of the bed, Hachiman rose and ambled to the window. Pulling the curtains apart, he let the sunlight stream in, then opened the window. With a languid stretch, he stood before the window and gazed outside. The sky displayed a pristine shade of light blue, extending flawlessly across the expanse.

Weather could undoubtedly impact one's mood, and the unblemished sky lifted Hachiman's spirits.

As sunlight filtered through the window, a gentle breeze wafted in, carrying the scent of fresh grass and a delicate floral aroma.

Dressed and ready, Hachiman exited his room and made his way to the backyard, wooden sword in hand. A small open area provided ample room for practicing kendo.

Lacking knowledge of any proper kendo techniques, he began with simple swings of the wooden sword.

The first hundred swings were manageable, the next two hundred somewhat challenging yet still doable. He pushed through, reaching three hundred... four hundred... and finally five hundred swings.

After completing his regimen of 500 wooden sword swings, his arms grew too fatigued to lift. He shuffled back to the living room, arms hanging limply.

Observing the 100-point increase in proficiency on the panel and feeling the soreness in his lower arms, Hachiman let out an exasperated sigh. Earning these 100 points had proven to be quite an ordeal.

He reflected on the fact that his physical condition was to blame. Recalling correctly, during his first year of high school, he had been struck by Yukino's car, landing him in the hospital for a month after saving Yui's pet.

With this in mind, he resolved to incorporate jogging into his morning routine, aiming to bolster his physique before delving into kendo practice.

Gazing at the panel in my mind:

[Host: Hikigaya Hachiman]

[Age: 16 years old]

[Modules loaded: Cooking Lv1 (540/1000), Learning Lv1 (330/1000), Kendo Lv1 (310/1000), Writing Lv1 (290/1000)]

Seeing his kendo proficiency had now reached a third of the way, he felt that his efforts hadn't been in vain. Taking a brief rest on the sofa, he realized it was past eight o'clock – time to prepare breakfast for Komachi.

Following breakfast, Hachiman bid his farewell and retreated to his room to resume his writing. For now, he didn't intend to reveal his light novel-writing endeavor to Komachi; he could explain everything once the light novel was actually published.

Observing her Onii-chan retreat to his room, Komachi sighed softly. From her perspective, Hachiman's solitary habits were likely due to his lack of friends and his loneliness.

As she contemplated this, a new worry surfaced: Would Onii-chan ever find a girlfriend if he continued down this path?

If Hachiman were privy to Komachi's thoughts, he might likely jest,"Ah, my dear sister, your concerns are entirely unnecessary." He'd likely follow with a playful remark, highlighting that even in the original storyline, he managed to secure a girlfriend eventually.

In the midst of dinner with Komachi and a brief anime interlude, Hachiman continued his ceaseless typing within his room. Adding the 15,000 words he penned the previous day, his output had already crossed the 30,000-word threshold.

This rapid pace prompted Hachiman to half-seriously remark that he might just turn into a tentacle monster sooner or later.

After saving his work for the day, Hachiman felt relieved. Based on his current writing speed, he anticipated completing 100,000 words within about four or five days.

Checking the time, he decided against staying up late. Instead, he planned to wake up early the next morning for some exercise. Hachiman turned off his computer, switched off the lights, and drifted off to sleep.
